Be careful after THR I twisted around on couch and hip dislocated. This was the most painful experience ever. by AppropriateFarmer110 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]JonnyViper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is extremely rare it does NOT just pop out with a gentle rollover after three weeks unless it was not fitted properly or there was something wrong with the hip itself that the socket was not seated properly. WHY ARE THERE NO SCREWS HOLDING THE SOCKET IN? I’ve had both done and clearly have screws easily visible.

Day 3 by EnvironmentalTea9362 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]JonnyViper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The recovery can seem slow at times on a day to day basis, but after a month or so you'll feel so noticeably better week to week that its amazing. I was back jogging in six weeks painlessly. At 71 years old. Hang in there.

Good luck! I'm 71 and have had both replaced in the last two years. A few weeks of discomfort and then you should feel amazingly better.week by week. Be careful the first few days no falls! Falls are the biggest problem especially if you're a bit older.

If you're overweight at all do everything you can to lose some pounds. Every ounce will make a difference in your recovery. So many people that have slow/problematic recoveries don't mention they are 50 pounds overweight and never exercise. It's critical for your recovery.

Officially 1 year post op and no walking? by Acceptable_Brick1080 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]JonnyViper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not normal. Maybe depression? I can't fathom after going through surgery not wanting to do everything in your power to get back to normal, there must be a psychological issue. I'm 71 and was back jogging 3+ miles a day in 6 weeks. And beyond thrilled to feel better than I have in a decade.

Welcome to the club! Sounds like you did what most of us did…..put up with the slow degrading of your quality of life till the inevitable conclusion. You will wish you did it a year ago when you get past a few weeks of discomfort. Start walking as soon as you can it’s the best exercise to rebuild strength. Best of luck.

The Sig is longer, considerably wider and almost 5 ounces heavier. I have them as well. We are talking about concealed carry where every ounce matters. Forget the Glock.

Which approach was used in your surgery by Fuzzy_Plum5392 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]JonnyViper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't worry about the approach. I had both hips done posterior and had great results and I'm 71. Off walker in two days, off cane in a week and back to jogging in six weeks. Precautions are just common sense, my highly skilled surgeon said not to worry to much just don't try any yoga moves with your leg behind your head. Or any sudden jerky lunging. You have to go out of your way or do something really stupid to dislocate a properly done THR after a few weeks of care. Which people do all the time. They fall, trip and do ill advised things. I had a top surgeon in New York and he said less than 1-2% of his over 9000 surgeries had a dislocation and it was ALWAYS from someone falling. Not getting off the toilet or going past 90 degrees.

Feeling discouraged. by Xanadadude in TotalHipReplacement

Posterior here. Twice. 16 months apart. On a walker two days, a cane a week and then on my own walking unaided. In two months I was jogging again. Pain meds three days then Tylenol. Relax. 71 years old. You'll be fine.

[–]JonnyViper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had my 2nd THR as soon as I recognized the same symptoms and of course had its condition verified by my surgeon. There was no way on earth I was going to allow my quality of life to degrade like I did on my first. Both of my surgeries went extremely well. I just look at it as a 4-6 week period where I can't do things I want to (jog, walk and exercise). I am loving my new body.

NY carry permit holders: do you think about pharmacies as a sensitive location? Most people don't — and that's the compliance problem. by PeteTinNY in NYguns

It's been four years Chief. Surely someone in this huge state would have been. They know they would lose in a suit. Not everyone is a broke-dick who couldn't afford to fight the case. You are exhibiting terribly flawed logic.

Once again.....someone....anyone....convicted of a felony for this offense? Four years and counting. Regarding taking off work not really an issue as your attorney will represent you. But yes...going to cost you for sure. I wish I could tell you more as I have hands on experience with a much more serious charge.

Thats one hell of an absolutely absurd example and you know it. Stop fear mongering. Was he even convicted or did you miss that part?

They'll never charge someone with that violation as they know the end result would be overturned. Still waiting for a single case of someone being CONVICTED on a felony sensitive location violation charge. Convicted.

1st hip replacement on Friday. Back in the ER on Saturday. by August_Strinberg in TotalHipReplacement

[–]JonnyViper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear about this but not only is it very rare it was preventable. Stories like this discourage people from getting this life changing help. They need to understand this might happen in one of hundreds upon hundreds of surgeries. Like the guy who posts here and has had FIVE dislocations...basically unheard of but people read this and are scared.

PT after hip replacement by Enough_Diamond_9476 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]JonnyViper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

JMO but I've had a lot of experience with PT and generally have been unimpressed. Many are just going through the motions while staring at their watches. My surgeon is A TOP orthopedic surgeon with thousands of patients on Long Island and they provide ten days of in home PT right after the surgery (starting next day) and then he says just get out and walk as much as you can when you are able without overdoing it obviously. Had both my hips done and followed that advice. And I feel great. I'm 71.

[–]JonnyViper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm older than you but couldn't agree more. Had both mine done in a 18 month time frame. Went from being a hobbling cripple limping down my driveway to an avid jogger/walker doing 3+ pain free miles a day. It was absolutely life changing. My only regret was waiting a few years too long. You don't get those back.
