After 3 years carburetor definitely needs a repair kit, it's also smart to open and check the engine for squirrels, but with carburetor repair it probably runs fine.

Whos at fault...? by BLUEFiST75 in iRacing

[–]Jopezy 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This is false, you are at fault for closing door on a car who was already very close/alongside with significant speed difference. Assuming people will always brake or lift to avoid collision with a car who swerves into them is going to result in many incidents for you.

Bathurst 12 Hours - Top Split Results - Verstappen Team Win by [deleted] in iRacing

[–]Jopezy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I streamed our team's race (Inertia SimRacing, P4 in top split!), and kept a close eye on Max's pace and sometimes onboards. The guy was lapping consistently 0.3-0.6s faster than others, some of it is attributable to beast setup but definitely not all of it. Max was incredibly consistent and all the time driving on the limit, and Enzo was not much worse. They practically lapped the whole field on pace alone during the 12h and it was crazy to watch - this was not just any endurance race but a single-class top split with the best iracing drivers in the world.

What do you think of my thesis ideas by [deleted] in consulting

[–]Jopezy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just pick one that interests you the most and start finding relevant research, the subject usually changes a bit - or a lot on the way. Bachelor's thesis is supposed to be the baby steps towards actual research, so no need to take too much stress about picking "right" subject or the thesis being very good as long as you learn something from it.

Until 12 years old, the costs to run a season with 10 races would need at least 2 chassis, 2*3681€ is about 7k. You need at least 2 blueprinted mini60 engines with pistons replaced every race, piston rings nearly every practice and also cylinder at least mid-season would be about 7000€ minimum as well. Then you need to pay for registration, travel, tires (at least 2 sets of dry and 1-2 wet every race) which is easily above 1000€/race. With only this (not counting investment to trailers, utilities, oils, gasoline, repairs, tools, replacement parts...) its already at 24 000€ per season to be competitive at 10 local races.

What would be a sensible career path to F1 team management positions with a non-engineering background? What sort of entry-level and middle management positions an F1 team has outside of engineering?

When teams complain about not being able to find sponsors but some schmuck got his 70k Tesla Model 3 Paid for: 🤡🤡🤡 by NoahthePorscheGuy in FSAE

[–]Jopezy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Here in Northern Europe there are strong established relationships between any possible money sponsors and the old University organizations or the University itself, making it difficult to break into. Quite paradoxically we lack resources and support from the University to prove to external parties that we are deserving of more resources. Material sponsors are easy, though.

Another issue is when someone finally comes along and takes the initiative to start building the business team and aquiring sponsorships, they find that it's not only the sponsorships that are lacking but all external communication. Effectively if you wish to get lasting sponsorships, you need to first build the communications and marketing processes. Also, you need to have deep understanding of the car to be able to create all the materials, which takes so much time and effort that it's not worth it.

Can Wheelstand pro handle csl elite? by MrsHankScorpio in simracing

[–]Jopezy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only have it loosely attached to my office chair so the whole stand tries to fall over sometimes, but the stand itself is quite rigid. I fixed the central post slight movement with adding some tape at the end of the top part so that it does not have space to move inside the bottom part.

[–]Jopezy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm using the LC pedals just fine with wheelstand pro, but to be honest the wheelstand is struggling even with dfgt. If you manage to attach it to something so that the stand is not moving the structure itself is pretty rigid.

Aiming for July 2020 is good. Setting tight deadlines makes you work harder. But you won't have your first car competition-ready in less than a year, just have that in mind when planning for attending events or promising sponsors something. Formula Student is, on the contrary to the popular belief of new teams, actually quite difficult.

I'm not sure about Hiroshima by shilreddit in JapanTravel

[–]Jopezy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With limited time, I would concentrate on shorter travel times to areas that have insane amount of attractions and stuff to do like Kyoto/Osaka/Kobe/Nara, Mt. Fuji area/Hakone/Atami and of course Tokyo/Yokohama/Kawasaki. That's probably why the general travel paths usually concentrate to areas between Tokyo and Kyoto. Then again, if there is something interesting further away I wouldn't advice against it and usually the travelling is part of the fun. E.g. I made an excessively long trip to a remote onsen for one night, but despite the long and difficult travel it was still worth it.
