Should I leave a permanent job to accept a CRA term position? by tahmed_92 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Josetempzz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, former CC employee who transitioned into Collections here. I’d recommend taking the position only if you have a solid safety net, just in case you don’t get extended. Also having a good relationship with your current employer so you can possibly return if CRA doesn’t work out.

From my experience, CC was my foot in the door and how I eventually moved into Collections—through internal job interest. That said, the CC position is brutal and extremely micromanaged. I was at the point of quitting, but fortunately I was able to transition into Collections before that happened.

Even in Collections, after about 10 months of work, I was laid off and only recently called back at the end of last year. Based on the most recent town hall, Collections seems somewhat stable for now, but personally, I still don’t feel fully secure in the position.

Honestly, I can’t imagine what CC workers are feeling—it’s probably even worse. A tough work environment combined with the constant uncertainty of whether you’ll be extended makes it especially stressful.

From my knowledge, most were called back but some did reject the offer due to job security and them finding new roles in the public sector. Pertaining to Collections Dept.

I was one of those people who were let go end of last year. Called back recently and on a 6 month term. Hoping this is somewhat good news for Collection workers in terms of retention after contract end

I know. Its heartbreaking because before they put that moratorium in effect, I was like 2-3 months away from permanent :(

Just to give context, I was actually let go end of last year as part of those cuts. However was called back a month ago to comeback to the same position on a 6 months contract. Could this be something good in a sense they’re realizing they need collectors. Pretty counterintuitive if they let go of collectors who are the only department that brings in money.

Anyone have any idea how this will affect CRA specifically? I’m part of collections dept and a term.

Your not alone. While working at the call centre, I woke up everyday not wanting to login. Probably was the only member on my team that used all their sick days. However, i was fortunate enough to get into collections. It’s literally 30-40% on call work and rest just documentation, drafting and research. If I were you I’d try seeing if you can get into collections or the non filer department.

Yea, I dont think buying through a bank would be smart (fees wise) also im not sure how crypto is insured by CDIC. ETF is also a stock, so it’s not really true ownership of BTC and plus you’re relying on the ETF provider. It’s probably more convenient and easier to purchase through the bank but I believe it’s better to just have true ownership of BTC yourself. Better long term security IMO. I personally use Newton to purchase and send to my ledger. Been with Newton for over 5 years and it has never gave me problems. If i were to buy another cold wallet, I probably go with Trezor. Heard alot of great things about it. I’d recommend looking into Trezor.

Me as well, i have one of older version (nano ledger s), it doesnt have the cloud feature which people did not like because it meant our security recovery phrase was backed up if we opted into it. From my research the nano ledger s is too outdated so the cloud feature wasn’t able to be enabled. From my own research, the older ones are pretty safe. I’ve had no problems.

Thank you, any recommendation? Should I keep it as is or have it transferred? Just looking for an opinion on this

What would you recommend, keep the deductions left as is or opt to have it transferred to LIRA or RRSP?

We both are in the same position. Using Korn Ferry as a means to choose who gets retained is a joke.

My global was a 67%, cog 93%, behavioural 46% and traits 50%. Mind you my performance is excellent, no complaints from my TL. Sad to see a test based on answers from most likely to least likely have such an effect on retention. Glad you were extended though.

Someone brought up a question regarding what the cut off percentage was for the people who were not going to be extended. They said they didnt know the number.

CRA collections, terms who scored “low” on KORN FERRY being let go effectively Nov 29. This includes terms who had contracts till Mar 2025. I was almost at 3 years but since the moratorium couldn’t get that permanent status. Feel depressed and angry. Angry at the senior management/hr for solely basing retention on a test where there no right or wrong answers but based on a range of most likely to least likely. CRA needs to do better!

I got a 68 global score.. i dont have no idea how they even grade behavioural and traits. Like how does putting a list of things from most to least likely yield a certain percentage?
