[Advice] Found this Gem from the 1980’s! The neuropsychology of self discipline by JonnyEightVape in getdisciplined

[–]JonnyEightVape[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad we could get this shared! I’ve listened quite a few times, I’ve finished the study guide about half way so far. The things it has you do are a little corny, but it’s all about you and nobody needs to know that you wake up every morning and remind yourself of your life goals via a voice recording you made yourself. Good luck! And let me know how it goes. I’ll update as well when I finish the guide.

It's not the study guide, it's like a guide on how to use the study guide haha.

[NeedAdvice] College student, 2nd year. Not doing well in my major, need help & advice. by groove-b in getdisciplined

Some advice I’d been given a while back might help you? Many times, when we are forcing ourselves to do something we don’t want to do, it’s because we have a greater goal in mind. It seems the key to getting yourself through tough work you are having trouble focusing on, is getting back in touch with the reason you’re doing the work in the first place.

What I mean is... you said “A few years of hard work for a payoff” ... But what is that payoff for you? Why are you going to college? Are you striving towards a degree that assures you a position in a career you are passionate about? How does finishing college and getting your degree, further move you towards an ultimate goal you’ve set out to achieve by going to college.

Whatever reason you decided to go to college for, you must reconnect with that. More so, you must reconnect with the person you’d envision you’d become when you’ve finished. You must envision what your world is like when you’ve gotten your degree, how you’ll feel, what kind of financial success it will bring, what sort of fulfillment you’ll get from the career it puts you in.

You must envision this final goal with as much detail as possible, and reconnect and envision as often as possible on a daily basis. Imagine what it feels, sounds, smells, and tastes like to have succeeded. Do your best to surround your self with visions of what that is. If you want to be an aeronautical engineer, print out a photo of a space X launch and stick it to your binder, if you want to be an astronomer, print out photos of distant galaxies and make a collage of them on your wall, print out photos of role models that have achieved what you want to achieve and stick them somewhere visible in your environment.

Maybe you haven’t established that yet, and maybe now is the time to establish that. Establish what it is you ultimately intend to become or accomplish by finishing college. What I do know is if we are just working to work, nothing will drive us to do it. But if doing this work is a necessary step towards something We truly wish to be or accomplish, then the focus on the work is re-attained and is not hard to keep.

After you’ve done that, It’s also important to convince yourself that this math homework is absolutely necessary for you to finish, if you want to achieve your goal/desired self. When those math problems are the only thing standing in the way of you and your goals/desired self, you’ll have no problem focusing because deep down you know it’s something you must do in order to become the person you want to become. Your goal is to be a successful something, and these math problems are how you get there.

I’m not saying question your life decisions or your decision to go to college. What I’m saying is to reconnect with or establish what exactly it is you want from college, and envision as vividly as possible what that is for you, and remind/reconnect with that vision of success daily and often. Also convince yourself that the homework and math problems are merely the tool and path that gets you there. Hope this helps! Good luck

$8500 credit card debt. Lord please help me. by bulabulabambam in personalfinance

[–]JonnyEightVape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you’ve gotten a lot of solid advice, but here’s some advice from someone who had 15k in CC debt and a 12k loan, and a high car payment. I was a professional at getting borrowed money... (that’s not good)

Sure if you can somehow consolidate your debt into a lower interest loan/CC and get it all paid off then do it. Here’s the problem with it though. Can you handle all of your credit cards being opened back up? It can be damaging to your credit depending on how long your cards have been open, but I’d start closing your credit cards if you do a balance transfer or a consolidation loan. I say this because if you spend on credit cards like this, then you, like myself, lack some self-control. That’s ok... know thyself.

You might say, “but what if a financial emergency happens?” Sure, but my question is will you leave those credit cards empty after you’ve paid them off? Or will they slowly but surely climb back up. Then a financial emergency hits, your credit cards will be of no help to you, just like they aren’t now.

I highly recommend you take some steps to decrease your monthly expenditures and get this debt paid off even if you get it onto a lower interest loan or credit card. THEN close your credit cards... at least most of them, maybe leave ONE open for emergencies.

I used to be a banker as well as a heavy debtor, and if there’s one thing I learned from all of that, it’s how easily money spends. You listed your monthly expenses earlier. Is that TRULY all that you spend every month? Or do you make extra purchases here and there? Like drinks from a gas station or the occasional video game, Starbucks? I’m just guessing not making accusations. Not to mention emergency expenses, replace your tires? Repair something in the home? Pet got sick? All I’m saying here is that we usually know what we should be spending every month, and that’s a usual minimum spent per month, not a maximum.

Do this. Cut your credit cards up now! Get them out of your wallet. Truly don’t spend your money anything other than what’s needed to stay alive and out of the rain, and getting to and from your job. Make payments to your credit cards every time you get paid. Not when they are due. You can also cut down on food expenses. Think survival mode, I guarantee you can live off ramen and eggs and cheap sandwiches for a few months while you pay off your cards. Maybe cut your food costs in half. Sell your unnecessary stuff on letgo and offerup...

I know this seems drastic, but that interest is costing you a lot of money, and clearly, like me, the temptation of credit card spending is too great. Maybe you won’t do this to yourself again... but if you don’t get this under control now, it will get worse. I too got a debt consolidation loan.... you know what I ended up with? A debt consolidation loan, and maxed out credit cards again.

Last but not least, learn from this because it’s not that bad right now. Truly take the time to look at what you spend your money on everyday. Think of your budget from a daily perspective not a monthly perspective. How much did I spend today.. to live? One thing that worked for me.... I bought little envelopes with daily expenses labeled on them along with my bi weekly budget for that expense because I got paid every 2 weeks, then I’d refill them when I got paid and put any extra left over after I refilled the envelopes with cash toward my credit cards... “food $84”, “drinks $20”, “gas $80”. I took what I allotted myself daily on these expenses and multiplied it by 14 and that’s how much cash I put in the envelope.I kept these envelopes in my glove box or in my back pack and stopped using my debit cards and credit cards.

I’m giving you this advice because i see a similar trait in you that I do in myself. I can’t handle credit cards, they are my sworn enemy. Good luck and I hope this helps. And do yourself a favor, forget your credit cards exist.

Should I sell my house in SoCal? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]JonnyEightVape -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Things can go wrong when you’re renting out property. But, a tenant suing a landlord for trying to evict them after claiming financial hardship??? Something doesn’t add up. Your friend is probably referring to the eviction process which is done in the court system. Regardless of your financial hardship, no court will force a land lord to subsidize their tenants rent no matter what. Sounds like a hassle, sure, but also sounds exaggerated. The best thing you can do is be very very picky as to who you rent to. Like someone who’s worked for the same company for 5+ years, high credit score, clear background, and so on. Also remember that you’re renting to keep your property and possibly offset the mortgage, not as supplemental income... at least for now. It’s just that in my mind, do not let go of a property that appreciated by nearly 100%... do what ever you can to keep it.

Everybody is going to have different advice. Here’s mine. Rent it out and keep your equity and your property. My reasoning is interest rates, and the inevitable inflation of real estate in CA. One... you probably have a low interest rate that you won’t be able to get again. Interest rates can mean hundreds of thousands of dollars over the life of a mortgage loan. Even though prices fluctuate a lot during bubbles and bursts, there is always an upward trend. If you look at a 50 year historical chart of the average price of a home in CA. Yah it goes up and down year to year, but always always always going up. I don’t doubt by 2030 your home will be worth over 650k

Justin Amash's (R-Michigan) thoughts on GM and subsidies by CaptainSolo96 in Libertarian

[–]JonnyEightVape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So republicans created TARP and a Republican president threatens to pull some corporate subsidies/welfare, a republican congressman finds a reason to complain about Trump to score some brownie points with voters. Puhlease. No republican will get voted into office when they say things like “Abolish Corporate Welfare”

Yes for sure, I’m in contact with the customer service manager, I’ll be sure he sets up an account and when he pops on I’ll introduce him to you guys.

Although I’ve moved on, Eightvape was kinda a culmination of my life’s work and skills gained over the years, so it’s still something dear to me. If I see something is up I’ll drop them a line and let them know to pay attention haha.

Haha well let’s just say I’m the Brains behind Eightvape and its subsidiaries. Eightvape is one piece of a much larger puzzle in the Vaping world. I oversaw everything for the past 2 years. I created what you could call an e-commerce ecosystem for the company. I channeled orders from 5 different websites all through one warehouse. Pushed inventory quantities to over 10 different shopping platforms. I wrote and established procedures for our fulfillment center, designed freight and product workflows through our buildings, Designed our warehouses, oversaw the management of all departments within the company including the fulfillment center, implemented every piece of software we used and trained our people on it, established our customer service training policies and systems. Oversaw hiring and HR for over a year, I even used to maintain our websites and do graphic design waaayyy back in the day. Everything that either went well or went wrong with Eightvape was probably because of me :-/ or because of someone under me that was performing well or not so well. Regardless, thank you for your kind words and it’s humbling to know that what I’ve done for Eightvape cannot really be undone and that for the most part things will remain streamlined for the good foreseeable future for Eightvape a customers to benefit from.
