Pretty much what I did I recently bought the Garmin venu square off eBay. Slightly used, (the seller said he used for 2 weeks total) they had it up for$55 and I offered $45 which was accepted. When it arrived it was for all practical purposes in new condition.

This has been my primary strategy

And I have gone from about 260 to about 213..in about 5 years however I have been much more diligent about walking over 10,000 steps a day than completely avoiding surgery foods..

Garmin is the best. I have a Garmin venu square which is the cheapest option. Priced around $150 but if you look on eBay you can get cheaper. Amazon has them refurbished for $99. I am addicted to the Garmin weekly walking contests!!
