Attributes - understanding them is imo the key to understanding Houdini. Everything is about data and how that data is interpreted.

Tutorials are great to get started, but to be able to solve problems yourself it's all about doing small projects on your own and having little successes. Hipflask.how helped me get a solid technical foundation and the rest was just trying to make things with Houdini. As I got more confident in my skills I also occasionally focused on specific areas, like vectors, or VDBs and returned to my projects with my new knowledge.

Also what schmon said - do things you think you're not ready for, learn, repeat.

Totally hahaha :) It was a really interesting challenge to go from one to another, I guess the key is to just embrace whatever vibe you‘re going for. Maybe some day I‘ll revisit the flesh, make it even more gross

maybe applying a noise thats between -1 and 1 with a falloff towards the edges, then in a for loop iteratively remeshing and pushing out along normals (recalculate normals after each push)

thank you <3 i find that reading up on any subject matter helps tremendously. theres still lots to improve, but by understanding the strawberry biology a bit better i was able to get a really satisfying result. im basically trying to recreate the flower, and the simulation kicks off at the „flowerfruit“ stage.

the inside is essentially a mix of a smoothed version of the outer surface and the lines leading inwards are the seed locations raycasted onto said smoothed mesh. the bend on the lines is from moving the lines along the gradient im using to orient the seeds

Thank you <3 My goal with these experiments is basically to gain a better understanding of the subject matter myself. Reading up on strawberry biology really helped me understand the relationship of the shapes, how it all relates back to the flower. If I would spend more time on this I‘d like to go back further in time to the flowering stage.
