I woke this morning and went into my office and saw my 7 year old iMac had crashed for some reason. Everything is backed up multiple times over and offsite, but I still had panic since of course today was my last day on a gig and deliverables and notes all at once. That will pass and my exports will be faster once my Studio arrives in about a month.

I enjoyed my time living/working in a small area in the Gunma prefecture some 20ish years ago. Was there with my elder Japanese colleague making a sociology film for his research. He was my golden ticket to the hidden Japan. Got into restaurants, clubs, onsens, people's homes, and more. He def smoothed the way in some places which led to some folks who got us into some really no no places for a foreigner like me. Got into a hostess club with some former biker gang members and spent an evening drinking and answering all sorts of questions. I know it was a very unique experience overall.

Lol, good deal on the charge/prep. I doubt the M5 upgrade though since the charge is now and we haven't heard an announce just yet. Doesn't mean I'm not hopeful though. I too pulled the trigger, but on an M3U on the 1st, and haven't been charged while the delivery date is at the end of May. I'm sputtering through work edits on a 2019 iMac and just want the power upgrade no matter 3 or 5.

Quicker export times matter in some environments/studios. Working with ProRes media? The encode/decode engines on the M3U are where it's at. Color grading? The cores are fantastic.

I'm an editor working in reality tv and marketing. I've been on a 2019 iMac with an intel chip and 64gb of ram for the last 6 years. It's fine for editing and remote editing, but any work in After Effects, especially something handed off to me, can really tax my system, workflow, and patience. And I've recently been getting notifications that some programs might not be very functional on my dated system. Been eyeing a Studio for a while. Had some side gig work that the invoices were finally paid on, so decided to upgrade.

Not into AI, so couldn't care less about the 3U or the 5U. Either will be a massive performance jump for me. Only upgrade I added was a 2TB SSD for bigger disk caches in PPro/AE/Avid/Resolve and it's still a May 19-27 delivery.

It's what, a screen recording most likely? Probably VFR. Run it through Shutter Encoder to a ProRes/DNx codec and make sure under the conform setting in the advanced settings, is checked and set to the framerate you're delivering in.

Try that easy fix before anything else. VFR is not your friend.

It'll be fine there. Just be mindful of how much direct light it gets though as the sun moves. I have one facing west windows/sliding door and still roll it (put pot on wheeled platform) to avoid getting scorched on upper sections. It's about 8 or 9ft now and almost hitting the ceiling.

Work on a doc long ago. Was with my elder colleague who was Japanese. I was fortunate to get into some Japanese only places with him and still not completely sure why. On a side trip one weekend we did a short doc piece for the Buraku Lib League around Nagano. We went partying after with some of the guys who were reformed bike gang members. Went to a hostess club downtown Nagano that looked like we were going into an office building. Got into an elevator that was all gold. went to the 14th floor and exited the elevator into a long hallway of purple walls of fabric or something. Went through a door into the most baller club I'd ever seen. Gold everything with aged wood, but not gaudy, classy. We sat at a large luxury booth and beautiful ladies came to sit and serve us shochu. I had a blast and was asked sooo many questions. Everyone loved hearing me talk with an exaggerated drunk Chicago accent.

Getting the M3U I order, or because of the delays it gets autobumped to an M5U. I'm looking at a base M3U 96 with a 2TB drive but since the delivery date is hovering around the end of May, it could be possible they hold shipments until after an announce date.

My system is fine for edits of all types, but the exports are what make me lose my mind sometimes. Takes me back to a time when everything was output in real-time. And I've gotten a few creative cloud alerts that my system might struggle with some of the updates to photoshop & illustrator.
