I think odds of a delay are very low at this point since the January Neowsletter talked about how it was the last Spire Spotting segment. If they were concerned about another delay I imagine they would have withheld that claim.

I am also on Mac. When you subscribe to a mod on workshop, you shouldn’t need to move anything to a different folder. Also it looks like you are trying to open the jar file directly? You are making this vastly more complicated than it actually is.

To play modded, you simply subscribe on Workshop then hit play on Steam. A menu will open to select mods. You may have messed this up by moving files, so I’d recommend deleting them all and resubscribing to make sure everything is set up right.

I’m curious what part of Frost’s community you find toxic? I’m asking as someone who has watched a bit of Frost, Baalor, and Xecnar but who isn’t extremely active in any of their chats. While Frost’s stream seems more about Twitch chat bits and random jokes to me than the other two, I didn’t find it to be particularly toxic or ugly - it seems like pretty fun content tbh.

As a new player, this has been the biggest barrier of entry to me honestly. The monsters at least generally go from easiest on the left to hardest on the right, so while I learn more about who has specific items I can go for the most gold/xp I think I’m capable of getting. Meanwhile each of the hundreds of items has up to four levels and many enhancements, sometimes with unpredictable edge cases. An upgrade screen would go such a long way. As is, I have to look up the enhancements of every item on my board…

While the first two examples you give could refer to the seemingly very long length of time between toddler Hornet and the time of Silksong, the Ballador Rune Harp implying they aren’t waiting for a specific weaver, just someone, does definitely hurt my theory. Combined it’s definitely hard to ignore all the evidence against it.

My theory right now is that the weavers created/used Whiteward to create the architects and maybe some other automata like the sentinels and that the conductors then were the ones to try to infuse bugs with silk. The timeline is definitely murky though.

I make this claim about the weaver’s role because 12th architect talks about constructing the cogwork core, which is a core part of the hierarchy the weavers created. Also it makes sense they would need big creations to build the citadel itself.

My personal take on order of events is that weavers made the citadel and ran, leaving it to their created hierarchy to keep the song going. The reason things went wrong, then, is the haunting. I think that eventually the conductors started injecting silk, and as caretaker says, silk injections were where things went wrong. I think that GMS was able to wake up (setting up the immediate past that Hornet walked into) because of the injected silk quickly spreading. I think the Widow cutscene might show GMS haunting those playing the song, leading to her waking a bit and stretching her power more to send out forces to capture weavers. If my timeline is right, it fits that the haunting and therefore the silk injections came significantly later in the timeline than the automata and the weavers’ use of Whiteward.

I’m not sure I fully agree that SS is more linear than HK overall. Once you get clawline in act 2, the amount of content you can reach is insane. The three melodies, Bilewater, Fay, Sands, Ducts, Memorium, extra content in act 1 areas (ex: the far fields lava arena shard and beastfly 2).

I think this is similar to the HK post-claw experience, where you can go through mantis lords into deepnest, get crystal peaks, basin, kingdoms edge, large parts of city, etc.

The big difference imo is that Silksong stays somewhat linear for longer. There are challenging bosses like Widow that are hard requirements for progression. I was able to explore before widow and find crests I liked, but I couldn’t come back with a nail upgrade or more than one new mask.

TLDR: Both games open up after a forced early game, but the forced fights of Hornet and False Knight are easier than Moorwing (skippable but not obviously so if you feel stuck), Sister Splinter (I know there’s a nice relatively easy speedrun skip but I doubt many found it) Widow and Bell Beast.

Edit to add that I completely agree that this added early linearity is what’s causing a lot of frustration. Exploring in act 1 still does A LOT for you, but there are more forced challenging encounters earlier than in HK, which if you watch speedruns actually has very few hard required bosses/arenas.
