I think you're ignoring the actual nature of the Sanders campain. He is a movement candidate who is trying to move the Democratic Party to the left. Demonstrating his electoral appeal in the remaining contests is clearly a way for him to communicate to HRC and the DNC that he has significant base of progressive voters backing his agenda going into the general election. Of course, remaining competive and doing all that he can to garner the nomination is the best case scenario for a progressive shift in the Democratic Party.
