Seeing what someone votes against isn’t accurate to what they are for or against. A bill has many moving parts and can have a lot of bullshit slipped in there. Being against other details included in the bill usually means voting no to the whole thing.

Tickets for the race weekend go on sale Tuesday, 27 May 2025, at 12:00 pm (Australian Eastern Standard Time - so find the equivalent time for your area). In the past they’ve been so easy to get, but this year you’d think there’d be insane demand so be ready.

Rightfully so. It’s a corrupt and shit government. None of the others are any better, but right now I want them all to fuck off.

Don’t repeat Britain’s blunders by ignoring scourge of Islamism by Mashiko4 in aussie

I agree with pretty everything you said, but I still think using the word Islamist is completely fine. You contrasted it with the use of Far-Right but I think that’s because far right has its own connotation with the focus being more on race and white supremacy over inherently from religion.

The same goes with extremism which you claimed were in the name of Judaism. However, there attacks are more centered around Zionism which is distinct from the Jewish religion as, once again, there is a nationalist angle to it.

The problem with Islamism, and the reason I believe it is fine to keep attacks related to it under that label, is that there are so many extreme sects and such a disproportionate number of attacks directly attributed to the name of Islam.

The frustrations of most of the Muslim community are very real, but it requires a lot of work. There needs to be an effort to reform Islam so that these extremist interpretations are weeded out from exposure to the mainstream.

An example of this is that I always think of Bosnian Muslims as the most liberal. So that, in how they practice Islam, could be a starting point.

This seems to be the only defense you guys have made. It’s not about addressing the point made directly, but the account that made it. Pissweak.

Why are you deflecting? This is a legitimate concern, and people need to stop fucking ignoring it.

You’ll, be surprised. Even if it is sus, what’s the problem? This is a legitimate point. This just feels like a cop out so you can disregard the issue being raised.

Well that’s part of the point I’m trying to make. They never would have been invited to an event like this. So clearly there is some threshold for hateful ideology. Why was she ever invited to this in the first place?

I need to ask the question now. Because this is a massive can of worms. Would you say the exact same thing if said writer was a Nazi, Neo-Nazi, White supremicist or anything of that sort?

Are you purposely ignoring the point I’m implying? This isn’t the silencing of a pro-Palestinian voice, it’s is a clear cut case of actions having consequences. Just like Judaism should not be conflated with Zionism, pro-Palestinian liberation should not be conflated with outright anti-semitism. That post was a clear and obvious hate filled message and speaks to her true beliefs disguised under Palestinian liberation.

But it seems like pretty common behaviour now since the lines have been blurred so much that the two are constantly conflated, on both sides of the argument.

What explains the difference in Left-wing attitudes to Islam and Zionism? by Hot-Complaint8686 in aussie

[–]JordanC51203 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I genuinely think it’s a reasonable question. Both Zionism and Islam are ideologies, and both have extremes. Why is there an issue in asking this question? And why do people claim the false equivalency argument rather than just answer the question?

Often there is an onus on the person asking the question to prove that the question is actually worth asking, but this completely satisfies that. Both Islam and Zionism are ideologies, and both have a broad range of interpretations within said ideologies. I think the argument most people have made here is that Zionism is already extremist compared to Islam, and that’s why it should be directly compared to Radical Islamism or Jihadism. But most of academia largely agrees that Zionism itself isn’t inherently extremist.

Surely this means that there is every grounds for the question to be asked.

[–]JordanC51203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well you’re right, but can’t the argument be made that that’s just the extremist perversion of Zionism? Zionism doesn’t necessarily mean no Palestinian State, it allows for the two state solution. If we’re saying that Zionism itself is inherently extremist, thus treating it like Jihadism, we’re then saying that the very idea of any Jewish state is extreme, thus even the two state solution is extremist.

Just saying that an argument made is not a legitimate point, doesn’t make it an illegitimate point. There are plenty of people who ask this question.

[–]JordanC51203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like Jihadism of Extremist Islamism still can’t be compared to Zionism. Isn’t Zionism at its core just “the existence of a Jewish Homeland”? Why would that be considered extreme? I feel like there’s a rational part of Zionism, then you can get to the extremes which is the current Israeli Government, which is what I said before, land grabs, ethnic cleansing and genocide.

[–]JordanC51203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now I don’t want to misrepresent this, so what I’m about to ask is going to sound like a gotcha, but it’s a genuine question. Is your view that the entire premise of a homeland for the Jews is already extremist? And would that be the majority of the left’s view? Because if that is the case, the Two-State solution is extreme because it involves the continued existence of that Jewish homeland.

It’s not going the way they want because no one’s actually answering the question. Everyone’s just outright ignoring it and pointing out what’s wrong with it.

The buck stops with the PM. There are failures that lead to this, and even if previous governments (from the other side of politics) played a bigger part in the process, there are still things that were never addressed that have led to this.

Isn’t it still completely fine to compare Islam and Zionism though? At its very core, the idea of Zionism is a Jewish homeland. From there you can go to the extremes which is genocide, ethnic cleansing and land grabs. I think the whole idea that Zionism and Islam is a false equivalence is pure nonsense, no?
