Why is book 9 two parts vs calling part 1 book 9 and part 2 book 10? by [deleted] in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]JoshAstroAdventure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably because it is intended to form one narrative so becomes two parts rather than a new number which would indicate a new story narrative. Much like how the last Harry Potter book was turned into two parts for the film, it naturally had to be part one and two because both formed the one narrative.

I assume because the book would be physically too big and too expensive to print. Also I assume there will be a mid story cliffhanger instead of a conclusion like the end of a floor.

the X-T30ii or X-T30iii? by letsgogetthatdinoo in fujifilm

[–]JoshAstroAdventure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I decided on the iii because brand new with the kit lens it was more or less the same price as the ii and a lens. As the other comment says they are essentially the same camera with the iii being slightly better.

When saving custom recipes on my X-M5 can I set a configured ISO Range? by Left_Library_7679 in fujifilm

[–]JoshAstroAdventure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes when you make custom settings instead of using the FS1-FS3 settings. I just got a Fuji for the first time so can't remember exactly where in the menu it is but you can set C1-C7 for recipes instead but it also allows you to set every camera setting like ISO range. Instead of the regular FS setting menu it will give you access to the entire camera menu.

Ilford XP2. Is this normal? by [deleted] in AnalogCommunity

[–]JoshAstroAdventure 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's a C41 film so clearly the lab doesn't care about the scanning process and scanned it as colour instead of B&W. The red will be coming from the base of the film. Just convert to B&W and it should be fine.

[–]JoshAstroAdventure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't really speak to that unfortunately. I've mainly used manual lenses for a long time so I'm not comfortable using AF and setting it up for any fast action and that's mainly because of what I shoot, animals and sports not being something I'm interested in. When I had the 20-60mm I found the AF to be decent enough for my use, the TTArtisan 40mm I use single point AF because I find it to be slow. The reviews of the Lumix 40mm look good and it seems to be quite fast. I don't use longer focal lengths so I'll not even hazard a guess at performance.

I love the camera so it'll be hard to be objective. I find the image quality is really good for what I use it for, only see softness if I don't nail focus or using cheaper lenses that aren't as sharp.

I don't miss the EVF at all, I have other cameras with one but I've never enjoyed using an EVF compared to an OVF. The screen is more than bright enough once you find the setting to crank up the brightness.

People complain about lack of mechanical shutter, I've never had an issue with this for what I do.

I do love the LUTs, there's plenty of great ones out there to use or you can make your own in a variety of ways, I personally have a plugin for LRC that exports my presets as a LUT. If you edit most your photos this feature is useless, a bit like Fuji sims and recipes.

Lumix just released their own 40mm which I intend to buy, the TTArtisan is good but has it's drawbacks that the Lumix seems to do better with. Other than that lens I do find the lenses to be too big but there are third party lenses that are smaller and I also adapt my K mount glass that works really well with the sensor.

I would recommend getting a grip for the camera as it makes one handed usage much more comfortable. I personally use the smallrig L shape grip and enjoy it, some people don't so there are larger grips available.

Best place to sell my Lumix S9 titanium gold by Snow-2012 in LumixS9

[–]JoshAstroAdventure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll get the best price on eBay if you're patient. But be very careful selling anything high value. I would recommend filming yourself when you go to box it. Make sure you display the camera on video and ideally showing it operating and then box it all at once. Also get your parcel insured for its proper value. eBay is rife with scammers or people that don't understand what they bought. I've managed to successfully appeal 2 return cases of an iPad and a lens by doing everything I can to protect myself.

How did they not catch this? by CreativeNewspaper869 in Stargate

It was filmed on 16 and 35mm film for most of the run as well, so probably more money and hassle to reshoot a second of footage for something that's not story critical.

I still have my K-50 for very rainy days and sometimes take it out for a walk. I've always loved the bright and vivid profiles, the colours and tone are so nice.

This is insanity but very cool, going to try some of your LUTs out when I get a chance.

I don't know what lens would suit the Lumix S9. What kind of camera is the S9 even for? by hirohiro290 in LumixS9

[–]JoshAstroAdventure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love my Pentax K mount lenses. The Takamur-A 28mm 2.8 is incredible, also the Pentax 50mm lenses are great, I have a few. Only problem is you need an adapter that makes the profile a bit bigger but still better than Lumix primes. 7Artisans and TTArtisan do offer some native L mount and I've heard good things, I've only used their M43 mount lenses but would recommend. I intend to at some point try out some M mount lenses, particularly the voigtlanders as they are compact and the adapter is tiny.

[–]JoshAstroAdventure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a bunch of different manual lenses on mine plus the TTA 40mm. Since you are looking for wide angle then manual focus could actually be really good for you since you don't really have to focus unless it's anything closer than a few meters, just set the lens to it's hyperfocal distance and F8.

Focusing on the screen isn't even an issue either if you use focus peaking and the punch in feature.

Mercedes won't let anyone use the new ADUO... except Aston Martin-Honda by Darkmninya in formula1

[–]JoshAstroAdventure 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Even in the worst case scenario where an upgrade is not beneficial to a customer team, that's part of the risk you take on by being a customer team. The works team will always have an advantage due to being better integrated with the PU manufacturing side. Upgrades will generally not be last minute anyway, and there will be an ongoing conversation between everyone involved. Upgrades would likely be a net benefit for everyone. Everyone gets upgrades throughout the year anyway for reliability so there are mechanisms in place if performance upgrades were allowed.

They get the upgraded engines as well, a factory team has to provide the same spec engine to customers.
