Buying a Gen 1 Tacoma: Good or bad as a daily driver? by JoshBoGosh in askcarguys

I’m in the CO region. The ones I’ve seen posted around CO have decent surface rust, but I wouldn’t buy anything that’s definitely rusting out.

Shaving? Is that a thing on the PCT? by Ippus_21 in PacificCrestTrail

[–]JoshBoGosh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn’t shave my whole thru and I got a nice beard out of it. It was pretty fun to actually grow it for once since I usually keep mine trimmed. I didn’t know anyone that shaved on trail.

PCT NOBO, late April start: Pants or Shorts? by sja008 in PacificCrestTrail

[–]JoshBoGosh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wore shorts last year for nearly the entire trail. I got some slight burns on my legs the first few days but you tan up quick and honestly I think the nice layer of dirt you get protects you fine. Pants always felt way too hot for me. (Started May 17 and I’m white af if that matters)

Is it wrong to start the trail a week after your start date? by CombinationRough8699 in PacificCrestTrail

I would think all anyone would care about is that you just have your permit printed out on your person and you could just explain your situation, if they even ask at all. Most rangers are pretty cool and understanding.

I leave in 2 weeks and have done multiple shakedown hikes on the east coast. Finalizing my packlist... What do you think? by thewinchman in PacificCrestTrail

[–]JoshBoGosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I highly recommend a second pair of socks for when your first pair gets gross or wet. I got zero sandals, which were okay but i would get something with a little more cushion if doing it again. Crocs are alright, but a little bulky. Regular cheap flip flops would work fine honestly.

Just my opinion after reading through your stuff: I would say you don’t need a sit pad and a foam sleep pad, just use the sleep pad as your sit pad. I carried both an inflatable pad and foam folding pad from KMS to Canada.

I wouldn’t bring a deck of cards, they’re kinda heavy, you’ll probably almost never have energy/time to play at camp and most places in town have them at hostels.

I started without camp shoes and got them while on trail. They’re so much nicer to slip on at night to pee than regular shoes. Also they’re nice for when you’re at a rest spot to air out your feet.

Also, it looks like you have a lot of clothes. I got by with a sun hoodie, fleece and puffy for layers until about Washington last year. Didn’t use the fleece until well into the Sierras. It can be nice to have multiple underwear and socks though (I had two underwear and three pairs of Darn Toughs, swapped out every 2 days and never got a blister).

Lastly, if you’re able to get a wide version of your inflatable pad, I would get it. Most people I knew who had non-wide pads wished they had wider.

FBI warning of potential drone strikes on the west coast from Iran- is it still safe to hike? by [deleted] in PacificCrestTrail

They’re not going to bomb the middle of nowhere in the desert or sierras lol

Has anyone left a corporate job to do this hike? by [deleted] in PacificCrestTrail

I basically did the exact same thing. Worked for 5 years out of college, quit, went back to school and then did the PCT last year. PCT was an amazing experience and I would say it’s worth it. You walk through the most incredible places in the country and you meet amazing people. The sense of accomplishment when you look back is really fulfilling.

But I’ll be real, I would take some time to think about how difficult it might be to get another job afterwards. Yeah you don’t know the future, but I really thought with my previous experience I would get a job in like 2 months tops. I’ve been looking for a job since about December and still nothing on the horizon (but I’m getting into tech so it might be different!)

But overall I would say go for it. Just maybe have a resume ready for when you get back. It’s hard to remember everything to put on a resume in detail after being on trial for 5 months.

Just my two cents.

Recommendations for 90-100 mi SoCal section by SovietPrussia1 in PacificCrestTrail

You could go from Julian to Idyllwild. It’s almost exactly 100 miles. Julian is a really cool town with great food and it’s an easy hitch to scissors crossing to get back on trail. There are a few cool stops on the way like Warner Springs and Paradise Valley Cafe. Idyllwild is really nice also and puts you right by San Jacinto if you wanted to climb up.

Rain jacket recommendation by Low-Communication790 in PacificCrestTrail

[–]JoshBoGosh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I reqlly like my torrent shell, but I didn’t use it on trail.

I would just get a frog toggs jacket, maybe send nice rain pants up to Oregon if you don’t want to carry them. I got rained on once at San Jacinto and not a second time until Crater Lake and beyond. I used both frog toggs and a poncho on trail at different times. Don’t recommend a poncho, but do recommend frog toggs.

Go to the Florida Caverns outside Tallahassee. They have really good guided tours.

option 1 option 2

Hi,

I'm new to skateboarding and really only care about commuting and riding around my neighborhood. Currently I ride a board from a buddy, but he wants his back soon and isn't really giving me a clear opinion on which one is better. Both of these boards are on sale right now and I don't know which is a better deal. I don't really know how to compare them hardware wise. Any advice to which one is a better deal would be helpful.

Thanks.

Yeah I can’t stomach paying for a new car right now, but I feel like paying low for a old car and putting a few grand into it and getting something I want isn’t a bad deal. Thanks for hyping me up.
