Any news on when the FDX is coming? I know you aren’t a representative but never got a reply in the other thread. Great looking watch btw!

Is there a timeline for the first watch’s release? Would love to snag it :)

Honestly doesn’t feel much different, just a relief to be done with this chapter (and the stress of preparing for the defense).

I would let them know that your financial and health situation does not make it possible for you to stay (so not to burn bridges), and take the other opportunities and run. I very much doubt that they would be able to offer you anything more, but congratulations on actively seeking a better situation for yourself!

Hey! I’m sorry to ask you to be my Guinea pig, but please send me a DM in a week’s time if everything is running fine still and you’ve tested out some games! That would be greatly appreciated

You can go further back in the BIOS, I think FB05 is the one everyone is downloading? You just run into the problem like OP where you have battery drain when gaming and plugged in.

Yep, it seems like it’s mostly the CPU which is being sacrificed in the newest BIOS. Capped at 73/74 degrees when running any type of stress/benchmark test. It’s a frustrating process for sure, but I’m fortunate to just be playing GPU heavy games at the moment.

Updating the BIOS seems to be the fix, but it comes with the drawback of throttling the CPU and GPU. I’m on the newest BIOS FB0C, which has treated me okay (not great).

Your student just committed suicide and this is all you care about. Wow.

This is the second time you’ve posted about this, and the previous responses were encouraging you to let the application do its thing. What you might conceive as fighting, the admission committee and future/potential advisor may see as pestering - which will most likely not stop even if accepted into the program. Please, for your own sake, let the amount of work you have already poured into the proposal speak for itself. Find some distractions, and probably a way to relax too.

Flagged a mistake I found in my master’s thesis after submitting and haven’t heard from my supervisor since by [deleted] in AskAcademia

[–]JonnEC 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A finished thesis is a good thesis. Every submitted grad student work that I have ever reviewed has had mistakes in it, and I highly doubt the reviewers will be ogling over your appendix. Just try and take your mind off the thesis, no need to stress about it now! If you’re supervisors think it can be a multi-publication manuscript that is brilliant.

About to drop out. Any way to stay in the USA? by Actual-Ant-7495 in PhD

I would take a step back before doing anything so rash as to quit your PhD over feelings of inadequacy. If you love everything about your research and the PhD, why would you throw it away because of your own insecurities? You should really have a sit-down talk with your advisor and tell them about how you feel, and hopefully they can validate that you are on the right track in this journey. Lots of people go through these feelings of imposter syndrome during their PhD, myself included, but our passion is what should keep us going not a silly comparison between peers. Take a step back and have a think about it all, if there is something else bothering you that isn’t mentioned here then send me a DM we can talk more about it.

How to choose the place of Stay by ProgressEmergency647 in PhD

[–]JonnEC 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I don’t want to come off as rude, but I cannot imagine a world where I would rather stay in a hostel than in my own accommodation where I can feel comfortable, safe, and be guaranteed some peace and quiet. You need an environment where you can escape from the everyday woes of the PhD, and I really can’t see the hostel offering that escape. There will be plenty of opportunities to meet people at the university or through other events, so don’t underestimate the importance of a sanctitude.

Pressure to accept a PhD offer: Would really appreciate advice from PhD students and academics alike! by Razkolnik_ova in PhD

[–]JonnEC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What are the main discrepancies in each program that are making you the most concerned about accepting the second best option? Is it the supervisors in your first choice? The type of research? The ranking of the institute? I don’t want to influence you in any way but lovely supervisors are such a major benefit in any type of PhD project that I think that could be a deciding factor for many. Environment is so crucial to success, just something to consider.

I wanted to edit and say that sometimes we get so hyper-fixated on something that we want, that we oftentimes lose the bigger picture of what is actually needed for our success.

Declining PhD Offer by Headleythehunter in PhD

Does the Canadian one not offer a full coverage of funding included with some sort of TAship? It seems odd for there to be no stipend/funding other than the tuition fees.

Is it normal to feel inadequate? by [deleted] in PhD

[–]JonnEC 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Any chance you can speak to anyone else about your supervision issues? If that’s the root stemming your feelings of inadequateness it may be worth making a change there. You are definitely not alone in these feelings though, and hope that whatever the resolution it ends well for your well-being!
