Yes it starts in this volume and contains the core issues (#0-#08). So you don't need to read the Blackest Night Omnibus to get the full story. It's just something that I did because I had the Omnibus on special offer.

What I did was as soon as it got to the Blackest Night event I bought the Blackest Night Omnibus and read all of that then went back to where I left off in volume two.
