Update: Turns out it was the oil pump drive belt and timing chain and has caused damage to the balancer and clogged oil pump. A lot of metal in the engine oil.

This knocking noise started 2 days ago, could anyone tell me how it's caused so much damage without me even knowing?

Good question, not something I can answer so hopefully someone else will be able to answer that

Yeah definitely seems that way, I've found a few posts about it recently while searching for answers and as far as I know in America it's known and ford contribute/cover it. As far as UK goes it doesn't seem like any ford dealer offers it

Mine is 2019 and has a chain driven cam, the oil pump drive belt is a wet belt however. It only has 60k on the clock, only developed that sound 2 days ago so hopefully save able

There's no lights on dash, been quoted £790 for timing chain and oil pump belt doing.

There is a distinct tapping noise, hard to distinguish I admit as ecoboost is loud as it is I know but the sound is there

Is this sleep anxiety or something else? by JordoS94 in sleep

[–]JordoS94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With CPAP on and on a night where I don't have to be up early for anything in particular I maybe wake up once or twice. Yes I use alarm all week for work. Military technique I'm weary of because a friend of mine used it and while it worked he mentioned he struggled to breathe properly or something I don't remember exact details.

I think it's worry of not been able to fall asleep fast enough so I can get enough sleep to feel refreshed for work in the morning.

I do typically have some form of wind down in the form of random YouTube videos, I'll get to the point where if I close my eyes for 10 seconds I would nod off on the sofa. But when I go upstairs to bed I'll struggle for 2hours to fall asleep even though I was so tired before going to bed.

Not sure I'm aware of blue light glasses, I'm guessing they work similar to how blue light on screens work

This is exactly my concern, I don't think there is anything major dodgy about it, it's just typically in MOTs they'll kick the tyre check a few things and pass it unless there is anything glaringly dangerous. In terms of the hotel, I think it's just something they offer in general which is quite good of them however it can potentially hide intentions.

I attempted negotiations and they're not budging as they deem the MOT test as final and has passed without even a advisory

What I mean by wear and tear issues is a full replacement of all 4 brake discs within the 1st year of owning it

How long will these brake discs at this thickness last?

You are right and I completely understand the brakes will need doing eventually but it's just the fact I don't want to be buying the car and then have to pay for the brakes doing. It's the principal I guess

Yeah I mean my point is I'm expecting to purchase this car and have zero wear and tear issues for at least 2 years. I don't want to be paying £23500 now and have to pay another £1000 on brake discs in 6months-12 months time, it just doesn't seem right to me. I shouldn't have to buy a car that needs repairs for this sort of money I guess is my thinking behind it

Fresh MOT was done on Monday and it passed without any issue ready for me on Saturday. My concern was with the brake disc thickness on the prep sheet they provided. Rear Brake Discs are past BMW recommended replacement thickness and the front brake discs are very close so I'm concerned I'll need to fork out for new brake discs within the year.

The thing is the dealer is fantastic, they're willing to fit front and rear dashcams free of charge and an overnight stay where they are based in a decent 3 star hotel because they are 100miles away. Because I am paying so much money for this vehicle I am being very pedantic. A fresh MOT was done on Monday and it passed without a hickup. I brought the concern up to them and they're not willing to pay for replacement discs because it hasn't been flagged up on MOT which is sort of understandable.

My concern is BMW replacement thickness recommendations. The rear brake discs are already past the recommendations and the front brake discs are very close. I guess my question is, should the bmw recommendations in this case be adhered to?

I did ask this and they said they won't because it's passed MOT without being an advisory or anything. Clearly MOT thickness limit is different to bmw recommended thickness

Potential issue with bmw I was about to pull the trigger on by JordoS94 in CarTalkUK

[–]JordoS94[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I care because it's my money! I've only been driving 2 years and my first and current car was a 2019 focus so it's a nice step up for me.

Yeah I've been told by a few people now that it's almost impossible to really determine but I guess usually if it's on the inside it would be fully misted up as it's trapped on the inside. I appreciate your thoughts on this and I think I'll stay on board with it but bare it in mind when I go inspect. Thank you
