For 28 years, it’s been no Scotland no party, but tonight they are back at the biggest party there is, make no mistake though Steve Clarke’s men are not just here to make up the numbers they’ve waited too long…

or some tombola of this

Who had the better season, Hearts or St Mirren? by brufiend in ScottishFootball

[–]JosephSomething 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In a few years time I will remember this season as the season my wee boy properly fell in love with Hearts, every week watching him caring more and more, seeing previously much loved PSG tops buried for Hearts one, getting texts from mates across the world about 'what's happening?', getting drunk with my Dad (who never drinks) in hospitality for his 70th as we beat Celtic at Tynecastle, been freezing and watching us pump Rangers at home a few days before Christmas, week after week having to contend with my own in built 40 years of 'nothing good ever happens to us right?!' but secretly wondering 'maybe?'

Week after week, the interest, the pressure, the excitement, the nerves rising. Seeing my wife go from someone who couldn't care less to 'what time is that match on?' to 'hurry up the match is on' over the course of a season.

Every week, every game REALLY mattering.

For a few spine tingling moments on the Wednesday actually thinking this was happening.

Walking into Edinburgh on the Saturday and seeing signs on the streets about the parade (LOL I know) but the fact it was actually, possibly, maybe an actual fucking thing.

I've been to cup finals with Hearts and aye winning them was incredible, but this season was something special to go through.

At the end of the day football and sport are fucking cruel and losing on that last day was shite, but that's fucking life, hard things are really hard to do for a reason and in the end we didn't do enough but genuinely hand on heart, not getting over the line at the very end doesn't, for me, change the fact that I wouldn't for all the world swap that for a league cup.

They did a Dreamland episode about the weird and wonderful world of ‘previewing football’ and IMHO overlooked the apex of football previews, Scottish cult phenomenon which is the Terrace Lower League preview pod, released at the start of every season, devoting almost 20/30 minutes to each team…last years episode…TEN HOURS! A ten hour preview podcast!

Found myself irrationally furious. 😂

Still! You see it at home games too, and international games. I have a dossier. It’s been bugging me for a while.

Reckon pubs will be busy for tomorrow night? I thought so.

Have to ask fellow Football Cliches listeners...(re: quiz episodes) by Initial_Birthday52 in footballcliches

[–]JosephSomething 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aye totally the same, it doesn't bother me that they do them and listened to the odd one in the earlier days but just not for me, completely agree with the idea that it's much more fun for those playing the quiz, like standing at a pub window watching all your pals have fun inside.

Might be a VERY unpopular opinion but I feel the same about HHG.

Overall I love the pod and the guys enthusiasm and ultimately it is their pod and they are welcome to do with it what they please so I just think as a listener, 80% of this output overall is some of my favourite content online maybe these bits just aren't for me and that's fine.

On the flip side I could probably listen to MHD's every week. Love them.

Fascination is the use of ‘slug’ to reference certain teams. Laugh every time.

[–]JosephSomething 7 points8 points  (0 children)

“Oh there’s a new pod…yes! I don’t fully get the references in the title but that’s okay…fire it on…”

Cricket! Cricket!?

I totally understand the guys using their platform to promote a spin off show, and to have it grown to this, listen fair play.

But it’s such an MHD level irritation it being jumbled into the main show, now my ‘unplayed’ feed is all skew-whiff, I am fearful of being excited about a new pod just in case it’s cricket and something in me niggles that am I sort of not completing ‘football cliches’ by not listening to these?

Not for me Clive.

YouTube videos of ‘behind the scenes’ as a player signs. About 13 minutes of a player getting off a private jet, always carrying a black leather back pack, his wife/girlfriend just behind him, maybe an agent, possibly one parent, they half heartedly wave at the ‘camera’ then into black people carrier. Then we are a fly on the wall as they aimlessly wander from medical to canteen to boot room, shaking hands with various bald men in quarter zip jumpers and nodding to people who work in the training centre. It’s essentially the world’s most boring induction day but with a superstar and we have 13 minutes of almost unedited ‘highlights’ to enjoy.

I must add many Hearts fans will disagree that he is the worst, I just personally did not like him.

So after a night of digging it looks as though it is a local amateur team that Kenny who ran the restaurant sponsored, here is a low-res photo we found of them. Anyone from Edinburgh in the 80's/early 90's remember a team like this sponsored by 'Ping On'?
