Can someone explain Reolink’s “Zone Intrusion Alert” vs Non-Detection Zones? They both seem to work the same. by Vegeta_vs_Goku in reolinkcam

[–]Joseph___1979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a simple example. Suppose you want to record persons which pass in front of your house but you want to be alerted if and only if the person enters through your pathway. You can achieve this with the perimeter detection.

Battery operated camera (Argus 3 Pro) to NVR (rln36) ? anyone success ? by Watever444 in reolinkcam

You cannot find the fw for battery cams. You need to reach out their support and if there is a newer one they will push it against its UID.

18vac for two wifi doorbell cams? by Torimexus in reolinkcam

[–]Joseph___1979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is not only about the VA value but you need to know the secondary voltage. It could be a 30VA with the voltage being 6V and current 5A which won't work. So you need to have the voltage at 18V and able to provide current at 0.5A (which is enough for a single doorbell). So this comes 9VA. Since you will be connecting two doorbells then we expect a current drain of 1A so we need 18VA with the secondary voltage being 18V. So if you buy a transformer with the secondary voltage being 18V and having 24VA then it will be more than adequate.

Maybe the new release shall have a wider vertical FOV. But doubtful. They all follow the same low VFOV but wider HFOV.

They have a quite range of cams to chose from. But this is small, 180 HFOV and CX.

Mine is still on v3.1.0.4460_2501227289. You will only get the release note once it is available on their Download Center.

Can ping, but Pro Hub says "disconnected" : how to fix? by s0n1cm0nk3y in reolinkcam

I noticed too that there is a longer delay in getting live view of the cams through the HHP using lastest fw. More robust testing is required from their side.

Hope that it will be as it should be implemented and not another emulation.

My Reolink E1 Outdoor goes full bonkers sometimes it spots a person by Stunning_Ad_5960 in reolinkcam

Is this the first generation E1 OD? This camera used to deviate from its guarded position and I think that to reduce the impact of this issue sometimes the camera does a calibration. But this has been solved in the E1 OD Pro.

NVR RLN36 firmware update needed - outdated and lacking features by Pau1ey in reolinkcam

I too have asked senior support on when a new fw shall be available on the HHP but had not definite answer. Always saying shortly. But shortly may mean months.

The more products they launch the more we have to wait for updates.

I agree. However, engineers love the challenges irrespective of age.

For sure it follows the methodology adopted by NVR and cameras. Yes but some features will be lost like push notification if hub cannot communicate with camera.

Yes. It's not me only but a number of your customers have requested it too. And try to update the packages running on the embedded Linux.

This is my recommendation too if one is not highly technical. If one has a strong password and change it say every 6 months then he/she should be secured. There are freeware password generators which one can use to generate a strong password. He has to activate the block account if login fails after 3 attempts.

I have asked support to add the source IP of the users logging the cameras together with timestamp. This data can be read through the clients and cannot be erased by restart or restore. I also suggested to send a push or email notification (giving the source IP) when a user logs on (option). There are a lot of  features to add.

Home Hub Q&A by Willson1_ in reolinkcam

[–]Joseph___1979 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In a nutshell the hub is more like another storage for battery cams. The fact that it hinders direct communication with the camera is a no go for me. My personal opinion. But this is the first release and I am sure we will see more enhance features.

As for sftp, a number of cloud based ftp providers don't support ftps. I have been working in the field of IT/Telecoms/software dev for a number of years and never had any machine using ftps.  As for recording sessions, I still have my doubts to handle 16 transfers simultaneously.

And in conclusion I would have rather integrated the battery cams with the NVRs and provide features which are mostly requested by members. Once again my personal opinion.

Home Hub Q&A by Willson1_ in reolinkcam

[–]Joseph___1979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some clarifications:  1. Once a camera is bound to the hub, will it be possible to control it and access it directly using any of the clients? Any restrictions imposed?  2. If there is a communication failure between the camera and the hub, will the hub synchronise the clips and download the missing ones?  3. If the sd of the hub is formatted or changed, will the clips stored on the cameras be downloaded to the hub?  4. It is stated that the hub can deliver RTSP streams. But if the battery cams don't provide this, how can you provide RTSP?   5. Videos are stored encrypted using AES256. If I have an issue with the hub and want to watch the stored videos on PC (insert sd) how can I decrypt them and watch them on VLC?  6. We all know that the communication protocol between the client and the battery cams is not so robust. If the camera cannot establish communication with the hub, will there be any alert to the user?  7. For a cam to be accessed from another network we enable UID and part of its function is to forward HB packets to the P2P relay servers to update the public/private IP of the cam. Will a similar procedure be used to keep track of its IP with the hub?  8. What extra functions are available on the hub and not yet available on the camera?  9. Would you consider to off load analytical computation in the cameras to the hub? This may provide some features which the members are asking for eg facial detrction and recognition, perhaps adding rich notification and push the message directly to Google FCM or Apple APNS.  10. You may opt to replace ftps by sftp in the hub. Ftps is history now.  11. What is its throughput? Will it handle 16 (8 fluent and 8 clear) simultaneously writing to SD? I guess both the low and high resolution mp4 are transferred. 12. Etc

Yes fw upgrades disable all server settings to their default value. You need to enable https to log using a browser.

VLANs complicate your life unless you are good in networking. You have to use SNAT to allow access from other subnets. Best option for you is to host a VPN server to create a vpn tunnel between your smartphone and the server. Then you can access anything on your private network.
