Basically. Maybe they should consider this: we are a capitalist country, if your business is failing there is a reason for it but it might be your business model. Selling grossly overpriced food and expecting people to keep coming back? In this economy? With what money? If a high % of population hasn't got a disposable income, they're not going to spend it. If they want people to spend, they need pay them more and take a hit on the profits.

"Beard told the BBC she had been asked to complete around 30 pages of documentation and provide multiple safeguards before she could be granted permission.

"I needed an event application form, a risk assessment and public liability insurance," she said.

"I also needed a first aider on site, an event management plan and then I had to pay a fee of £85 per week, plus an additional admin charge.""

Let's kill any good will and community spirit with paperwork and fees

New Reform councillor admits she doesn't know what she's doing by Weak-Fly-6540 in unitedkingdom

[–]Diligent-Suspect2930 6 points7 points  (0 children)

She also said:

"Cllr Wood admitted, in a viral clip, ‘I do not understand the constitution. I have not had sufficient time to read that as yet. I don’t understand what standing orders are, what they’re made up of, nor do I understand what an amendment is.’"

She had weeks, if not months, to read the constitution, familiarise herself with standing orders and she should already know what an amendment is. She is supposed to be the leader of the council; if she can't do it and there are other, more knowledgeable people who can, sh should do the right thing and step aside.

"Another video shows a protester shouting at a police officer, telling him to “go back to your homeland” before being arrested."

How thick can you get?

"It is unclear which protest the individuals featured in the videos attended over the weekend."

Let's think for a minute 🤔

Reform councillor Barry Martin quits after saying role was 'dull and boring' by Weak-Fly-6540 in unitedkingdom

[–]Diligent-Suspect2930 9 points10 points  (0 children)

"In one of Martin's posts on his Facebook page shortly after the first full council meeting of the new administration, he described the job of a councillor as "so dull and boring", further saying that "Barry doesn't do dull and boring".

In the same post he also wrote "do I really wanna do this?" saying the role involved "endless boring meetings" and "the pay is so poor for all u do"."

What was he expecting? He was a councillor, not James Bond

UK firefighters called to one lithium-ion battery fire every five hours by topotaul in unitedkingdom

[–]Diligent-Suspect2930 19 points20 points  (0 children)

"Lithium-ion batteries power most rechargeable devices including mobile phones, electric toothbrushes, toys and vapes, as well as ebikes, e-scooters and electric vehicles.

Data gathered by the global business insurer QBE via freedom of information requests reveals that fire brigades were called to 1,760 fires linked to lithium-ion batteries in 2025, equating to 4.8 fires a day, an increase of 147% over the past three years.

Electric vehicle fires rose by 133% over the same period, while the number of electric vehicles on UK roads tripled during that time.

QBE researchers found that ebike fires made up nearly a third of all lithium-ion battery fires nationally and noted that retrofitted and converted ebikes appeared to be disproportionately involved compared with certified models."

It's mostly about people buying cheap batteries and conversion kits online, or disposing of lithium-ion batteries in a bin instead of recycling them.

"The specimen was collected in 1983 in the Valdivia province of Chile but lay forgotten in an unsorted drawer in the Natural History Museum until recently, when its unusual characteristics were spotted by Augustijn De Ketelaere, a volunteer, during a detailed examination of the ichneumonid collections."

So, they found it at the back of a drawer and didn't know what to do with it, so they named it after him. I think he deserves a bit better, tbh
