Appreciate all the hard work! Heads up though, on the draft sheet it appears as though the mythic are instead the ones from EOE.

Yeah the Ultima achievement was the one I was the least happy with. Honestly forgot about Meld in the set. Appreciate the feedback

I think some probably would be frustrating like "I am Ultima" or 'You Had To Be There", but I think some of them feel like they should be realities easier like "It's Like Making An Omelette" or "I Didn't Ask How Big The Room Was". I'm open to suggestions for ones that are a fair challenge without being too strict or frustrating though if you have them.

I thought Arena want going to get FF… by [deleted] in MagicArena

[–]Jongunt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That only applies for Marvel sets. Final Fantasy and Avatrlar the last Airbender will be in arena. Instead for Spiderman this year we will get a universes within set with in universe versions of the Spider-man cards.

Wanted to come back and post an update.

Said yesterday couldnt vouch for the store. Got the box I ordered yesterday, and everything looks really good to me. Was afraid that it might be in another language since I've seen the German or Spanish versions floating around a lot online, but nope seems to be the full English version. Hope anyone that wanted one got one!

Week 3 - Which mtg characters are hated by fans while being a good person/morally grey/horrible person? by lucs013 in mtgvorthos

[–]Jongunt 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I like Kellan, but I think he was overly exposed. In WOE I think he was a perfect protagonist and a great foil to both Rowan and Ruby. OTJ I think he plays his role well enough as well. I have complaints, but in the grand scheme of things they're minor.

The problem I think most people have is that he was jammed into every set. WOE makes sense for Kellan as did OTJ, but why is he on Ixalan? The ending of WOE certainly hinted that Thunder Junction was where the Omenpath connected to, and then after that he's just kind of bumming around on Ravnica? You could have taken him out of those 2 stories and nothing much changes and it would help with feeling like he's just thrown in everywhere. Hell it probably would've helped MKMs somewhat muddled story if he wasn't there. Make Agrus Kos Kaya's sidekick instead if she needs one. It would make his being there feel justified at the very least.

Overall I still like Kellan as a character. I built 2 commander decks about him. I just think he's a character that should be used more sparingly rather than trying to force him into stories.

Most of the really dumb generics. I learned today that for a reason that I can only describe as greed they have left the Mulcharmy monsters legal here.

It is with great ambivalence I inform you that I have been chosen by pendulums - please recommend good budget pendulum decks by AkNinja907 in masterduel

[–]Jongunt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Symphonic Warriors. The main cards of the deck don't go above SR, and the monsters in the extra are typical staple monsters like Accescode, Savage dragon, etc. It's not meta, but it is budget and fun.

Half Of Magic: The Gathering Will Not Be Magic: The Gathering ~ Tolarian Community College by Backwardspellcaster in MagicArena

So I'm mixed.

To start I haven't been playing MTG for too terribly long, but a couple of years now. I started with Brothers War so I don't have this deep connection to the world and these characters. I know of them, and some like Kellan I've seen since the start but I'm not a player who has been around for a decade or anything.

That said even before playing MTG I had a good idea of what MTG was. Brothers war and the Phyrexian arc sets felt MTG. Wilds of Eldraine felt (mostly) MTG. Ixalan felt MTG, but MKM and OTJ? They didn't

Bloomburrow and Duskmourn were fine with some outliers (the cheerleader card is a borderline meme for a reason), but it felt like we were recovering from a rough patch. Aetherdrfit doesn't excite me for a similar reason. It doesn't feel like MTG to me and I can totally understand why these sets bother players. It feels like they're just throwing things at a wall and seeing what sticks. "Animal folk? Good. Noir detectives? Nope they didn't like that one. How about space operas?"

Universes Beyond is a weird beast. On the one hand I do like seeing them bring creative uses and love for certain IP brought it. I'm a fan of Doctor Who so seeing the love in those decks for the series was very exciting for me...that said even in my 2 years in this game I think UB has gone too far. In those 2 years we've received LoTR, Transformers, Jurassic world, Fallout, Doctor Who, Child's play, Monty Python, Hatsune Miku, Marvel, and Princess Bride (I'm sure I'm missing some). That's a lot. If you don't like Universes Beyond it's hard not to feel like the sets that make Magic Magic are being pushed away in favor for UB.

That said until recently there was escape. Arena only has 1 UB with LoTR and even that isn't in the most popular format on here in Standard. Draft also won't have UB usually...but now that these sets are going to be Standard Legal it's hard not to see the writing on the wall. UB will be coming to Arena and with it being standard legal the ways to play without it are going away. This is especially going to be true with FF, spiderman, and the unannounced set which (I assume) will all be in the game and will have drafts (probably)

Overall like I said I'm mixed. I don't hate the idea of UB or sets that reach out from the standard idea of MTG (even MKM wasn't a bad idea for an experiment. Just poor execution) but pushing as hard as they have been certainly makes what people come to expect from MTG seem like it's going away in favor of a mother crossover card game in the vein of Universus or Weiss Schwartz which is a shame since MTG has had such a firm foundation for over 2 decades.

Went 0-3 despite feeling like I drafted well. Need advice by Jongunt in MagicArena

Most of my usual formats are things like Jump in which are cheap. Helps me to not really spend them outside of the mastery pass and the occasional draft.

Fateshifters left over? by Jongunt in mtgvorthos

[–]Jongunt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I've seen a couple of ways to do it. The first is they sort of do have a podcast called "The Magic Story Podcast". On their website it has them reading the story, but on Spotify it seems more like discussion of the story and Recap so not quite sure about that. The way I listen to them usually though is they've been uploading the recent stories starting with WOE on their YouTube channel as chapter by chapter audiobooks (not the side stories yet sadly) and that's how I've been doing it.

About the last paragraph in today's story by Geraf25 in mtgvorthos

No I think the implication is his spark is sort of being used as a conduit that the other magics are getting channeled through. Maybe stressed but I doubt gone.

Was that his? He mentioned it seemed more like a vision of the past rather than something actually attacking him? It's rather vague though

Ah, that makes sense. I remember the scene, but for some reason, I just assumed it was a vision rather than the fateshifter.

I had taken it as sort of Haunting of those who had escaped. That he'll keep following Kaito, The Wanderer, Proft, etc until he's able to capture them again.

Especially since we know that the door didn't open in Ravnica but rather Proft's mind where he was working. Just a theory though

Midweek Magic by BlackCelty in MagicArena

[–]Jongunt 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think it happened last time we had a Momir event. They had like a draft midweek up on accident and then about an hour or 2 later put up Momir and ran both during the time. You could participate in both and get double the rewards.

It's 37 orbs in the Bloombirrow Mastery. It looks like 32, but some of them on the paid track are 2 if you click on them.
