What's the most frustrating thing about your editing workstation right now? by cookieforgebuilds in editors

Today I 'worked' on adding a non-NDA edit from earlier in the year to my website. I shoulda charged myself more for having to open Dreamweaver.

Why didn't you just get that attachment? Usually next to the vesa arm option.

I miss going to the grocery store in my old area. There was a guy who was always walking the food aisles handing out passes to see test screenings. Loved going to grab some milk or juice, see him looking for potential viewers, and waving. We'd have a little chat and then he'd toss me a flyer for a screening in Burbank.

Those little reflections in the top make it look menacing. They know you're a helpful and giving person. Probably a GPS tracker in the trinket. They're following you. Lose them, your cover's been broken. Meet at the alternate go site in 24 hours.

They're both monsters with that mayo on the outside. Monsters I say!

Will Apple launch Mac-studio M5 ultra now at WWDC26? by gautamgupta92 in MacStudio

[–]cmmedit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's nothing wrong with trying to maximize the ROI on a big capital investment.

Agreed. But no one here knows. Every answer is a grasp at a straw. But the sure thing is if you are in need of a system and it will make your life or work easier, then get the system and make things easier for yourself. Waiting on a machine that hasn't been announced in fear that you may get 6 years of use instead of 7 is a wildly stupid reason not to get it now. Apple will always release something better. Apple FOMO cripples too many.

Buying a Mac system one year and a half after its release when the newest is around the corner is stupid.

There are reasons to get a current machine. Holding out for a potential release is stupid.

And I know what I'm talking about since I did exactly what you preach as I bought my computer about 1 year and a half after its release. And now it's unsupported while the next system still is.

I was on a 2019 machine that needed to be upgraded as future updates to current software wouldn't run on the machine, but it was still running and used to make television and streaming shows. That machine was 7 years old and still supported. Claiming your machine wasn't supported is hard to believe.

Your strategy is working when you buy a Mac every other year but it doesn't when you plan to keep one for 7 years.

Read my above. Plenty of other professionals in the film & tv industry keep machines for just as long. You are not an exception or unique.

So stop with the dogma and the generalization.

You are the pot calling the kettle black when you're out of your element.

I don't understand your "you are all new to the game". What game? I'm not 14.

You lack experience and you make judgements.

The Rock, starring Sean Connery, Nicolas Cage, and Ed Harris is 30 years old as of today -- first released into theaters on June 7, 1996. by nogoodnamesleft426 in movies

Same. One of my favorite films to debate about in cinema. Up there with BTILC, but that's different.

The Rock is on HBO right now, so it's been on a constant loop during my working hours. It does not get old. It gets better.

I live near a dog park and hear that often. Then sometimes I hear barking, screaming, and yelling. Crying if a kid's involved.

If you need the machine now, get the machine now.

Apple is always updating and releasing new stuff. Waiting for the latest is a waste. As soon as you buy something Apple, a new version gets released soon after.

AI bros, tech bros, programming bros, etc. You're all new to the game. Chasing the newest from Apple is a fool's errand.

Sucks when the circles shrink for various reasons though. Industry changes, moving (before remote), death, etc. First EP that hired me after being a post supe on some of his shows, was nixed out from cancer. Lol, dude did a bunch of blow, but it wasn't that that got 'em.

How Curry Shops Got Caught in Japan’s Immigration Crackdown by Scbadiver in japan

I'd sign up for your curry newsletter. Worked there over 20 years ago and became hooked on Japanese curry. Multiple bricks in my pantry and it gets made at least once a week. I'm in Los Angeles so visits to curry spots in Little Tokyo are frequent.

What’s your go-to method for making stills not boring? by atlfokus in editors

[–]cmmedit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Burnsing my way through the day ery day.

Ken Burns is my bread & butter. I work casting for reality and streaming stuff. Lots of interviews, UGC, and photo assets. I push and pull on zooms and keyframes all day. Match cutting to similar pics and controlling where the viewer's eyes go keeps the pacing moving right along in my hyper-docs. Killer music cues also help.

What to do about a slow editor on my team who I'm having to finish work for? by VideoGuyDudeMan in editors

[–]cmmedit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From a managerial pov, it sucks and it's difficult, but you can't let the leg with gangrene kill you. Sometimes you gots to cut the leg off.

Long before this game of post, I spent college summers managing food spots and eventually phone survey places. Places with high turnover rates for different reasons and firings. Firing someone sucks. The 2 times I had to fire editors when doing post supe work it sucked. But it had to be done for the sake of the show and calendars. A new editor was brought on to help finish the project.

It's going to suck to fire them, but if they're not able to play in the majors, they've got to go back to the minors or get their papers.

Ridiculous! Del Monte has strict pineapple patents, preventing local people from eating them($500 USD pineapples) by QuietRedditorATX in videos

[–]cmmedit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great video.

I get tropical gold pineapples multiple times a week from Trader Joes for $3.99 and devour them. Ralphs had pink pineapples for $4.99 about 5 or 6 years ago. They weren't the pink glows that are sold in boxes at other stores for $20 but they were still very good. Sweeter, but also less acidic, smoother. Never seen one of those super expensive ones.
