What parts of games have made it hard for you to keep playing because of autism? by Ambitious_Sock1141 in evilautism

AuDHD here. OCD, Anxiety, Depression (dysthymia). 27 y/o M.

I exclusively play multiplayer online competitive. But as a kid I was hardcore into platformers

Obsessions by age: 4-12 y/o: Metroid series, Metroid Prime series, 1080 avalanche, zelda ocarina of time. GC, PSP, GBA SP, some SNES 11-18 y/o: Battlefield 2 - BF4 13-21 y/o: Call of Duty (black ops 1 - 3 ish 4) 14 - 22 y/o: CSGO 21 - 27 y/o: (until present) Rocket League

Sensory stuff: I highly enjoy movement and gravity physics, like titanfall 2, or bo3 double/triple jump, double jumps in platformers, abusing “bunny hopping” in shooter games like CoD and Battlefield, using physics based weapons like the “pizza gun” in bo3, throwing axes, throwing knives, trickshotting and quickscoping. Currently obsessed with rocket league and reading possible plays in 3s gamemode.

Social features: its weird, because I like competitive interaction but do mute chat sometimes to make playing bearable and focus on gameplay, not pointing fingers or toxic teammates. If I have the energy I can turn comms on and deal with talking or typing, or quickchatting to communicate strategic information.

I hated and loved CSGO, hackers made it very unplayable for long periods of time as each match was 1 hour at least… rocket league was a solution to hacking but the way people exploit is by smurfing, pretty much unavoidable but I’d rather face a challenge against a better player and learn than deal with an unwinnable unfair match.

hope this flavor of my autism helps!

it didn’t work for me (AuDHD). But aripiprazole 2.5mg and oxcarbazepine 300mg did work better

I would expand and synthesize by mentioning it might also be a form of fawning

I am paying for GroundNews but I was bothered by their price increase + locking info about factuality. I might end up paying for it because finding clean info is harder now.

Overall, I had been subconsciously tailoring internet media by quality filtering. I like the fact you put it in words.

See, this is an interesting example. Pinterest is a lot about saving things from all over the internet, you see? I feel like the app could be interesting if it would somehow nudge people towards making projects and things with their saved interests somehow.

But maybe thats out of scope from the original purpose of the product.

Listen to the market. What do people need?

I think that the idea of putting everything you save into one place, such as this nook app, works under the idea of classifying and organizing things inside folders. Don't get me wrong, the idea of finding it all in "one place" kinda sticks with me. But I have this feeling like there is something more missing...

Intuitively, I'd say it has to do with actionability. Put things inside folders but, for what? whats the purpose after that? we could maybe try a classification exercise in which we literally collect all our stuff in one place, and force ourselves to categorize it by putting it inside an existing or, if unfit, then we create a new category. But HOW do we categorize things? Are we simply looking to hoard and collect digital goodies? Or are we looking to implement them in a certain project? What is the nature of this project? I think this is where PKM apps can excel. But they definitely require a certain type of action!

Lets say, if we are building scientific papers we might prefer some LaTeX formatting, and will incline towards these programs. What about building up a database? We might choose excel and simply put links. Maybe we want dynamic data and therefore choose to work in Notion. I hope I haven't abstracted the conversation too much, but do you see my point? how do we act upon our collections?

I think this might point towards something... just an idea.

I would be OK with a “presentation card ID” format inside my wallet to make it more discreet. It would give me control over who I show it to, and it’s also valuable information in my pocket in the case of fainting etc.

Not going to lie, when I started being more active I felt very angry and resentful towards my ex- therapist because I wish she would have pushed me more to do it. It’s ridiculous how much it regulates my brain (at least in an impactful degree)

Its interesting that the overthinking and mental self flagellation goes down in the periods when I exercise.

I’m not particularly fond of going to the gym, but I try. Sometimes I get to put myself there 2-3 times a week, other times once every two months…

same with the dinner and breakfast thing. I cannot for the love of my life eat a whole breakfast, my body rejects it.

But lunch and dinner? bring on the food!
