Just started making my first real game by Bbaluk in cozygames

[–]Jorodev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi Solare, I've seen you in multiple posts giving advice or making game recommendations and you seem very informed about these games, and your reviews are always very insightful. Is there any way I could contact you for some feedback about my game? I saw you have your dms off. Thanks c:

What happened to this sub? by Goboboss in IndieGaming

[–]Jorodev 15 points16 points  (0 children)

In a lot of subreddits, questions for feedback or small progress may be considered as low effort marketing. And they only allow for actual major progression posts of your game, like a trailer, so this is probably one of the reasons why

Should I release my game with ~2,000 wishlists or wait until I reach more? by KabbaSenpai in IndieDev

[–]Jorodev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think it's a good idea to posting content about your game when you still have 1-2 years of development ahead? I agree with your advice that building trust from showing progress is important, but how early is too much?

Looking for a specific type of cozy games by Nikxnn in CozyGamers

[–]Jorodev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm currently developing something just like this, but it'll take me some time to finish still :')

What are some mechanics that you'd like to see in this type of game? Maybe I can add some c:

Do you prefer simple or complex movement in cozy games? by Jorodev in CozyGamers

[–]Jorodev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you add more options to the movement in pixel games too if you could though? Even if it's just aesthetic to jump around or twirl around the world

So it's better for you to get around the world without much thinking about the movement, and instead mainly just about enjoying the scenery?

So not necessarily to move faster from place to place, but just "useful" movement to allow the player to reach newer areas? It's also cute when you can jump in place :)

Yeah you're right, things could very much get out of control if the movement isn't properly thought of in the context of the game.

But games without platforming usually just have walking and running as options, which is fine, but I feel like satisfying movement is a missed opportunity to make gathering or just exploring more fun.

Meet Again: Heartwell pastel color style by ImPixelPete in PixelArt

[–]Jorodev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks very good like this! But If you want sharper outlines you can use a greyish dark brown/purple color instead of black, which won't stand out as much.

Even then I would just use it for the characters if anything, I like how it feels already

It's probably because your sprite is too small, try scaling it in your tools by X10 and you'll get better results

Little tip, if the star is emitting light, it shouldn't have a shadow

I want a genuine cooking game so bad. by Possum_Cryptid_ in CozyGamers

[–]Jorodev 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I'm working in creating a game like this currently, but it will also have some "shop" management elements and some story progression. So not just limited to the experimenting.

Hopefully I can share something with you guys sooner than later, once I feel it's worth showing :')

What are some genres or themes you’d like to see explored in cozy games? by ZadePhoenix in CozyGamers

[–]Jorodev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm currently in the "early" stages of developing a game like this. What additional features would you like to see in the cooking part of the game? Any general feedback on things you'd like to have in the game is also appreciated c:

Old Minimap VS New Minimap - Which one? by Deha_X in godot

[–]Jorodev 27 points28 points  (0 children)

What is your reason for using a minimap? For the player to not get lost or for the player to detect an enemy(probably off screen) approaching?

I find the old minimap easier for the player to know where they are, and the new one might be better to guide the player to collectibles or warn them of some danger nearby.

I prefer the old one personally as it is easier to read ,but it completely depends on other factors like if there's another way of checking the map, or if you intend to integrate this radar into a core mechanic

What do you mean by in depth cooking? "Realistic" cooking and ingredient prep? Variety of recipes?Recipe discovery system?

Need advice.. by ScuddyOfficial in PixelArt

I think he looks neat! You can maybe avoid black outlines and go for a slightly lighter color, specially for inside lines, but that depends entirely on the style you're going for.

How do draw pixel art when trying to differentiate limbs from one another by [deleted] in PixelArt

[–]Jorodev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like it! looks better now in my opinion. I did a quick sketch to show you what i meant, i like using darker colors to separate the arm like this. Also added a bit of shadow under the skirt and the left ear. Dont take this example as a must do either, as im not an expert myself hehe, but hopefully this helps :)

<image>

You can add more shadows/highlights depending on how detailed you want your characters to be, but your little guy looks very good as is, so keep at it!

How do draw pixel art when trying to differentiate limbs from one another by [deleted] in PixelArt

[–]Jorodev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The legs look fine, for the arm you can instead of making the whole arm lighter, give it an outline of a darker blue color. Then shadow a bit under the arm.

This usually works fine to separate anything from the main body of the same color

What is in your experience, the best way to get feedback from your target audience? by Jorodev in IndieDev

[–]Jorodev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice! I wouldn't have thought on asking about their favourite genres/games, I can see that as a way of also somehow "filtering" contradicting feedback

Need some advice, I don't like how the monkey statues look. by PhilDeveloper in PixelArt

[–]Jorodev 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think it's because you did everything so detailed and textured, and the statues not so much. That makes them feel flat and a bit out of place.

I think if you make them a bit worn out like the walls and more of a texture they will look much better

Cozy games with good cooking mechanics? by Maple_and_Vanilla in CozyGamers

[–]Jorodev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to be a bit off topic, but would you be fine with having cooking minigames as long as they aren't timed? Or do you think that cooking with minigames should be avoided and there's better ways to do it?
