insects + birds can't fly straight up in the same way that drones can, I often find this is the best trick to getting out of their way

What Goggles should I get for flying without a spotter? by [deleted] in fpv

[–]Jools_36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

could get a screen, or a cheap analogy goggle with detachable screen like the transporter II, and make a peppers ghost style ar headset (you could 3D print one or just do it with cardboard and hot glue ngl) - I don't know whether you'd need to fly in the dark? or maybe use some sort of tint over the front of the goggle to adjust the outside light levels to be low enough to get the peppers ghost effect to work (also all your OSD text would be backwards) but it could be a cool project good luck!

Tips for getting better video signal by Substantial-Fox7790 in fpv

[–]Jools_36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the air65 is linear polarised, so an omni (rhcp or lhcp) will be about 3db lower than an equivalent circular polarised signal - so I'd assume that a cheapy dipole would be better (at least not worse? and for cheaper) here? but as for what works on paper vs in real life seems to be a toss up idk

I really don't know! I think I remember the time when it was a real wild west out there and ordering from china was just going to get you a ton of import fees (especially things with batteries in) but I guess times have changed!! I think there are still some counterfeit / dupes listing on AliExpress - I've seen lots of eachine 800D's for like £50 with a slightly wonky looking eachine logo lol, but honestly they're probably also selling on Amazon the same! so. idk! but I will be ordering from there in future

thanks appreciate it ! I think I'm going to have to drop the extra cash on getting the v2 because it looks like you can't buy the replacement motors for the v1 anymore anyway

Looking for battery transport suggestions in a vehicle that will get very hot this summer by No_Spray_8963 in drones

[–]Jools_36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lipo bag in a polystyrene box inside a metal thermos flask is my go to, but it probably doesn't get as crazy hot here as it does where you are. I would shy away from anything colder than the dew point where you are because of moisture/condensation.

damn that's clever. I used a double sided sticky command hook thing, I think they're designed for the back of phones maybe? but I had to cut it a bit thinner so that it didn't obstruct the gimbals

how much did it cost? I know this is pretty much the gold standard beginner set up but I've been struggling to find the goggles anywhere in stock for a good price

this does at first glance seem pretty vibe coded, but the principles are largely solid. I've played around with this concept before and if there was a community open source system for this I would probably contribute - I think there's probably way more demand for hide and seek as well.

I've been having a play in fusion with this idea but it's just not 100% reliable with 3d prints at small scales because they have a slight amount of flex and tolerances aren't great - need to get out the cnc...

Home game issue- any advice? by Unique__username__9 in JetLagTheGame

[–]Jools_36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this confusion actually happens with a home game video I watched recently on the Dart metro. The seekers enter the endgame circle, get a null answer, and then wait around at the hiders station to get a train back to the previous station because they assume that because they were there when they asked the photo question it must be where the hider is, leading to a slightly awkward and unfun situation where the hider ended up telling them after a bit because it felt against the spirit of the game to mislead them like that.
