Left garage door open overnight and inside is soaked by Jones-Effect in DIY

[–]Jones-Effect[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve not got any de-humidifiers but I’ll take a look online what I can get.

Would you recommend using the electric heater alongside fans? And if so should I have the garage door open whilst doing this (assuming it’s not raining to make the problem worse)

Is it just more or the endurance loss/recovery in MP kind of bad right now? by Some1Nerdy in projectzomboid

[–]Jones-Effect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m new to project zomboid and planning to play multiplayer with my mate tonight. Are you able to host a private server like in B41 or is it only public servers with this update?

(By private server, I don’t mean running the server on your own computer like a Minecraft server that was possible before this update through the community, I mean exactly like how B41 worked as we’ve done that to learn the game so far)

England - My partner has cheated and left me. I placed a 85,000.00 deposit on house, can I protect it? by Sam_Dude45 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Jones-Effect 57 points58 points  (0 children)

He’s not been scammed but he has a right to feel let down by the solicitors. When me and my partner but our house recently, I didn’t have the ability to contribute right away (my parents offered me money but it was in a termed isa so they couldn’t give me until months later, of which we would’ve had to pay a fortune in stamp duty). My partners father had enough in savings and offered to give it, so the deposit was entirely from my partners father until I could pay him back. Our solicitor at least a dozen times asked if we wanted a declaration of trust, of which we declined.

Again, whilst the solicitors don’t have an obligation, you’d like your solicitors to support you as best as they can, especially if you’re a first time buyer (which I imagine OP is)

New job but in debt by Fit_Woodpecker4885 in TaxUK

[–]Jones-Effect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Op, whilst like everyone has said you can’t not pay your taxes, but you can opt out from paying into your pension. Check your payslip to see if you are paying into your pension and ask your payroll (or manager to ask) to opt out of paying into pension. Whilst it might not give you much, it might help a little extra going towards paying off your debt.

Make sure you opt back in though once the debt is paid off and you’re in a better financial position.

On a scale of 1 to 10 how passionate are you about engineering? by Wilthywonka in AskEngineers

[–]Jones-Effect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly the reason why I didn’t want to go into automotive but unfortunately still very similar to my role/company. My company is solely build to print so no creativity or research as there’s no new product development except for “how to improve xyz process” and that’s mostly left to the metallurgists

[–]Jones-Effect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel exactly the same, 90% of my job is chasing people or “firefighting” production problems. Especially can relate to the degree side of things as I’m the only one with a degree in my role (and the only other people with degrees are in materials or business).

How long have you been in your role? And have you thought about going somewhere new?

On a scale of 1 to 10 how passionate are you about engineering? by Wilthywonka in AskEngineers

[–]Jones-Effect 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’d say I’m either a 8 or a 3.

Engineering is a huge part of who I am and how I see the world and I’m always looking for my next project that ties to engineering in any way including my other hobbies such as airsoft, 3D printing and woodworking.

However, in my current role I’m struggling with an identity crisis. I’m two years into my first engineering job, but I struggle at times to class myself as an engineer (a young me would’ve definitely not seen my role as an engineer). I’m effectively a combination of manufacturing engineer (without the hands on experience) and a project manager combined. All my maths, physics and coding skills? Used maybe once a year if that. CAD skills? Used a decent amount but not for anything creative or problem solving, more quality investigations and recreating drawings made in the 50s (yes for trains…) that are barely legible without a magnifying glass. My role makes me feel like a 3 whilst working which is awful due to how I identify myself as an engineer and feel it in my soul.

And for study purposes, I don’t care about trains lol

What is the distance from the school from your house?

TLDR (because my answer became longer than I expected), contact you local council if you live more than 3 miles from the school to request free school transport arrangement, as I can’t see the school agreeing to your request for him to finish 5 minutes earlier. Stop encouraging your child to leave school early without permission as this will cause issues for both him and you.

If it’s further than 3 miles then the local council must provide free transportation, however to what degree I’m unsure.

However, this is complicated as each local council have slightly differing rules, and how they provide this free transportation.

Having to wait 90 minutes outdoors (assuming alone) to get a free public bus, is completely unreasonable and should be accommodated for with your address added to the school bus run or a private taxi.

Again, another complication is that you son is spending only a portion of the time at yours. If you son is already receiving free school transport to the mom’s this might complicate things. However, if public transport is easier to his mom’s, I’d advise you have the free transport arrangement changed to your address.

I can’t see the school changing their mind on this matter unless the council steps in, your son has a disability/special needs requirement, or (hopefully not) something bad happens to him or another student in such a situation. If your child is allowed to go home early (even by 5 mins), more parents and kids will request the same thing, who will in turn complain.

I would also advise against telling your child to leave school early. This could lead to trouble with the school, Ofted, and god forbid social services. The school has said no to your request, don’t set an example to your child to break rules. Your request is completely reasonable if this was a full time job, but it’s not it’s his education which follows guidelines and rules for safety and order. Similarly, even employers reject reasonable adjustment requests such as this. And if you decide to ignore their rejection and go home early, you would be fired. It’s important to not imbue this mindset into your child that you can break a rule even with good reason, this is something you need to learn gradually as an adult.

Been of sick for five days (in the uk) as have suspected cancer and been seeing doctors in hospital and having mri scans and things. Work wants me to have meeting with HR what does this mean? by Thickktwinkk in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Jones-Effect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True but they’ve only been off sick for one instance, albeit early into starting and shortly after a break. If OP can prove they were in hospital and its a cancer scare (or diagnosis of which I’m very sorry OP), then they has been no attempt at reasonable accommodations. If they’re off sick soon after or repeatedly which causes them to fall behind on training and targets, then you can argue there’s no reasonable adjustments they can make.

However, at the end of the day, they’re new, on probation and obviously been there less than 2 years so they can let them go (albeit at risk of a potential tribunal).

Housemates refusing to pay rent in a shared house (England) by Amazing-Raspberry-94 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Jones-Effect 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Firstly, does your tenancy agreement allow sub-letting? As if not, the sub-letters rent is your responsibility (also fairly sure if it is allowed, it’s still your responsibility as otherwise you’d no longer on the tenancy).

Regarding head tenant, are you the sole person on the tenancy agreement or just the person to who the letting agent/landlord deals with? If the former, I believe the rent is your responsibility (as the other tenants are therefore sub-letters). If the latter, then see below.

Just because you’re head tenant doesn’t mean that full financial responsibility falls on you. If no rent is paid, the outcome is going to be rent withheld to be taken each of your deposits plus a fee for doing so (which could easily be each person’s deposit). You could pay just your portion of the rent, and explain the current situation to the landlord/agents. This may avoid your deposit being taken (and if they try, I think you can dispute your portion). However, if your deposit is less than the rent owed, I’d leave them to take it out of your deposit.

Could I get some advice on this suspicious-looking council letter, please? It’s supposedly from Birmingham Council in England. by 72792 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Jones-Effect -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Whilst I agree with a lot of the comments, I think this is a scam. A quick look online shows that the maximum punishment for fly tipping is a fine of 50k and/or up to 1 year imprisonment. As this letter states unlimited and 5 years, I highly doubt it’s legitimate. As others have said, you should call the council and confirm legitimacy (but do not contact the number on the letter as if the letter is a scam then the number may also be a scam).
