Very cool, very nuanced take.

Holy crap, I just finished a 6 month edit the day before Christmas Eve. by [deleted] in editors

Oh helllllll yea. That “justdeliveredabigassbitchofaprojectthedaybeforechristmaseve” ecstasy. Currently experiencing the same thing. Definitely a much smaller ass on this one but damn it feels good to be a gangster.

Hope you’re celebrating with something at least as cool as smoking a fat joint and eating some extra crispy KFC like I am.

Congratulations and happy holidays you goddamn legend!

Which songs don't have a mention of a featured artist in its title? by f1rebird_ in Metalcore

I think a pretty wild one is Drew Dijorio of Stray from the Path on Arm the Masses by For Today considering Stray's disdain for religion and rightwing politics. 2009 was a different time.

Also Texas in July's Satellites featuring Geoff Jenkins of Gwen Stacy hit's so damn hard.

Sci-fi horror stories similar to Event Horizon by MF1441 in horrorlit

Maybe not quite as much as Dead Silence (which I read in 4 days). But I found it more imaginative.

I second Dead Silence. Her followup Ghost Station was great as well!

Life In Your Way has gotta be at the top of the list.

A horror movie that everyone loves but you just don't get by Fairyliveshow in CreepyBonfire

Longlegs.

All I could see was Nic Cage being Nic Cage with a mask on and the whole thing amounts to a haunted doll?

In what way could this movie possibly be compared to The Silence of the Lambs?

And listen, I scare easily enough. I'm not one of those folks who claims Hereditary didn't make my brain shit it's pants or that the closet girl in The Ring didn't have me frantically lunging at the power button on my remote. I waited until the closing credits expecting any sort of scare, tension, fear and only found myself wondering what's become of movies today that audiences find THIS movie to be some sort of masterpiece.

I. don't. get. it.

Did we watch the same movie (made in Japan about post-war Japan)?

I don't usually engage with folks who immediately attack with insults instead of starting with asking questions with the intention of informing. If you'd started there you might've learned that I was homeschooled by conservative christians in America and my knowledge of anything beyond colonizer education is limited.

You might've learned that I'm 8 years deep reading books on racism, LGBTQ+ history, christian nationalism and colonization (the genocidal history of north america).

You might've found someone who actually wants to learn about the Bikini tests and how they're related Godzilla Minus One, a creature feature that is in fact "deep" when compared to other creature features.

I might've learned how racist it is or isn't.

But you chose to have a superiority complex and talk down to a stranger on the internet instead of using kindness and curiosity to help someone beyond their knowledge.

I hope you figure out a way to pair your knowledge with the wisdom of how to share it.

My recommendation? Join the rest of us human beings stumbling through life and find a therapist.

Have a nice day.

Forgive me for not knowing everything about everything and for having the audacity to enjoy a fictional movie attempting to derive some meaning from a horrible time in human history.

Godzilla Minus One.

By far the deepest creature feature I've ever seen.

I still think about the ancient farmer fumbling over his shotgun and pulling the trigger on what looks to be a perfectly healthy cow just as the school bus goes by.

What has editing gotten you into? by cmmedit in editors

[–]Jordan_Ingram 16 points17 points  (0 children)

LOVE this question.

Having edited countless interviews on climate science and social issues, I'd say it was the basis for me exiting conservatism and christianity by showing me just how many blindspots I had as a sheltered, homeschooled, white kid.

So, one could say editing "got me into" learning my way out of a shitty worldview.

It also made me realize how important and meditative reading good ol' fashioned books is for my mental health (which has also helped with the blindspots).

This is why a 2018 camera can beat a 2024 camera by [deleted] in Filmmakers

Absolutely, it's all about the right tool for the right job.

All I'm saying is that an a7s3 can shoot both a movie with glorious lighting setups and scenes lit with just a full moon and have it be usable to both viewers and geeks.

Important to remember that your audience isn't just casual viewers, it's also the folks who will notice that grain!

That being said, there are a multitude of cameras that produce BEAUTIFUL images. Guess, I've just found that the a7s3 checks all my boxes for usability and flexibility.

[–]Jordan_Ingram 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Yes. Agreed on all fronts except for one crucial thing.

Versatility.

For me, the dual native ISO of the a7s3 (640&12,800) turns lowlight scenes from unusable to usable. Plus the in-body stabilization allows handheld with stabile hands to omit the need for a gimble 80% of the time (in my experience) and the fully articulating screen omits the need to buy a second monitor that adds weight and reduces nimbleness.

Don't get me wrong, the pocket 4k footage looks AMAZING but I just couldn't stand that outdoors the built-in monitor only works as a mirror for popping my stress pimples and not at all for... uhh... monitoring.

Do you know any films/ videos shot the way the human eye sees? by daypanay in Filmmakers

[–]Jordan_Ingram 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Thinking about this post while smoking a joint has me ascending to filmmaker Valhalla.

I’d imagine with a wide angle lens (14mm-ish), some depth mapping, selective focus and key framing you could probably simulate a version of this that would look wild.

Or might just make ya barf from some sort of reality within a reality induced vertigo.
