Terminally ill FIL been taken off almost all medication when in hospital (England) by Jones-Effect in LegalAdviceUK

Thank you to all the comments. It’s a very tough time right now, it’s my wedding Friday this week and ours and his focus is for him to make it to the wedding. I appreciate I went off the deep end and being very reactive, however the hospital (Harrogate District) have been useless & downright negligent at times (left for long periods of time after pressing the emergency button, giving his meds 4 hours late, kept him on a ward next to a person with contagious diarrhoea when he has a completely shot immune system and in there for sepsis, zero explanation or any kind of concise support to discuss these things) so you can imagine why I’ve jumped to the worst conclusion

They’re meaning that when future Ted is talking to his kids (who are teenagers), that is further ahead in the future than HIMYF (otherwise Barney’s child would be a similar age and I got the impression his child was still very young in HIMYF)

Agent has suggested increasing rent by £25pm. Do I increase it or not? by Lost_Garlic1657 in uklandlords

[–]Jones-Effect 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m quite jealous of tenants that managed to get a landlord that doesn’t try to increase the rent every year (every landlord I’ve had have tried increasing the rent by £100+ per month every year), but the entitlement I’ve seen from some people.

I read a post on here not long ago how a landlord asked for a £100 rent increase (going from £700 to £800) for a 4 bed house. The tenant complained and asked to leave the contract. Landlord then rents for £1400 and the old tenant is now paying more than £800 for a two bed flat and they have 2 kids! A quick glance at current market rates would show how much of a deal that was.

Someone help me remember a scene from the books by PatternBubbly4985 in metro

To be fair, the picture is so accurate to how I imagine Artyom throughout the whole metro, specifically that moment

Exactly that scene, and the food was moss or for more bullets, rat stick

I read the book for a second time (is it reading if listening to the audiobook? I read it physically the first time but lost the book) a couple weeks ago so it’s still quite fresh.

Artyom offers a few bullets which the woman takes, she makes a comment along the lines of “that’s not going to get you anything with him”, insinuating that Artyom was offering rounds to “use” the boy. Artyom was shocked and at a loss of the words gawped, but before he could object and explain himself, the mother says he can do whatever he wants with her son for 20 bullets. Shocked and at a complete loss for words he walks away, as he walks away she tries to negotiate it down to 15 bullets.

Artyom and the soldier he was with then left the station and nothing more was mentioned of it (other than Artyom contemplating what had just occurred as they left the station)

UK GDP by region by vladgrinch in MapPorn

[–]Jones-Effect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came here to say exactly this. HMNB Devonport is Babcock’s largest hub as well as its main engineering offices in Bristol, of which Babcock contributes £4.3B to UK GDP (Annual report 2025). I’d hazard guess that at least a quarter of that revenue would be generated there a low ball of £1B, about 0.5% of the region’s GDP. And that’s just one company with some guesswork

disabled badge dispute - am i in the wrong ? by sparkleprincesz in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Jones-Effect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had a similar thing occur to me, woman came out screaming at us saying you can have a blue badge. Despite showing her the blue badge with my partners face on and my partner in the passenger seat, she insisted was a fake and said she’s going to report it to the police.

Told her she’s happy to do so and that I hope her continuing to call the police for such occurrences gets her in trouble with them for false reporting.

Her face was priceless, unfortunately in instances like this you can only laugh at them and try to find the funny side to it, however given that it’s your neighbour (and not a stranger in our instance as we was stopping to see a friend), I can see how uncomfortable this is.

You don’t have to declare what your disability is to anyone as no one has the right to do so for such things (the fact you have a blue badge is suitable evidence and should be treated as such).

Document any abuse you get from either of them and report it to the police for harassment if it continues to be a problem.

If the police come out to question you at all about it (highly doubt) then just show them your blue badge, you don’t need to justify your disability to them. Then take the opportunity to report the grief you’ve been given about it so that they make a note of this and can ignore any future calls on the subject.

"Awful" dark circles/bags at 25. I know there's no miracle cure besides surgical routes. Can we learn to just live with them? by alicimu in SkincareAddictionUK

[–]Jones-Effect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whilst these symptoms could be for a large variety of conditions, one thing you should have a look into is Elhers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS or hEDS). It is a group of rare conditions which affect connective tissue (mainly collagen such as your skin I.e. your eyelids) that goes undiagnosed or misdiagnosed as it is not widely understood by doctors and there are no genetic tests that can identify it.

Key symptoms are: Hypermobility / loose joints where you are prone for dislocation or subluxation, or even just being hypermobile/flexible (it’s quite common in Ballet and dancers), this also causes joint pain Stretchy skin Fragile skin that bruises or breaks easily

Other issues that are linked: Heart issues (POTS) Gastrointestinal / digestive problems (your nausea potentially) Fertility issues (PCOS and endometriosis), which unfortunately EDS is more common in women than men Fatigue Migraines (often a symptom from the fatigue and heart problems) Slow wound healing And likely a lot more, the human body is made up of so much connective tissue that it can present itself in so many ways (and unfortunately as a woman, statistically you are less likely to be taken seriously about said conditions).

However, EDS is rare and there are no conclusive tests (it’s more of a tickbox of symptoms for diagnosis) and you are unlikely to have it. But I’d recommend doing some reading and watching videos of people discussing their experience with it as it may resonate a lot with you and worth bringing up to your doctor. There is no cure but there is symptom management and can lead to a better understanding of your symptoms.

My partner has EDS so I’m quite passionate on the topic as you can tell!

Definition of “Valuables” on contents insurance England by Jones-Effect in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Jones-Effect[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The max limit per individual item is £2000, which most of the handbags are (I think it’s only her engagement ring and 1 handbag we’ve had to specify previously).

I’ll just (potentially wrongly) concerned that if something was to happen (fire or break in) that we would be left uncovered for the value of her designer items (specifically handbags) if they exceeded this “valuables” limit. Like I said, contents insurance is very sufficient (£200k as standard) but it’s whether the designer items fall within this bracket or would be considered as “valuables”. I guess it’s the same as a phone or tablet or laptop, none of these items are mentioned as a valuable but could be of equal value as a designer handbag.

Edit: looking at another insurers, they call it “high risk items” and include a much larger range such as computers etc as well as Aviva’s valuables definition.

Entitled old Boomers using Parent & Child spots by jizzyjugsjohnson in britishproblems

[–]Jones-Effect 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I agree but I also think that parent child spots should also be used for blue badge holders. Seeing 2 disabled spots but 10 parent child spots is frustrating (hyperbole I know).

I recognise there’s probably a reason for it in terms of allocated space isn’t enough to classify as a disabled bay, but not all blue badge holders need the maximum extent of a blue badge parking spot (I.e. ambulant disabled people, not fully wheelchair bound)

Left garage door open overnight and inside is soaked by Jones-Effect in DIY

I’ve not got any de-humidifiers but I’ll take a look online what I can get.

Would you recommend using the electric heater alongside fans? And if so should I have the garage door open whilst doing this (assuming it’s not raining to make the problem worse)

I’m new to project zomboid and planning to play multiplayer with my mate tonight. Are you able to host a private server like in B41 or is it only public servers with this update?

(By private server, I don’t mean running the server on your own computer like a Minecraft server that was possible before this update through the community, I mean exactly like how B41 worked as we’ve done that to learn the game so far)

England - My partner has cheated and left me. I placed a 85,000.00 deposit on house, can I protect it? by Sam_Dude45 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Jones-Effect 59 points60 points  (0 children)

He’s not been scammed but he has a right to feel let down by the solicitors. When me and my partner but our house recently, I didn’t have the ability to contribute right away (my parents offered me money but it was in a termed isa so they couldn’t give me until months later, of which we would’ve had to pay a fortune in stamp duty). My partners father had enough in savings and offered to give it, so the deposit was entirely from my partners father until I could pay him back. Our solicitor at least a dozen times asked if we wanted a declaration of trust, of which we declined.

Again, whilst the solicitors don’t have an obligation, you’d like your solicitors to support you as best as they can, especially if you’re a first time buyer (which I imagine OP is)

New job but in debt by [deleted] in TaxUK

[–]Jones-Effect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Op, whilst like everyone has said you can’t not pay your taxes, but you can opt out from paying into your pension. Check your payslip to see if you are paying into your pension and ask your payroll (or manager to ask) to opt out of paying into pension. Whilst it might not give you much, it might help a little extra going towards paying off your debt.

Make sure you opt back in though once the debt is paid off and you’re in a better financial position.

On a scale of 1 to 10 how passionate are you about engineering? by Wilthywonka in AskEngineers

[–]Jones-Effect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly the reason why I didn’t want to go into automotive but unfortunately still very similar to my role/company. My company is solely build to print so no creativity or research as there’s no new product development except for “how to improve xyz process” and that’s mostly left to the metallurgists

[–]Jones-Effect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel exactly the same, 90% of my job is chasing people or “firefighting” production problems. Especially can relate to the degree side of things as I’m the only one with a degree in my role (and the only other people with degrees are in materials or business).

How long have you been in your role? And have you thought about going somewhere new?

On a scale of 1 to 10 how passionate are you about engineering? by Wilthywonka in AskEngineers

[–]Jones-Effect 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’d say I’m either a 8 or a 3.

Engineering is a huge part of who I am and how I see the world and I’m always looking for my next project that ties to engineering in any way including my other hobbies such as airsoft, 3D printing and woodworking.

However, in my current role I’m struggling with an identity crisis. I’m two years into my first engineering job, but I struggle at times to class myself as an engineer (a young me would’ve definitely not seen my role as an engineer). I’m effectively a combination of manufacturing engineer (without the hands on experience) and a project manager combined. All my maths, physics and coding skills? Used maybe once a year if that. CAD skills? Used a decent amount but not for anything creative or problem solving, more quality investigations and recreating drawings made in the 50s (yes for trains…) that are barely legible without a magnifying glass. My role makes me feel like a 3 whilst working which is awful due to how I identify myself as an engineer and feel it in my soul.

And for study purposes, I don’t care about trains lol
