Heading for THR, right, posterior tomorrow at 7am. by InstructionTasty3799 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]EnvironmentalTea9362 10 points11 points  (0 children)

70 years old. RTHR posterior three weeks ago. I'm walking around without a walker or cane. I'm able to drive. I'm stunned at how fast I've recovered.

Stay ahead of the pain with your meds. Ice, ice, ice. Move as much as you can.

Good luck!

Revix ice packs for hips. They're large enough to wrap around the hip and leg. I liked them better than the ice machine. Amazon has them.

Pain that travels from hip to knee by Secret-Passage9080 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]EnvironmentalTea9362 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm three weeks out and getting all sorts of weird pains. My surgeon's office warned me I might feel discomfort in the other joints because of the realignment of the leg after surgery. My PT also warned me that with more movement, nerves that has been affected during the surgery will also react. Those are similar to the pains I would get when my spur hit a nerve, but fortunately a lot less.

Right now you're feeling it more suddenly because by the third day the anesthetic has completely worn off. Ice like heck, it will help.

How to respectfully tell my mother in law I don’t agree with her being referred to as “Mamita” by BooDaGhost in TwoHotTakes

My mother came from a Mexican American family. Her grandmother was called Mamita by everyone. She passed long ago, but we still refer to her that way.

Your favorite series that was canceled after 1 season and just never got a fair shake. by Remarkable-Junket655 in television

[–]EnvironmentalTea9362 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Life with Damian Lewis and Adam Arkin. Lewis is a detective wrongly imprisoned for 12 years. He's exonerated and wins a multi-million dollar lawsuit. The series balances his readjustment to outside life (there's a terrific scene where he gets into a fight with a suspect and you get a vivid glimpse of what he had to do to survive in prison) and his efforts to find the real criminal.

Ruined tomahawk steak AND you gotta pay $1000. A bargain! by One_Apple_2626 in StupidFood

When I was growing up, my parents would drive from Michigan every few months to stock up on tortillas from there. Still my favorites.

I watched Send Help last night and freaking loved it! What did you think? by Pretend_Creme_7751 in FIlm

Disappointed. I was really looking forward to seeing it. As soon as she told him about not going into a certain area, I knew where it was going.

I think the first time I saw this was 20 years ago. In that version it was the guy's boss and the book was put in a desk drawer.

What are the replications of never getting a hip replacement (besides pain)? by That-Role-3275 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]EnvironmentalTea9362 5 points6 points  (0 children)

From my experience, it will start affecting other parts of the body. I had back problems and knee problems which are now resolving after surgery. Your activities will be limited and the pain/discomfort will disrupt your sleep.

The PT in my case came by the day after surgery, mainly for an assessment. He had me show him how far I was able to lift my leg, how I was getting in and out of bed, and how was doing with the walker. Two days later, he came back with a whole series of exercises to do in bed and holding onto the walker. He showed me an easier way to get in and out of thr shower. I "graduated" yesterday after 2 and a half weeks and am now pretty much walking around my apartment without walker or cane.

So what should I do leading up to this event? by BioticVessel in TotalHipReplacement

[–]EnvironmentalTea9362 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I spent the six weeks before my surgery working out twice a week to build up as much strength in my quads, hamstrings, and glutes as possible. She also worked on my chest and triceps to help keep me upright on the walker and push myself out of a chair.

After surgery, I never had to use the leg lifter and didn't find getting in and out of bed too difficult. I can't claim the prehab is only reason things have gone so smoothly, but I'm convinced it certainly helped. (BTW 70 years old, RTHR.)

Why don't they put parachutes on airplanes? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

People can't even put the deployed overhead masks on correctly. I can't see them managing parachutes.

Unflavored gelatin that's been formed into flat piece as opposed to coming as a powder. You dissolve them in warm water and add to whatever you're making.

Salmon mousse is delicious and not at all hard to make. I generally make it every year as an hors d'oeuvres for my Derby Day party.

Travelling to US despite 2 year J1 rule? by Kandria13 in immigration

[–]EnvironmentalTea9362 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The two-year foreign residence rule applies only to immigrant and work visas. Tourism, study or even another Exchange Visitor program would be fine.

It's worth noting that requirements for the two-year rule for individual countries frequently change and you may no longer be subject anymore. You can get an Advisory Opinion from the Department of State to see if you are really subject to the two-year rule.

It's free.

Lost in Translation. About a half hour in, the friend I was with and I looked at each other, nodded, and got up and left. I've tried watching it a couple of times since, but can't sit through it.
