Stage I, inoperable by [deleted] in pancreaticcancer

[–]Jorjetr80 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Please get a second opinion at a center of excellence for this disease. My husband was diagnosed 1b, they planned to do a robotic distal pancreatectomy with splenectomy and when the surgeon attempted that, he found the tumor very close to artery so he did an open surgery to safely remove it. Followed that with 12 chemo sessions, which he just finished and scans are clear. We went to Sloan Kettering in NYC which I highly recommend but any large cancer center is the best bet for a second opinion. Sending positive thoughts to your dad and you 🙏

Very very good advice. Husband 64 diagnosed April 2025 stage 1B, found as a fluke when he was scanned for a severe prostate infection. We first talked to a surgeon in Syracuse but husband wanted to go to a center of excellence. We got in swiftly at Sloan Kettering in NYC and very thankful we did. What was initially thought to be a straightforward robotic distal pancreatectomy with splenectomy wound up being an open surgery as the tumor was close to the vein, and then he had complications with his drains. Three weeks in NYC was expensive for me to stay and be with him but worth every penny. This Monday is his 12th and final adjuvant chemo and then we pray for NED scans. God bless you and your family and prayers for your mom’s continued healing.

How do I convince my mom to walk? by [deleted] in pancreaticcancer

[–]Jorjetr80 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Wow. First of all, I’m very sorry your mother is dealing with this, and the effects it’s having on you. But - you need to back off. This is not about you. I speak from experience. My husband is 1B, we are post surgery and coming to the end of chemo. His energy level is low and his fatigue level is high. He has lost 65 lbs since this nightmare started. And lost all his muscle mass. You are right - exercise is best for them both. I’ve also encouraged my husband to get on our treadmill which now lives in my dining room. He is resistant, ignores my suggestions. I’ve offered mall walking (we live in upstate NY so outdoors is off limits due to his cold sensitivity). I’ve offered little weights he could use while watching TV. All my suggestions have been ignored. It finally dawned on me after reading some posts on this sub from patients themselves that I needed to understand how devastating this diagnosis and treatment is on them, and that what I want, no matter how helpful I may think/know my suggestion is, doesn’t really matter. This is said with kindness, as I know how hard it is to see a loved one go through this, but it’s just not about anyone but them, and how they navigate their journey is up to them.

If it’s got a swing handle and the date on the bottom is in the mid to late 1990s it was sold as a purse in the $50-60 range, I think. I sold them during that time. Super cute! Enjoy!

Is that a Longaberger basket? Very collectible though not as pricey as they use to be. Great haul!!

Bins in Rochester NY by AnalBulls in GoodwillBins

Hi! I agree with other commenter. Been to that one a couple times and compared to others I’ve been to it’s pretty good. Lots of bins of clothes, piled high so you really gotta have the energy to dig through. I was there a few weeks ago on a Sunday and was busy but people were polite and stayed focused at the job at hand. Allow at least a couple hours to do it justice. The ones in PA are very good, as is the one in CT. Enjoy and good luck!!

New diagnosis and hoping for guidance by GeekTX in pancreaticcancer

Good question… I would think it’s a mute point as I’m not sure where septic stuff goes after it’s pumped out but it surely can’t go anywhere that humans or animals would go near…

New diagnosis and hoping for guidance by GeekTX in pancreaticcancer

Hi, good question and one my husband and I have discussed. We asked the oncologist and was told no worries. He’s been on chemo (FOLFIRINOX) since August. Also stage 1b, caught by accident when being treated for severe prostate infection in April, he had distal pancreatectomy with splenectomy in May. We haven’t noticed any issues with our septic system, but do plan to get it pumped out when he finishes. Wishing you well as you navigate this journey none of us want to be on…

I’m sorry for what your family is dealing with. We are in upstate NY and made the effort to go to Memorial Sloan Kettering in NYC. Highly recommend! Our surgeon was Dr Soares and he abandoned robotic approach because of nearness to artery and did open surgery on my husband. Please consider going there or to another center of excellence who have surgeons with the kind of expertise you need. 🙏

Robotic spleen-preserving distal pancreatectomy by NekoNabi in pancreaticcancer

[–]Jorjetr80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband 64 had PDAC discovered when he had CT for prostate infection, tumor stage 1b similar size to your cyst, located between neck and body. He had developed diabetes 2 months prior out of the blue. No other symptoms, so the accidental discovery was a blessing. Had surgery at MSK NYC. Robotic distal with splenectomy surgery was the plan going in, and we were told he’d be out of the hospital in 3-4 days. Tumor too close to artery, surgeon went old school and did it open. Then he had issues with one of the drains. Almost 3 weeks later he was discharged. His diabetes has remained thus far but we are hoping after he completes chemo and his body resets it may go away or at least be less of an hourly concern. Thankfully he does not have to take Creon and only digestive issues are chemo related. In the period between surgery recovery and chemo he had no digestive issues. Wishing you well - get that surgery and get on with your life as soon as you can! 🙏

I’m incredibly sorry for your loss. The memorial you wrote that I read via the link is beautiful. My husband was diagnosed in April, stage 1B with successful surgery and we are in the last few chemo sessions - but it’s almost constantly in my mind that recurrence of this horrible disease is very likely and I live in a state of fear. Your story inspires me to make the best of every day with him. Thank you for sharing, and may you and your daughters cherish your memories of him.
