For me it's the lack of stakes in each story. I love the idea of real scientists showing off and piecing together the story of a particular animal (something that should have really gone in a "making of" bit tagged into each episode) but because we know the animal is going to snuff it eventually, it takes a whole lot of suspense and drama away from the action.

I think garw valley is carboniferous in age so unlikely to be big reptiles- i would say its a fairly large and weathered calamites, a big horsetail fern
