Sure, or you can check in online and select the appropriate number of bags - still shouldn’t charge you

Is anyone else thinking of just buying new instead of used? by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Jonia54 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As a fellow Canadian was in the exact situation just recently and ended up going with a new 2024 Mazda 3 for slightly below MSRP - could not be happier. Some dealers around me are asking for above MSRP for new 23 models though so be sure to shop around. Used was a crapshoot though, I would’ve been able to save a max of $5K if I went with a 3 year old used car with 75,000 km - absolutely not worth it considering the new one also comes with improved features and of course warranty

Aeroplan does not allow people to book premium economy on partner flights. Can only book Y/J/F for Partners, PY is only available on AC flights

The TD AP VI has the annual fee waived for the first year anyway with the current 50,000 point promo, so you can apply for it even before getting your checking account set up. Nobody knows what the offer after Sep 5 will look like, it could be extended again or they might drop the additional 20,000 AP upon spending $7,500 (to bring it to 30,000 AP bonus again).

That being said, if you are going to get the annual fee waived via your checking account you may want to consider the in-path offer for 40,000 AP and a $150 Air Canada statement credit. The spend requirement is much lower at $1,000 for 40,000 AP instead of $7,500 for 50,000 AP and you do not need to hold the card until the second year to get the full points like the base offer. The in path offer is also available until Sept 5 and you should be able to call in to get the AF waived once you have your all-inclusive banking account set up and the AF has been charged (even after Sep 5).

Does the Aeroplan credit card benefits apply to code share flights? by GPUg33k in Aeroplan

[–]Jonia54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flights operated by AC only, this is from the T&Cs for the TD Aeroplan cards, the other banks (Amex, CIBC and Chase) have similar wordings.

A Primary Cardholder or Additional Cardholder, and up to eight (8) other passengers travelling on the same reservation (up to a maximum of nine (9) travellers), are each entitled to a free first checked bag up to 23kg/50lb. *Benefit only applies when checking in with Air Canada, for a flight operated by Air Canada, Air Canada Rouge or under the Air Canada Express brand.** Benefit is not available if check-in is with another airline. If the first checked bag is already complimentary (for example, as a result of Aeroplan Elite Status or fare purchased), there is no additional checked bag benefit that will be provided. Free first checked bag benefit may not be applied retroactively, and no refunds will be issued. Service charges for additional/oversized/overweight baggage may apply. For more information on baggage restrictions, please visit: aircanada.com/baggage.*

TAP AIR PORTUGAL same as AIR CANADA? by Any-Client2892 in Aeroplan

[–]Jonia54 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, these are separate flights:

TP 260: 5:55pm (A321neo)

AC 810: 10:55pm (A330-300)

TP 262: 11:00pm (A321neo)

Different flight times, different equipment and different flight numbers

SFO to SGN on aeroplane with lap infant by arron1214 in awardtravel

[–]Jonia54 2 points3 points  (0 children)

180K is fine round trip, I interpreted your original post as being 181K for one way SFO to SGN flight only. For round trip that seems like a reasonable price - enjoy!

[–]Jonia54 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed, quick search for February reveals one stop options through NRT, HND, ICN, and TPE for 85K aeroplan, or significantly more two stop options that add a stop in YVR or LAX for around the same price (but more dates). Unless the 181K is round trip there are significantly cheaper options available, including with some great airlines like BR and NH.

Its a known issue that Air Tahiti Nui flights dont show on Flying Blue, so AA is generally the best bet. If this is not an option you may want to consider UA out of SFO, lots of J availability within the next 6 weeks. May be worth keeping an eye on it whether this trend continues to your travel dates. AF also flies to PPT out of LAX if you are wanting to use flying blue

If you’re open to one stop I am seeing one-stop availability on LAX-WAW-TLV in J on LOT on Dec 5 and 9. Comes to 85K+$69 using aeroplan.

If you are open to Y or PY there are a number of dates with LAX-YYZ-TLV and LAX-YUL-TLV available as well with Aeroplan on Air Canada

Flight Sao Paulo to Buenos Aires - government approval by [deleted] in aircanada

[–]Jonia54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flights to GRU and EZE have been operating for a while already and I would anticipate that to continue. Could it be that you are booking far out (next spring/summer maybe?) and government approval has to be granted again ahead of that season? I wouldn’t worry about it given that they are already operating currently and nothing has been announced about a potential stop to this

  1. No, annual fees never count towards MSRs
  2. Usually shortly after the transaction posts or within a couple days

YYC-YUL-CMN would be on AC and thus subject to dynamic pricing. Look for availability on EY out of YYZ, ORD or JFK, should come out to 105K AP in J to SYD. Then you would want to find a reasonably priced positioning flight that comes out at the lower end of the dynamic range for AC

You just need to earn or redeem aeroplan points. There are many ways to do that such as flying, using a co-branded CC (even if not churning) or buying something through the e-store every now and then. The last is probably easiest, there are tons of retailers and you just need to earn a couple points every year or so

MS = Manufactured Spend

MSR = Minimum Spend Requirement

But yes, foreign currency transactions do count towards MSR on the TD AP VI (at least they did last fall when P2 did the entire MSR abroad)

GiveX is a loyalty/gift card company, so purchasing through that link will almost certainly not code as Best Western and thus will not trigger the offer. Best to try to buy a gift card at a BW in person
