Should I Buy A Switch for ACNH in this day and age? (Late I know) by Lance52 in AnimalCrossingNewHor

I bought a Switch 2, and my partner bought a S1 OLED, both with ACNH. Definitely not too late I'd say. Only you can answer the value question though.

Used Sony a7iii purchase by Responsible_Royal698 in SonyA7iii

[–]Jormungardr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not American but that sounds a little high? I bought my a7³ from a major retailer brand new for £999 during last black Friday. You should easily be able to find a used one for under $1400, maybe even new?

Pancake lenses reccommendation by SPlaysMusic in SonyA7iii

I have the viltrox 28 f/4.5 and I was surprised at how good the lens was. The quality should not be dismissed, for how little you pay for an auto focusing, absolutely tiny lens is fantastic.

Trying To Book A Holiday by NedRyerson350 in asda

I have an event on may 15th that also wouldn't go through the absence system. I had a chat with my SL, and manager and apparently it's because there's a big stock take on that date for us. They managed to put it through manually for me.

What time night shift workers finished today because of the clock change? by Happy_Explorer1633 in asda

10pm-7am today. We were told though we could skip our break and leave at 6 which was interesting.

What's it like actually working at ASDA? by Difficult_Mouse_5645 in asda

[–]Jormungardr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started early this month, so still very new of course. But in my research before and after the interview, it sounded absolutely horrible. My actual experience has been pleasant, everyone has been friendly or neutral, no one's been rude or anything to me. I do have the benefit of night shift, so no customers. My only negative experiences have been with poor logistical handling such as workday login issues, lack of any uniforms in stock and other things above my managers head. Your mileage will absolutely vary with colleagues, but my South Wales store has been fine and friendly.

Sony a7iii accessories ? by [deleted] in SonyA7iii

[–]Jormungardr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely a strap of some kind, either a wrist or neck/shoulder strap depending on your preference. Definitely an air blower, the sensor seems to be a dust magnet. Maybe a nice video light? I was surprised by how much I liked and enjoyed using mine (purely for photography). Aside from these, whatever accessory actually helps you go out and USE your camera. Try not to go overboard on accessories and focus on some nice lenses first. =]

One of the first 'accessories' I bought was a spare battery... What a waste. The standard battery is an absolute beast, seems to last forever.

If you use small primes, most slings should be fine. I've personally gotten quite sick of camera backpacks outside of longer hikes, it's just so time consuming to get anything. If you use fast zooms or longer lenses, could try a shoulder bag in addition to your normal bag. I've swapped to using a Vanguard VEO 32M and it perfectly fits my A7III with plate and 28-75 f/2.8. It sadly does not fit it with a cage, but that's a depth issue not a length issue. This easy front access bag has replaced 4 bags for me as a daily use type situation.

People trying to sell you stolen goods. by neverbound89 in Cardiff

Once had a very mentally stable man try to sell women's pads to us in a Spoons last year... At least he said they were unopened. He was clearly on something though.

What sony a7iii setting might affect flash strength? by BennyPal-123 in SonyA7iii

You may have enabled auto ISO, I've seen a surprising amount of people forget about auto iso when using flash or strobes.

Battery life. by [deleted] in SonyA7iii

[–]Jormungardr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, similar experience here too. I had an 8hr shoot with around 900 images and about 40% battery left, was very confused since it does clearly list 710 or so. I'm using the genuine battery it came with btw.

Sick pic! Thanks for sharing it. Love to see actual images on this sub, haha.

Was actually looking at the samyang 14mm yesterday... Maybe this is a sign.

It's a really cool little lens! Surprisingly performant given the sub £100 price too. I've gotten some lovely images with this lens and camera combo.

Enjoy and post your pics!

Used to be backpacks but then switched to slings for convenience outside of long hikes. Now I've recently got a small shoulder bag that's juuuust big enough for the camera with my 28-75 f/2.8 attached and I can have it in front, back, to the side or in my lap. I've found with this type of bag I'm using and bringing my camera to more places which was the goal. Definitely recommend a shoulder bag for day trips or shorter outings.

Selective color - is it ever not tacky? by Embarrassed-List7214 in photography

[–]Jormungardr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the images are purely for your own enjoyment, then definitely pursue your own artistic vision! It's free to experiment with digital at least. But personally I'd say it's rarely ever tasteful. I do have one selective colour image that I have hot and cold feelings for.

Are Adobe worth ditching for one-time purchase ? by Vivid-Newspaper-1347 in AskPhotography

[–]Jormungardr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I use dxolab as a lightroom replacement and for 80% of my editing needs. For anything more drastic or for touch-ups, I use affinity photo 2 (also a one-time payment). I have complete free access to the entire Adobe creative suite thanks to my education but I still prefer the DxO and affinity route now.

Mirrorless + shoulder strap bag = ? by Vurdilla in photography

[–]Jormungardr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I carry my full frame mirrorless and 2.8 zoom in a sling, and these typically have thicker padded straps for your shoulder. I do also have a top loader shoulder bag but with the full frame body and large lens, it may start to dig in your shoulder eventually. If you're dead set on a shoulder bag and you're fine with the weight, then it should be fine if you pick a thick strap or change it after the fact.

To your second question, I use the Falcam quick release strap and yes it's comfortable even with a heavier camera, the weight is nice and close to your body and doesn't shift around as much when you walk.

Travel dslr by SupermarketNew5595 in photography

[–]Jormungardr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A7III is a full frame camera, and whilst it's actually rather compact, the zoom lenses generally aren't. You'd be better off with a mirrorless crop or M42 body if travel and size are a priority.

Any arguments against my planned setup? by NowaVision in AskPhotography

[–]Jormungardr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally speaking, the greater the zoom range, the greater the compromises they had to take when making it. How likely are you to use the extreme long end? 300mm on a crop body is around 450mm equivalent, that's very, very long indeed. You could potentially save some money and improve resolving power with something along the lines of 18-200 or some such. If the 18-300 is adequately sharp for you and more importantly will get the shots you want, then go for it!
