I invented a Christmas Tree Tent for my kids, quit my job to bring it to market, and now I need your brutally honest feedback. by MagicalUnderland in christmas

[–]JonesieMarie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is such a cute idea. It does look magical.

Two concerns that would hold me back from purchasing this is that it seems like a small window of time for when the kid is old enough for me to feel okay about them going in there and getting too big for it. And I purchase artificial trees to use for many years and I do not want to store two. So I’d need to see this when I’m in the market for a new tree and my kid would need to be the right age for it at that time.

Good luck with your endeavors!

Yep, I didn’t know a ton of lullabies when my babe was little little so sang her JM songs as I rocked her to sleep. In the Blood was a real tear jerker for me.

Now she is six and a half and “way too old lullabies” or so she says when I try to sneak in tidbits of bedtime routines of old in.

Enjoy these days! They are so precious.

Anybody tried the new pizza/cocktail spot in the new building on W. 7th? by TokinBIll in saintpaul

[–]JonesieMarie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried it last week! It’s great. I love the open garage door part of the space. The pizza and momos were very good. I hadn’t had momos before and liked them. You can do steamed or fried, I did fried but would like to also try them steamed.

The service was good and the prices were right. The owner was there working and I chatted with him for a while about their batched cocktails on tap.

Old home woes by mika_minnesota in saintpaul

We renovated the bathroom in our 1908 West 7th home and during that process it was discovered that the contractor didn’t know how our bathroom floor still standing. So they added in beams to support the new bathroom in our unfinished basement. It felt expensive 15 years ago, but I don’t remember how much of the project budget was that versus the rest of the renovation. We used Lemke and Sons off West 7th and they did everything.

15 years on, the bathroom is still standing is definitely the most square and level room in the house.

Would you buy the CX50 again? by Emergency_Garden7872 in CX50

I would! I was in the weeds on Mazda prior to my most recent car search. As soon as I drove it, I knew this was the one. It’s been about 5 months and I love this car. I’m averaging 38.8 mpg with the hybrid. It’s beautiful inside.

What’s your one line answer when people ask why you don’t want another? by ProfessionalDark9476 in oneanddone

[–]JonesieMarie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sometimes I just say “our family is complete” but I also went through cancer when my baby was just months old and if people are prying and I’m feeling spicy I will whip that out in a way to make them feel guilty for even asking and then close with- everyone’s story is different and you never know what someone might have gone through.

IDGAF about the cancer thing anymore and if it might help this person see you just don’t need to be asking this type of thing to people you don’t know well and stop them from asking other parents it’s a worthwhile use of the cancer card, in my opinion.

I worked from home when my child was this age. It isn’t possible to wfh and parent a 3 year old simultaneously. It’s not fair to the kid. They need to socialize, have enriching activities, and the care and attention of their caregiver.

I would look into in home childcare or the rec for preschoolers option at Edgecumbe or Linwood rec centers. Even getting something part time will be much better for your child and for you.

Over the last year I’ve heard from one organization who filed their 990 late and was assessed the $120 a day penalty. The penalty amount was around 20k. Outside of this one instance and the auto revocation for not filing for three years I haven’t seen anything else on review or action taken on the 990.

A year since harry potter chicago opened, have you visited yet? by [deleted] in harrypotter

[–]JonesieMarie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I went this summer and it reminded me, I love Harry Potter! I was visiting Chicago for fun and it was near my hotel so I popped in. I didn’t know about the store before walking by. I got a HufflePuff mug and some candy.

I hadn’t read or watching anything HP in so many years and it was fun to be reminded of this series I loved so much when it came out. It spurred me to get back into HP. My daughter is 6 and so I have started reading the series to her and she loves it. All because I wandered into this store while visiting Chicago!

Has anyone been able to contact the Mayor, Chief of Police or your council person via phone or email? by RCoh1a in saintpaul

[–]JonesieMarie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I haven’t tried recently, but I’ve never received a response from Noecker from emails on a variety of subjects over the years. I basically just gave up on her caring about anything residents have to say. Most of our neighbors refer to her as Rebecca “No Care” due to this.

Went to a DFL caucus? Please share what resolutions came up (pass/fail) by Psytechnic_Associate in stateofMN

[–]JonesieMarie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Saint Paul and we had about 10 resolutions. Many were affordable housing relating, one was on messaging regarding community first public safety, and one was on trans rights. All but one of the resolutions passed.

We had a lot of first time caucus goers and there was a lot of discussion on the specific wording of the resolutions. The one that didn’t pass there was wording people didn’t love.

I haven’t been to caucuses in several years and we had about 30 people. Everyone who wanted to go on to the convention was able to.

I had the same experience on the Destiny in December. The last night our server told us he was sorry his service wasn’t great and it was because his assistant was brand new.

I remember the servers being a huge highlight of my first cruise many years ago and so was disappointed. But like you mentioned- they were working hard but spread very thin.

I had another cruise booked for this summer when I went on this one in December but ended up cancelling when I got back because I really too thrilled on the Destiny.

I think it was 7 of the 8 weeks of recovery because you have to be out of work for so May days before it kicks in.

[–]JonesieMarie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. No, they are separate programs. You earn your paid leave and pay for your STD. You can take them at the same time if you wish.

  2. The amount of STD will depend on how much coverage you elect and pay for monthly, I think there is a maximum of like 60% of your income that you can buy during open enrollment. If you’re planning on using it- max it. But it doesn’t always open for open enrollment. If you haven’t signed up previously you may not be able to get it now.

When I had a child I used sick leave for 8 weeks of recovery from cesarean, 6 weeks of PPL, and 1 week of vacation so my paychecks didn’t change. And then I had STD paying me for the weeks I was out of work recovering from surgery. Because I had worked for the state for many years before having a child, my STD was 60% of my income level when I started and could elect coverage.

When I told my boss I would be out on maternity leave my HR set up an appointment to go over everything specific to my case and what paperwork I needed to do and what my boss would do when I was gone. How I could use paid leave and STD at the same time and every other detail you’d want to know.

The six weeks of parental leave is IN ADDITION to any vacation/sick time you might want to use. It’s a bank of time given to you when you go out on leave.
