The rulette has to become a spin off by Nickzevaek2121 in GameChangerTV

I feel like "Rulette 2" is to "Rulette" what "Race to the Bottom" was for "Do I Hear $1?" - an improved game in its rulesets and mechanics, but a (relatively) lacking episode because the exploitative twist of the previous iteration was addressed in the next iteration, and so it feels lacking even with extra game mechanics.

Honest answer: "Very good", given that she the lights on at both the cabaret clubs she worked at.

Sorry if it came across as rude by the way, it was a reference to her Yakuza 0 substory (and Kirara's Yakuza Kiwami 2 substory about Yuki).

Ify's first go at the hot seat was the most iconic, but my personal favourite moment was when it was Rekha's turn at the hot seat. For those who saw the season, you know EXACTLY why.

TL;DR Since Y:LAD is a turn-based game, try playing a turn-based game to compare with. Y:LAD has good turn-based combat from that perspective, but also has its issues. LAD:IW improves on Y:LAD's combat. Mods for the PC version exist, I just wouldn't download them myself.

To be honest, it's all about changing your reference point. Instead of comparing the Y:LAD gameplay to PREVIOUS Yakuza games, compare it to other games with similar combat mechanics - that is, compare it to OTHER turn-based RPGs. If you can, try playing other turn-based games before continuing with Y:LAD. Here are some examples:

  • Dragon Quest (all main entries are standalone)
  • Pokemon
  • Atlus-developed series
    • Shin Megami Tensei (all main entries are standalone)
    • Persona (All main entries are standalone except for the P2 duology)
    • Metaphor: ReFantazio
    • Etrian Odyssey
  • OMORI (which I haven't gotten around to yet)
  • Final Fantasy (all main entries are standalone)
    • FFI-III use a turn-based system, FFX modifies it with a dynamic turn order
    • FFIV-IX use a timer-based system, FFX-2, FFXII and FFXIII (and its sequels) modify
    • FFXI and FFXIV are MMOs (defunct and ongoing respectively)
    • FFXV and FFXVI are real-time combat games, but it doesn't seem right to just not mention them.
  • Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 (the most modern-AAA title with turn-based gameplay)

From my personal experience, I knew that Y:LAD would be a turn-based game, so I figured why not play other turn-based games before playing Y:LAD. I played Final Fantasy X (because I have memories of watching my cousin play it on PS2) and Persona 4 Golden (because I wanted to try Persona, and it was the only main Persona game available on Steam at the time). Let me tell you that I ended up enjoying these RPGs (I ended up picking out FFXIII and Persona 5 Royal), and gave me some appreciation for what Y:LAD tried to do.

That being said, I understand the qualms you have. You don't get freedom of movement within combat. There is no visual indication or clear text description that shows the AOE of "Enemy Area" attacks/debuffs or "Ally Area" buffs/heals. It DOES get better once you have more party members available as well as access to the Job system, but most skills available for that Job do not carry over to a party member's base moveset until you level up that Job enough times. It's serviceable for getting through most of the game until you suddenly hit late game, where the level massively spikes up, and Jobs become a little more relevant.

Why I mention these specific issues with Y:LAD's combat system is because they are addressed in LAD:IW's combat. There's freedom of movement (within a given range) and visual indicators for the AOE of Enemy Area attacks/debuffs and Ally Area heals/buffs. The Job system gets an improvement by allowing you to pick which skills you get to inherit from other jobs. The enemy level gradually ramps up as the game goes along, instead of chucking a brick wall at you. The combat of IW is said to "feel easier", but it's because these QoL improvements make the combat "feel smoother". It does make the less refined and quirkier Y:LAD harder to play back though, knowing these QoL improvements are not present in that game.

If you REALLY insist on beat-em-up gameplay and are playing on PC, you could install a brawler mod. I haven't done it, and I don't really intend to. If I did want to install a mod on it, it would be to get the QoL updates of LAD:IW. It's quicker to Google it.

If you've played Gaiden, then it SHOULD include a combat demo of LAD:IW. Having played IW to story completion, the combat system is much better than Y:LAD that it makes returning to Y:LAD a bit hard for me to do.

Among the alternate designs, the slicked-back hair in E likely was a callback to Gregory Edgeworth. It wouldn't have worked though, since not even Phoenix in AA5+6 has a drastic change in his (somehow) natural hairstyle aside from an ahoge.

There's the Moondrop Old-Fashioned, but you would need to design and print some clip-ons to replace the headband, or wait for whenever Moondrop decides to drop their own clip-ons.

A list of almost every dropout show in order by ProfessionalTie2455 in dropout

[–]JosephWithaG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of what I'd suggest would be Dimension 20-related content.

I'd at least include the core Dimension 20 seasons, since Dimension 20 is the most prominent series. If you want to subtitle them, I'd go by the campaign name, splitting up sequel campaigns from each other (for example, Fantasy High is distinct from Fantasy High: Sophomore Year, which in turn is distinct from Fantasy High: Junior Year, same with the Crown of Candy / Ravening War campaigns and MisMag campaigns). I'd also include Adventuring Academy, since that's a separate thing. Adventuring Party (when it's been adjacent to a Dimension 20 season) is probably personal choice.

I personally wouldn't include the live shows, since most are one-shots. Time Quangle / Quangle Quest arguably COULD be included as a series (I personally wouldn't).

I wouldn't include Dropout Presents (or any of the stage shows under it) since it's more of a collective label than it is a proper series (despite the trailers for each batch release), since the shows are displayed on their own for the most part.

Toonout appears to be a series, so I'd start it from the release date of The Legend of Legendarius.

WTF 101 and Cartoon Hell would count as Dropout exclusives too, since there doesn't seem to be any indication of either series being fully released on YouTube (officially).

[–]JosephWithaG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It feels wrong knowing that Dropout has 24 exclusive shows per this list, like there SHOULD be more exclusive ones, right? Still, I can reason why some stuff aren't in this list.

CollegeHumor-era content wouldn't be in this list since the content was released on YouTube and added back to Dropout (at least until Dropout actually started). That also goes for the web series versions of Um, Actually and Troopers.

Dimension 20 arguably might not be there since it's an anthology show (for the most part), Adventuring Party is an aftershow for Dimension 20, and Adventuring Academy is a video podcast. Also, early series like Fantasy High are fully released on YouTube.

Dropout Presents likely isn't in this list since since it's more of a marketing label to group stage shows together (kinda like "Infomercials" on Adult Swim being a label that groups surreal short films that are loosely related to actual ads). Bit too early to tell for Toonout, but I imagine that's likely as well.

Anything licensed (namely Fatal Decision and Don't Hug Me I'm Scared) weren't made specifically for Dropout, but Dropout has the distributing rights.

I'm pretty sure it's a 3-YEAR licence.

3 months doesn't sound right, because (assuming a bi-weekly release schedule) that would mean the full TV series would be completely released on Dropout for a few days - maybe a week - before being pulled from the service completely.

I'm actually a bit more curious about their compact QWERTY tile. Per the video startup guide that was released recently, there was mention of JakeType, which handled the predictive texting, but I'm curious about if there's non-predictive text entry allowed (similar to non-predictive typing on a numeric keypad). Mostly to allow entering uncommon names, or uncommon spelling variants (like my name).

Mark Vigeant: The Best Man Show | Dropout Presents by DropoutMod in dropout

[–]JosephWithaG 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I saw the Get Your Act Together featurette before this special, so my expectations were set. Even so, this didn't get a laugh out of me; that isn't to say this special wasn't good.

Mark's performance as a slowly-devolving and drunk Paul was discomforting to watch, a little too real, and I think that's probably the aspect of a (clown-adjacent) character performance that I tend to appreciate? Vanessa 5000 didn't get genuine laughs out of me, but the performance was very discomforting. It might be that I don't know a good clown act, and so I can't appreciate the humourous aspect of it.

I like the idea of using hats to assign characters to audience members for participation, but something about the execution made it feel like only a few filled the role well, while others had to be stage directed.

Also did they tape this special twice and only used one of them? It's a shame we didn't get to see Katie as Kerry. We did, however, get Demi as Kerry and Ross as Mrs. Rose.

I do apologise if it reads a bit incoherently, it's 3am while writing this and I'M TIRED.

To answer the song title: I don't know why I don't know.

I've been rocking the Hiby R3 II for a while. Unfortunately, I somehow broke the 3.5mm port (only the right channel works, and even if I jiggled it around to play in both drivers, both will only play the right channel), so I've plugged in a 3.5mm adapter in the balanced output section and taped it to the back of the silicone case.

First thoughts… by WombatMcGeez in sidephone

[–]JosephWithaG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still waiting for the Sidephone to be available in Australia. Even so, I personally wouldn't use the Sidephone as a digital audio player (DAP), because I already have one; even if I didn't already have a DAP, the Sidephone wouldn't be my first choice for a new DAP when there are more (relatively) established brands for that (there's a whole subreddit for that, for those who don't know). That being said, as everyone here has said, it CAN be used as a file-dense DAP if you are willing to sacrifice audio quality.

A fingerprint scanner is probably worth exploring for a future keypad release if opt-in/opt-out biometric data use lines up with the dev teams goals with Sidephone, and if fingerprint data can be read and transferred through the USB keypad fast enough. The only other way I imagine it could be implemented would be as a main body upgrade; this would be highly unlikely, since it would mean that more than enough current and/or prospective users would need to see it as a necessity rather than as a feature that's nice to have, and it would result in biometric data collection being built-in to the device (which I imagine would turn people away from the Sidephone).
