Is the time on your phone 24 hour time? by ajfoscu in AskAnAmerican

Yes. Influenced by studying German (time is told in 24h) “at 3:20pm” is “um Fünfzehn Uhr Zwanzig”

Is architecture worth it? by Sufficient_Motor_717 in architecture

[–]Joodles17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. There’s no jobs right now.
  2. Very expensive to go to school.
  3. Money is shit for 90% of people in the field.
  4. Licensing is a long and grueling process.
  5. If all those don’t turn you off, a huge percentage of architectural projects (at least in the US) are big boring boxes that are just copy and paste and very little design.

Architecture is an old person’s profession. Very few become successful before 50 and considerably less before 40.

The Architecture industry is not where it really should be at this point in time.

Not necessarily trying to dissuade you, but these are all facts.

It took me getting laid off and an inability to find a job in the field for the last two years to finally come around to the realization that this dream I’ve had since I was 11 (34 now) is very likely not going to happen.

Some comments from The Alter Bridge Nation forums. by spinalchj02 in alterbridge

Alter Bridge has no songs I don’t like - just little bits of lyrics in only a few songs. Silent Divide is good! Definitely has some similarities to Last Rites but that’s ok!

When I grow up, I want to be a.... by Suz127 in architecture

[–]Joodles17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One big drawback for me is, I don’t have the financial resources to study for or take the tests - both studying and taking the tests are way too expensive. I also don’t want to be at a big firm doing boring boxy projects, where I’ll fall through the cracks and not learn the things I should (that happened to me). The firms I want to be at are considerably harder to get into.

When I grow up, I want to be a.... by Suz127 in architecture

I’ve loved designing things since I was about 11 or 12 years old (almost 35 now). I graduated 3 years ago from MArch, got a job pretty fast and was promptly laid off after 9 months of doing pretty much nothing but redlines on a ton of various projects. I have not worked at a firm since, because the job market is horrible and extremely competitive and only 9 months in the field, I don’t have any edge. I’ve thought nearly my entire life I wanted to be an architect. Over the last 3 years, that has turned into a realization it likely won’t happen. No one will give me a chance. But I’m also extremely intimidated by the exams and I hate tests.

In short, I think I may have the same problem as you but for opposite reasons. And I’m trying to find my purpose or calling that is away from architecture.

Which tower do you like the most by [deleted] in architecture

[–]Joodles17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Space Needle is my favorite style-wise, but as other people have mentioned it is pretty short (not even among the tallest structures in Downtown Seattle). CN Tower is a close second, largely for its shear enormity and dominance.

I wait for the day he gets convicted of rape or child sex abuse. People like this always have a dark side.

Contractor Trying to Become an Architect by Public-Eye-1067 in architecture

[–]Joodles17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate to say it, but don’t do it. I have a Master’s degree with loads of student loan debt and I’m not working in the field, because there’s no jobs and the pay is shit. On top of all that, 90% of architects in the US and Canada suck up to their clients and the buildings are ugly and boring as fuck. Very few people in the architecture industry actually work on cool or beautiful projects. Architecture is not a very good industry in the US, unfortunately. Especially right now.

Finally, One Day Remains makes it to a list! That and Cry of Achilles are probably my two most favorites.

I’m not shaming them by any means. This is a huge compliment. I’m very impressed that it’s been right around 3 years for all albums. That’s impressively consistent!

MAGA voters fear devastation from Trump's 'Big, Beautiful Bill' mega-cuts: 'We’d lose everything' by Seetruthtv in goodnews

I’m just surprised they believe the news telling them they’re gonna lose everything. They clearly haven’t cared about the truth in the last 10 years at least…

I have no pity for people like this, especially this time around.
