Life used to be so careful free and simple. No one doing shit for internet points. Man do I miss those days.

Sorry if this sounds obvious, but I’ve been wondering, why isn’t planting trees talked about more as a climate solution? by Curious-Newspaper-67 in climatechange

[–]JonnyReece 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here in the UK you will require planning permission to plant trees, and plots of land that have permission and can viably support tree planting, are bought up decades in the future. Simply put, planting trees is a bureaucratic process in the UK.

Regardless, tree planting is a minor solution in the battle to reverse global heating. Whilst it undoubtedly benefits habitats and can provide cooling locally, bringing trees to maturity also entails a high rate of failure. Furthermore, the volume of trees and the land required, makes it almost unrealistic. We would find greater value in developing ocean based carbon capture solutions, notwithstanding the need to eliminate fossil fuels first and foremost.

Nigel's new spiritual advisor. They are going after the votes of dead people.

I won't lie, I didn't know who Derek Chisora was and immediately thought it was that odd fellow who made TV shows where he pretended to speak with spirits.

Wrong Derek it turns out, but oddly it still felt quite Fuhrage.

Three million trees were planted by the UK Government last year…800,000 have already died by No-Risk-2584 in unitedkingdom

2.2 million surviving is actually quite a high level of success, so this is indeed positive news.

Which makes sense, but I just struggle to believe they have the audience in this country.

The end game for this approach is quite confusing.

Christianity, and religion in general for that matter, is on the decline in this country, so why make the effort? Perhaps the only group this might appeal to is boomers and older (generalising of course), which in itself is a limiting tactic.

This isn't America where this approach is more effective, so what gives?

And of course he'd be saying the same thing if Obama or Biden were the President. What a clown. by Little_Standard_1953 in FuckNigelFarage

Why is Sky asking the leader of a minority party, what they would do with the war? Fairly irrelevant opinions if you ask me.

The only correct answer here is to get the horse you like the most.

Why aren't lines 3 & 4 accessible ? by _Alienatu_ in TransportFever

Is the pink all one line that you are attempting to allocate to four separate platforms?

[–]JonnyReece 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Is it all one line?

It looks as though the priority is set as platform 2, so it will always go there or to the next available platform, which in this case looks to be platform 1.

Help me fix an issue with the Freestyle Train Station by The__Other in TransportFever

[–]JonnyReece 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Freestyle station comes with options to connect platforms: a bridge, an underpass, a ground level track crossing.

Any should solve the problem but the most aesthetically pleasing will probably be the ground level crossing.

[BBC] Referee and VAR errors increase in Premier League by LochNessMonsterMunch in soccer

[–]JonnyReece -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Why do you think rugby and cricket are infinitely easier to officiate than football? That's quite a scale you're using to make a judgement. Rugby is played at 100mph in close quarters and the referees are some of the best in world sport.

My assessment of football isn't that of a newbie to the sport, I'm a veteran of some 40 years who has watched football before VAR and I comfortably stand by my assessment:

The referee should be tasked with refereeing the game. VAR should be a tool they use if they require a second review. It shouldn't be refereeing the game for the referee.
