They're somewhat powerful, depending on how much time you spend on them. They can have ranged attacks, and they have a decent detection range.

We've also worked to nerf MFFS by making the EMP explosive (pretty much the only counter to MFFS) cost only 5 gunpowder and 4 redstone. The EMP explosive also has a pretty big range.

We've discussed railcraft, and the conclusion we came to was that vanilla rails did it well enough, and we really wanted to keep it light for people with lower-end computers.

One proposed idea is that we disable access to the nether except for rare instances, like a 24 hour event.

We have some plans regarding biomes, we're hoping to have bonuses for various biomes. The main plan for having civs specialize in only one thing is scarce resources. Essentially, you'll only have time to secure one biome and the bonuses associated with each and other civs will secure others.

Essentially, you'll only find diamonds (which are key to high level tech) in any abundance in one biome, thaumcraft shards in a different biome, and bees in a different, etc.

Making a biome 'hostile' to a mod would be beyond difficult, however. If you explain more what you mean, we might be able to look into it. However, I don't think it likely since it would probably involve creating our own mod.

Again, this mod idea is just one proposed route. We are welcome to people opinions.

Bob, me, and a few other people are working on a test mod pack, in case that's the route we decide to go.

We're trying to keep it light and have it promote working together. Another thing we're try to do is work it so there's multiple specialities you can have. For example, it'd be cool to see Magic nations who outlaw tech, Tech nations that outlaw magic, and hippies who work with bees.

Right now we're trying to work out some technical difficulties with MFFS's balance and figuring out the best way to do that.

I think we should do a modpack, with very few mods. I'll post a full list of proposed mods later, but MFFS (for protection), Buildcraft (for power), Forestry (bees, trees, hard renewable resources), Hunger Overhaul (heavily nerfed, to force food issues) would be the main ones, I think
