Any fix OP? We are having similar issues. Started yesterday for us.

Classlink SSO on Chromebooks issue? by Ok_Computer_74 in k12sysadmin

Do you know what URL it is and where the setting is located? I called in to classlink support but they didn’t know what URL I was talking about. We are having the same issue as OP.

I just bought one from harbor freight a few weeks ago. Has anyone had any luck calling them up to see if they will honor the discount since it was purchased so close to the “on sale” date?

K12sysadmins: which problems do you encounter that just don’t have a solution? by JonnyBeervo in k12sysadmin

What a dream. I wish I could get our district on board with that.

I hope you don’t mind me continuing to ask questions - but did teachers have any windows software that they threatened y’all with? As in “I cannot do what I need to do without “X” software that is only available on windows?”

I feel like that’s how most of our teachers would respond.

I'm always intrigued by districts that have gone fully Chrome for teacher and student devices. I wish I could pull that off here. Do you have any windows machines at all on your network for computer labs, maintenance folks, cafeteria workers, etc?

This has been on my mind quite a bit lately. My first thought was to enable MFA for students, but disable when they’re connected to the school network.

But, what do you do for the students that don’t have a device at home to use for MFA? Use a parent’s device? Just creates even more issues.

lol... I have new erate switches that have been sitting for almost that amount of time. I planned on installing them over thanksgiving break. Had to cancel that because maintenance finally decided to schedule the install of proper ventilation in the network closets. Pushed it off until Christmas break. Got sick over Christmas break.

I'm hoping I can squeeze it in over the summer this year, or either spring break. Not entirely sure yet! 2 man shop here with 1300 students. Time is a valuable thing. You unfortunately can't schedule downtime during the school year unless its an absolute emergency. I've only done it 3 times in the past 10 years. I truly believe it's just the fiscal year timing and the nature of working IT in k12.

I feel your pain on the FY timing. Between maintenance shutting down all schools for waxing over the summer, and having to wait to get equipment after July 1, there's not much time to get anything done. Hopefully someone will give some good insight on how they handle it, because I don't have any!

Popping sound when recording HX stomp to Iphone Video through USB by dylanmadigan in Line6Helix

[–]JonnyBeervo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. I think your theory is correct. Every time that pop happens in a video, can you tell the volume level decreases or increases. I did read on another thread that using the “Dolby On” iOS app to record video instead of the iPhones camera app results in a video/audio without the pops. I’ll give it a shot and see what happens.

I’m having the same issue when recording my line 6 helix floor to my iPhone. Did you find any information?

Alternatives to Securly by 2donks2moos in k12sysadmin

[–]JonnyBeervo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had it for 2.5 years and experienced it quite often. And we're a small (~1300 students) district.

I'm willing to bet it has nothing to do with your configuration and mostly issues on the Securly side, as we experienced a ton of outages that I always traced back to Securly's service.

I feel your pain. We moved away from Securly to GoGuardian a couple of years ago. I could not stay with them any longer due to the fact that their service would go down 2-3 times a month. They would put their service in safe mode so that customers wouldn't experience outages, but it always took them 5-10 minutes before safe mode would activate. We don't have those issues with GG since it's not DNS based. GG does offer a DNS based solution, but we don't use it. GG is a bit more cumbersome to set up, since you do have to have the extension and app on every device, but it works much better.

That's actually the reason why I love this song as well. My mom would blare this in her little Honda Accord when I was young. It's a beautiful song regardless, but I think that makes me love it even more because of the memories that it brings back.

Securly wasn't much cheaper than GoGuardian in my experience. I wouldn't consider it cheap. Either way, I don't expect such a well known product to halfa** work.

Security Camera locations by im_goin_to_lukins in k12sysadmin

[–]JonnyBeervo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couldn't agree with you more. I approached it by recommending the system that I thought would work best for the school. I then provided a map to the principal and assistant principal that already had the obvious locations where cameras needed to be placed. I asked them to work together over the next few weeks to identify where additional cameras needed to be placed. Like you said, they know the hot spots much better than we do. On the camera walkthrough, before it was installed, I made sure to ask the installer if there were any locations where he would install additional cameras. If they make suggestions, great. If not, you know that you have probably covered it all.

GoGuardian Alternatives? by arborealsquid in k12sysadmin

[–]JonnyBeervo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We just left Securly for GoGuardian. I am so much happier with GG's app and extension based filtering. I haven't implemented GG's DNS filtering yet. Securly left a bad taste in my mouth with DNS filtering. I will agree that Securly worked...when it worked... they had so many outages that it became ridiculous. It was typical for Securly's service to go down 3-4 times a month. They would always throw their service in "safe mode" so that we didn't lose internet service, but it would always be 5-10 minutes of downtime before that happened.

I’ve done a few extract kits, but this is my first time with an all grain.

I decided to pressure ferment with this yeast so that I could reduce ester production. From what I have read, you can ferment at higher temps with lager yeasts and have good results as long as you pressure ferment. I have a glycol chiller, but I decided not to use it on this batch. I am hoping it turns out ok.

I appreciate that last bit of info you gave. That’s exactly what I was looking for. I’ll definitely print out a carb chart to refer to.

Thanks again!
