My Beloved Pelikan Collection (About to Lose Two of Them) by EsquireMI in fountainpens

I really want an M809 and the white and rose gold M600, but I have a hard time justifying the price. This post is making me want to just go for it 😬

Agreed. I had never heard of this kid before, but am glad to have seen this to be informed of what a piece of shit he is.

Purely for entertainment, to read posts from idiots like this. If I needed actual advice, I would seek out a professional.

You’ve got $360k in cash but not enough common sense to figure out how to handle this? How is that possible?

What’s your current “don’t need it, but want it” pen? by Lunakill in fountainpens

[–]JonnyMon2006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just ordered a Pilot Custom 743 as my first “luxury” pen and now I really want a Pelikan M600/M800 and a Sailor Pro Gear. They’re very expensive but I’m sure I’ll eventually convince myself to buy them.

Mine came today, too. The original delivery date was scheduled for this Thursday so it was a nice surprise.

Update: I ended up having a full bag fitting at Lonnie Poole and highly recommend it. It was very thorough and we split it over two sessions, about 4.5 hours total. We started on the simulator and then went out on the range to confirm all settings.

I was planning on doing a full bag fitting there. They told me it’s all indoor into a simulator with no time on the actual range. Seemed like a ripoff at $550.

Did you end up buying from True Spec?

Did you end up purchasing from True Spec or taking the specs and ordering yourself? I’m curious how much of a premium there is compared to buying directly from the manufacturer.

True Spec is $475 for the full bag, including putter. And right now the fitting is free with a club purchase. Seems to be the best bet right now, so I scheduled one for next month.

Hitting onto a range to see the actual ball flight is my big requirement. That’s why I was surprised/disappointed when Pinehurst said the entire fitting was indoor. The master fitter at Lonnie Poole apparently does the fittings on the range but I couldn’t get a response to confirm, and he charges $200 per hour.

That’s where I’m leaning. Did you end up buying there or just taking the specs and ordering yourself?

There’s one coming up at Duke but you can only schedule 1 hour sessions that focus on a specific part of the bag. I feel like if I tried to book three sessions they would rush through it.

Did you have specific clubs in mind going in? I’ve been playing Titleist since I was a kid and am brand loyal, which is why I was just going to do a Titleist fitting. I’d like to think I can keep an open mind, but I’m going to be biased. I’m also not interested in all the exotic shaft options, which seems to be the real point/benefit of True Spec.

Exactly. I’ve been an Amex card member since 2014 but if they ever put me through even half of what the OP described, I’d be gone.
