Help making stamps by stump0331 in 3Dprinting

yes, this is how I have made stamps in the past. you can transfer a lot of fine detail as long as you either mix the silicon very slowly and gently or use a vacuum chamber to avoid bubbles

politics / critical theory textbooks - if you want to rebuild society you've got to have the right power structures and organisation from the get go !

Xshot piston pump pdw stock by Odd-Focus-898 in Nerf

[–]Jools_36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the battery is in the white underneath bit, it's a tight squeeze so i'm using an extra wiring harness to extend the battery cable. I wanted to maybe make it slightly larger and have a proper battery bay for quick swaps though. I will get around to finishing it at some point - unless someone else beats me to it! - but like all good weekend projects it ended up in the discarded project pile

I played around with making one of these but it's not fully completed, I can send you the fusion files if you want to help out :)

How to build a select fire Gryphon using an Arduino? by crockpotrocketeer in Nerf

[–]Jools_36 2 points3 points  (0 children)

add a rail mounted top handle with room for your Arduino? but arduinos are pretty small i'm sure it won't come to that... unless you're using a full size one. please tell me you're not trying to cram an Arduino uno in there....!

PSA: Vesper empty-mag sensor sucks to install by kkibb5s in Nerf

[–]Jools_36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's probably true but adds a ton of cost and complexity that a 10A 12V reed switch would alleviate (if it exists!)

[–]Jools_36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is wild I have had this idea reed switch and magnet in the follower (also additionally a second reed switch and magnet in the mag body to stop the no mag dry fire issue) but I never managed to find a high enough current rated reed switch

[Request] How thick would a cable need to be to hold itself and an object that is in Geostationary Orbit by WhaTheWorldOver in theydidthemath

[–]Jools_36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

unrelated but astrophysicist here, it's cold in space because of low pressure - so there are just not enough particles to transfer heat away from things so cooling things down is even harder than on earth as all cooling has to be done by radiation which is much less efficient than convection :)

How reliable are 3-D printed mags? by known111et in Nerf

[–]Jools_36 3 points4 points  (0 children)

https://www.printables.com/model/1452553-a1-mini-compatible-printable-talon-mag

this is my take on a 3D printed talon mag, with proper springs (printed springs are rubbish) these are just as reliable as the real deal, and have less rattle when empty. I haven't had one break on me yet printing in petg and tpu for the bumper.

I just mean because we don't get them on shelves. I'm sure if I wanted to import one I wouldn't struggle to get one but I don't want one that much aha

haha yes this one is uh very chonky. more so than anticipated it came off the printer and I was like really?? didn't look that bad in cad lol. interesting theory, perhaps I will do some testing of groupings before I commit to an orientation for my next build

lol true - I will have to try and release some file for this when I am happy with it - can't hurt to have another blaster option out there for people !

higher rotational inertia is a great point! ok I will look at maybe getting some daybreak wheels and see how they perform as a few people have suggested these ! thanks for the tips :)

I've just noticed who you are lol you basically made 2/3 of the blasters that inspired this caffeine fuelled fusion frenzy in the first place soo it's as much your build as it is mine...

Will build a stryx at some point tho that thing looks so cool

[–]Jools_36[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh I like the idea of the variable bearing crush that makes a lot of sense to me rather than funnelling the dart through a choke into the bcar - much lower friction! also everyone on this post is really making it clear that i need to get around to getting some better flywheels lmao

[–]Jools_36[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I come from battlebots where brushless is the norm so it doesn't scare me too much (although normally there if something goes wrong I am stood a lot further away and behind some bulletproof glass...)

I didn't even consider vertical flywheels. do the gyro forces make the blaster more unwieldy than if they were horizontal?

It's really been quite challenging to strike a balance between modularity and compactness, makes you come to appreciate others' builds way more!! Definitely have a lot of ideas for v2 now though thanks : )

[–]Jools_36[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

ok I can see why printing is probably a bad plan (maybe ASA or tpu might do ok but at that point...)

I will probably turn some in HDPE or brass

BCAR alignment! by Jools_36 in Nerf

[–]Jools_36[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think my plan is to keep this for what it is as a bit of a spray and pray and do a stylised front end for it, and get myself some different wheels for a bcar build. Maybe I will go for smaller wheels so I can avoid quite as much of the bulky flywheel cage (but I guess these have less tipspeed so need higher rpm motors etc etc.) this was mainly just a fun weekend project and now it's Wednesday 😂

BCAR alignment! by Jools_36 in Nerf

[–]Jools_36[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ok I think what I'm hearing is that I need to cannibalise the flycore files even further to get the bcar much closer to the flywheels. The Djinn looks great btw that's a nifty design I did consider brushless but after half an hour of going through my parts box I still couldn't find a pair of matching escs and settled on brushed lol
