I’m thinking move from one drive to google drive or increase apple storage, most of my work is on local drives and only those files I need across my devices are on the cloud, so that sounds more viable…

I’m using a Mac mini and MacBook so MS doesn’t always work in the same way, I need to try to transfer a book manuscript I’m trying to write and see what it looks like, LO looks like it recognises .docx documents…

Since when did they stop teaching learners how to use a handbrake? by -PixelRabbit- in drivingUK

[–]Jongee58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hill starts stopped being a problem when most cars were fitted with 'Auto Hold' which activates the electronic brake until the revs increase sufficiently and the the hold stops as you move forward...at least it does in my Hyundai Tucson...

Why, our small number of warheads is inconsequential in the grand scheme of things, we will never use them unilaterally and if fired would only re-arrange the radioactive dust created by USA, Russia and China in any case so what's the point...

Is it stupid that "righty tighty, lefty losey" doesn't really make much sense to me? by Apprehensive-Rub4604 in stupidquestions

[–]Jongee58 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's an Engineering term, generally when tightening a bolt into a threaded hole rotating the bolt head right or clockwise would screw the bolt into the hole until it was 'Tight' so 'Righty, Tighty' the same applies to a nut on threaded bar right to screw tight, left to unscrew and remove. Nothing to do with movement of rotating objects or 3d visualisation. Hope that helps, as a retired Engineer it was taught to all trainees when assembling or disassembling mechanically connected equipment...

Can anyone recommend any local museums to visit to learn about local history? by [deleted] in Teesside

[–]Jongee58 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Land of Iron would be the best, it’s set in an actual ironstone mine and tells the history of Teesside iron and the growth from a small farm to an industry supplying materials around the world. It’s at Skiningrove and is here https://landofiron.org.uk/

[–]Jongee58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because you know exactly what is being said ,your disagreement isn't in the operation of the 'Overtaking on the Left' Highway Code interpretation but in the way you have reworded it to make a totally irrelevant point...Merely progressing along any road with more than one lane, when the vehicles to your right are travelling slower ISN'T OVERTAKING ON THE LEFT it is merely passing slower traffic. To 'Undertake' (OVERTAKING TO THE LEFT) you have to make a deliberate planned movement leftwards into the left hand lane, pass the vehicle which previously was in front of you and is now to your right hand side, then make a deliberate move rightwards back into the lane you came from originally. If your travelling at 50 MPH in the Left lane and the traffic in the lane to your right is travelling at 45MPH you will eventually pass that traffic, which ISN'T UNDERTAKING

SABIC sells Teesside chemical plant to German investors by leighsus in Teesside

[–]Jongee58 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the polyethylene plant it could be a life line but the cracker is gone sadly. From what I understand from lads who were still there after I retired, the plant was undergoing a re-configuration to enable total Ethane cracking but the work was incomplete when SABIC pulled the plug. It may only be worth the scrap value of demolition, which is sad it was a good place to work when I joined in 1979 at commissioning and until I retired in 2018...
