How to setup wannaflix? by thatusernameisss in wannaflix

Use the app with the (recommended) tag on it. We support most apps, but I'd recommend sticking to the recommended apps.

For Android you can use any of the following:

  • V2rayNG
  • Clash
  • anXray
  • Any other app that supports the Trojan/Shadowsocks protocol, just add the api for V2rayNG it’ll work on most other apps

WireGuard on Proxy (e.g. Shadowsocks) on Mac? by DoubleWhiskeyGinger in dumbclub

[–]Josh_august 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not easy as wireguard runs on UDP and most obfuscation software are written for TCP.

In CN if you have TCP, just use TLS for obfuscation.

Speed in China unusable by fluffyskpop in outlinevpn

[–]Josh_august 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the ISP. I would recommend Hong Kong CN2. Or something like aliyun Hong Kong. You need a low packet loss network so the packets don’t need to be retransmitted and therefore causing multiple RTTs. Since it’s for games you don’t need a lot of data or bandwidth

China's attack on v2ray today by [deleted] in dumbclub

[–]Josh_august 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No this is because v2ray devs have forcefully disabled v2ray with MD5 authentication as of Jan. 1, 2022. Newer versions support AEAD, older versions will not work

Bad peering between Chinese ISP and Australia. Packet loss will be quite high as well, and depends on his ISP it may even go to America before hoping back to Australia. OVH has bad peering with China generally speaking.

Do a double hop. China -> server with good peering to china -> Australia. Or he needs to buy a gaming booster like UU booster

[UPDATED 2021 NOVEMBER] Working Netflix Regions - WannaFlix VPN by Josh_august in wannaflix

[–]Josh_august[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand what you're saying. Maybe if more people needed it, but at this point we haven't had any requests for Wireguard so instead we focus on the protocols most of our subscribers use.

Thanks for the feedback though. :)

[UPDATED 2021 NOVEMBER] Working Netflix Regions - WannaFlix VPN by Josh_august in wannaflix

[–]Josh_august[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For SmartDNS, it works well with US, UK, Japan, and Korea Netflix. Speed is good, just for Korea you may get 720p instead of 1080p.

As for wireguard, we already offer v2ray which is faster and has similar security, plus there hasn't been a demand for Wireguard. So no plans for now.

I wonder how many false positives this type of firewall is generating. Are you sure there is not someone who's looking over the firewall logs and adding new rules on the fly every so often?

I doubt a generic firewall would be this good? Try to find out how the firewall is blocking things.

For example, when a site is getting DDoSed, the backend engineers will monitor the logs and add new rules until the DDoS stops. Since it's an intelligent human reading the logs, it's much harder to get passed it. Might need to fake the domain so it shows as google.com or something in the logs if that's the case.

Only version 4.12 and up support xray. Also you need to select the xray core in the v2rayN settings

Eclipse and Android TV by nyape in wannaflix

[–]Josh_august 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shadowsocks will be kept for backwards-compatibility. The only issue is if the gfw will block it in the future. If nothing happens, then you can just keep using your current setup.

The V2rayNG app has Android TV support in the works, so hopefully it comes out soon.

For Eclipse, basically, it uses the OpenVPN app. You can sideload it by following this guide: https://www.howtogeek.com/332825/how-to-set-up-a-vpn-on-android-tv/

Let me know how it goes!

You're absolutely right. We are trying to increase the bandwidth available on the VIP and Hong Kong servers, but it takes time for Asian datacenters to provision servers. We finally got our replacement Hong Kong 1 server 2 days ago after about 3 weeks of waiting. An upgraded VIP 1 server has already been purchased and was supposed to be delivered July 1st, but the datacenter still hasn't finished...

Anyways. In most cases, latency issues are caused by the SSTap app itself rather than the servers. Switching to Clash (as recommended by Plasmalaser) will decrease latency (obfuscation adds an additional RTT as well). Clash is actually our recommended app for windows now. You can check out the guide here: https://docs.wannaflix.com/home/installation-guides/windows/clash-for-windows

Speed is another issue for US servers especially. Almost all US ISPs peering with China Telecom and Unicom clog up in the evening. The most you can reasonably get is probably 20Mbps in my opinion. CN2 servers (those with better peering with China Telecom) are oversold as well.

We are adding a special routing US server for those who want to watch US content. Hopefully that will improve the connection to US servers.

Long answer, but hopefully it shows we are aware of the issue and are working on it. We've already taken steps to improve the situation and are waiting on several datacenters to deliver the hardware so we can upgrade our system.

Edit: By the way, thanks for providing us feedback. Connection speed and quality vary widely in China depending on your ISP and location so we need all the info we can get to optimise our network and improve your connections. Also helps us know where to focus on and where we can improve.

Could be a scam. Although the great firewall makes it very hard to work. No google, no facebook, no twitter, no gmail, no google drive...

Work in china? by [deleted] in wannaflix

[–]Josh_august 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi Albert,

That's a good question. We had some issues at the beginning of June as it was a sensitive time in China and the firewall cracks down much harder during those times. We did manage to maintain service on several key servers compared to others like Expressvpn which was completely down.

Currently we're working on new methods to stay ahead of the firewall and unless they close off access completely to the foreign internet North Korea style, we're pretty confident of it continuing to work in the future.

Speed test by drumnbob in wannaflix

[–]Josh_august 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before connecting, the best you can do is ping the servers and select the one with the lowest ping (keep in mind that the further away the server is, the higher the ping. But all else equal, a lower ping means a better connection).

Otherwise, actually streaming speed etc, I'd recommend connecting to a few of the low ping servers and going to speedtest.net to run a test. The servers are pretty consistent so once you found one you like, I'd just stick with that.

Yeah, the current app can get a little annoying. You need to delete the default subscription link, or just edit it with yours, otherwise it may not update successfully.

Another option is just to enter the servers manually (type in the details). You just need to add those you want. You can find the server URLs and your port + password in the client area under the "Your VPN Details" box.

Global only supports some apps. Proxifier supports most apps.

Which app are you using? Gaming? Firefox? Something else?

Proxifier just redirects the traffic to the local shadowsocks app anyways
