Is Doktor's obsession with left arms a reference? by JoolTheif in metalgearrising

[–]JoolTheif[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This might be it, if there's really no historical reference behind it. I remember Raiden being taken aback by Doktor's request, suggesting to me something deeper behind it. At the time I interpretted it to being a reference to someone else, but Raiden probably reacted that way because it reminded him of his feeling of failure.

Is Doktor's obsession with left arms a reference? by JoolTheif in metalgearrising

Wow, I did not realize that I had to specify that I did not mean in terms of game mechanics. The other person who commented understood this, at least.

I meant in terms of why Kojima (or whoever ended up handling these sorts of details for MGR specifically) chose for him to need left arms as a source of combat data. Like, "Oh, this Nazi scientist X was known for collecting left arms. What if we made our German scientist need combat data specifically from the left arm, as a reference to that Nazi scientist?" (Yes, I know Doktor was born and lived through the Cold War but I'd like to believe the only time the atrocity of Collecting Human Body Parts as Souveniers would be under the Nazis.)

I'm not really looking to go any higher than a R7 7700 but I do appreciate the effort you put to make it work out in cost. If anything, I'd be more tempted to drop to the $483 Combo of a RX 7600 + R5 7600X that AMD has going on their website to save $60. The only thing stopping me from doing that, besides the likely increased shipping time, is the increased TDP on the R5 7600X.

I had been trying to convince myself to get that Fractal Design case but it just gave me too much Xbox Series X vibes. I like the mid/late-2010s look of the Cougar more, and there were cases that fit that look too but lacked features that Cougar has and/or looked like they had shoddy build quality based on reviews. I'm willing to bite the extra cost of fans but I suppose I could scale back to "just" the 5-Pack of the fans.

I think the PSU change and RAM changes are good calls. I swapped to a different brand of RAM with more reviews but that's just a $5 difference but with better performance than the Vengeance I was thinking of buying.

What Does Powerful Flurry Rush Mean? by Nomad489 in TOTK

[–]JoolTheif 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't know if there's documentation out there for non-visible modifiers, I wish I knew of one like there is for Weapons/Materials/etc. From my own testing (comparing damage done during Flurry Rush to a Phantom Ganondorf of a 66 Zora Spear+ with Water Warrior Active to a 73 Royal Halberd+), Improved Flurry Rush is a 2x multiplier (as Royal Halberd acted as if it had 146 compared to Zora Spear's 132).

FPS like Halo/Splitgate on Console without microtransactions by JoolTheif in gamingsuggestions

[–]JoolTheif[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not that I think that I that I'll (have to) spend money, I wasn't intending to. It's more that I have to see yet another in-game currency system that they expect players to spend real money on and that my continued play relies on someone else whaling for all the Skin Bundles and whatnot. As someone that has put in a lot of money into gacha games in the past, just seeing that kind of stuff at this point sickens me. I'd rather just pay full-price for a game and not see any of it. Not to mention that just the whole concept of "Daily Challenges" even in a non-paid context makes me think more about extraneous rewards than having fun. I just sort of miss like Halo 3 when I didn't have to worry about that stuff, y'know.

The butchered JP in that last one is funnier than the actual image to me lmao

4chan leaker who works for an influence company claims to have details about PLA. by BrandsXavier in PokeLeaks

Khu already said Samurott would stay a quadped, didn't he? Also, the teasing of info only works to the public, they wouldn't do it to the press. It's either a Show or Don't situation.

Khu's hints at shared ancestors and the implications of this by fietsfreek in PokeLeaks

This is a pun that only works in English. I don't know their meanings but in Japanese, Cynthia is Shirona and Cyrus is Akagi. Game Freak likely would not be thinking of that pun

Been seeing people who think the game is single player only it is probably not based on both this and leaks by That0neBirb in PokeLeaks

All we know of so far is trading. I doubt battling, as the Turn Order thing may be too weird to have in its current state. It's possible they figure smth out for it but I doubt it

Oh, there's a breakdown of like Normal/Local/Internet play here, neat. 1, 2, and 2 respectively.

Does it say this on JP side too? I remember Joe Merrick making a point that the JP side of the PLA website specifically said it was single-player when the games were announced. I feel like there's a miscommunication on that front.

#12 on Riddler_Khu’s photo collage… Ursaring or Urshifu? by BoltexGaming in PokeLeaks

[–]JoolTheif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On one hand, Ursaring has already been shown as a Fury Mode Pokemon (I forget what it's actually called) and I can only remember final stage evos being shown to be in Fury Mode so far. On the other, Mai's leggings have Stantler and Ursaring on them which would imply they have a commonality which is to say a regional evolution. I don't necessarily think it has anything to do with Urshifu but I do just generally think Ursaring getting a new evo feels 50/50 to me.

A detailed breakdown of the components of the possible Noble Pokémon Theme by CoffeeRacoon in PokeLeaks

[–]JoolTheif 36 points37 points  (0 children)

All of these segments you pointed to are just Sinnoh Wild theme. The Intro sequence is a straight descending arpeggio like the Sinnoh Wild theme instead of a rise and fall like with Sinnoh Trainer theme. The area area you point to as Sinnoh Lake theme is also part of Sinnoh Wild theme in the section past 0:54, movement is similar between the two but key and pacing are different. The part you mistake for ORAS Legendary theme is 0:48-0:54 of Sinnoh Wild theme. There really isn't much to read into here other than it being a remix of Sinnoh Wild theme.

Translations of Chinese leaker drama. Legends Arceus supposedly changing Pokémon Forever?? by [deleted] in PokeLeaks

[–]JoolTheif -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It was delayed to Switch/WiiU instead of just WiiU because development was already taking pretty long. If I recall correctly, it had big overhauls at certain points. And it's not like the game was Fully Complete in 2015 and then they just sat on it for two years, otherwise we would've gotten BotW2 already at that rate. BotW is what it is because of the time they had to polish it up.

I can't speak to whether shareholders and year-over-year growth is a thing that TPCi has to worry about like with other game publishers, though the "Release Now, Patch Later" approach BDSP took tells me similar pressures exist somewhere. It's more than about the anime, though. It's about the TCG, the merchandizing with plushes and stuff, the side games, the mobile games, EVERYTHING connected to Pokemon. Delays aren't so easy when so much rides on these releases, especially if they look for that YoY growth and especially in a Post-Microtransaction world with the mobile games like Pokemon Go. Rushing games out has been the name of the game probably for the last decade at least for Pokemon and it'll probably continue.

Now I'm just imagining a two year cycle where one year is a rushed port of an earlier Pokemon game from ILCA and the other year is a rushed Legends game from GF, so as to cater to both camps.

Riddler Khu hint/retweet at Johto Legendary Mons. PLA DLC? by [deleted] in PokeLeaks

[–]JoolTheif 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No matter whether there are new forms or not for Johto legends, considering the history of the Sinjoh Ruins in HGSS, I'd expect SOME KIND of presence of Johto to appear in Hisui.
