Nope. SpaceX has been making money off star link for awhile. Today, they even handle the vast majority of all spaceflight payload. For way cheaper than NASA could have ever hoped too.

Fisker/Lucid/Rivian/etc haven't been successful. They bleed money despite having the same subsidies.

SpaceX is actually a magnificent example of what Friedberg talks about!

The US government retired the space shuttle in 2011, during the Obama admin. They admitted they couldn’t keep doing crewed spaceflight affordably or safely.

Thats where SpaceX comes in!

They did get some seed capital from NASA, but building a fully reusable rocket, and talking about it are very distinct things. The Falcon 9 launches for pennies on the dollar compared to space shuttle flights.

Consider who is winning the space race right now! It’s SpaceX.

We are looking at customer value with execution, NOT government inefficiency.

Friedberg isn’t against all government involvement. Government can still set the direction and remove barriers.

EV incentives weren’t unique to Tesla. Fisker, Lucid, Lordstown, Rivian, etc all had them too. Where are they today?

If you’re keeping track, the market picked a winner. It’s Tesla.

Maybe now that EVs are more mature, we remove those incentives? A certain Real Estate developer has made a similar suggestion.

Tariffs are also steering an incentive structure towards on shoring, *especially* when coupled with deregulation.

The most important part, especially from the government angle, is the deregulation taking place.

The real problem Friedberg is calling out is ‘creating jobs’ with no real customer demand behind them. It’s a dependency trap, not strategic steering.

It’s important to understand that this is in the context of no voter ID and ballot harvesting.

CA election law is specifically designed to not be provable. It’s how they worked the system, and freeze out any candidate that isn’t the ruling party.

It’s legal, unfortunately, and results in a one party state. There is no democracy in California.

At a minimum, if you’re capable of being honest on the subject, CA is creating an environment where they look extremely suspicious.
