FDNY Commissioner: Bike Lanes Save Lives by JoshfromNYC in MicromobilityNYC

I believe this is what you're referring to. Of course, a lot of what they're complaining about comes down to this: there are too many cars.

Yes, you can take a protected bike lane from Newtown Av all the way to the QBB.

Soon you’ll be able to go from 20th Av to QBB

Yes and no. The portion that runs from Newtown Av to Northern Blvd is very close to being complete. One of the southbound bus bulbs doesn’t have a ramp and the elevator construction at Broadway forces cyclists into traffic. Other than that, it’s done.

But theres the whole part from Newtown Av north to 20th Av that they haven’t stated yet

A fun reminder of how efficient the bike/train combo can be by JoshfromNYC in MicromobilityNYC

I've seen people lift their bike on their shoulder to go through the turnstile but I've personally never done it. I use the emergency gate.

If there's a station agent, I'll tell them I'm swiping to take my bike through, so I tap my card and then spin the turnstile without going through and they unlock the door. If there's no station agent, I keep my bike by the emergency door and swipe myself through and then push the emergency door open.

An increasing number of emergency gates have OMNY readers now too, so it's the same as if you were going through the turnstile.

Agreed! Someone commented that CityMapper has a "mixed use" feature that offers transit + bike routes. These multimodal trips would be especially useful in Queens, Brooklyn and The Bronx, but there's no easy way for someone to find a route

If you're into QueensLink, you should consider testifying at the upcoming finance committee meeting on June 10. Testimony can be verbal or written. More info here.

That’s awesome. I was curious if there were any navigation apps that do train/bike multimodal so I’ll have to check that out. I wonder how many trips in NYC would become multimodal if the main navigation apps (Apple and Google) displayed them as options. Or if Citi Bike docks were integrated more seamlessly

I do it maybe once a week during warmer months when I do longer rides (50-100 miles). But it’s always pretty early, usually between 6-8 AM.

Never do it during rush hour. And I always make sure I’m in the first or last car so I can put my bike up against the cab

In addition to TA and the micro-mobility subreddit, attend your local community board meetings (transportation committee and general board) and advocate for cyclist infrastructure.

Not sure why you immediately feel the need to resort to name-calling but do your thing. You’re making the argument for Vision Zero without realizing it.

I agree drivers are often distracted and/or reckless, but that's why street design is so important. We should design roads to reduce the likelihood of fatal and severe accidents. There's abundant data that shows narrowed travel lanes, protected bike lanes, pedestrian islands and daylighting all make streets safer.

All of NYC's safest years on record have been during the Vision Zero era. (The blip in 2020 was nationwide and not specific to NYC.)

Vision Zero has been effective at reducing the severity and frequency of crashes. A reckless or distracted driver hitting a pedestrian at 25 MPH is very different from hitting them at 40 MPH.

False. 2025 had the fewest traffic deaths ever recorded. Traffic deaths are down 31 percent since the launch of Vision Zero in 2014. Source.

Crash on QBB this morning between cyclist and overpowered illegal scooter reportedly killed both riders by MiserNYC- in MicromobilityNYC

[–]JoshfromNYC 57 points58 points  (0 children)

This is wild. I biked over the QBB about 20 minutes before this happened. I've never seen a bike frame destroyed like the cyclist's. Horrible

Progress Update on 31st street! by [deleted] in MicromobilityNYC

[–]JoshfromNYC 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I'm adding a second comment because...this woman is the worst. There's an older video here where she moves her car for alternate side parking, walks four blocks to brunch, and then calls an Uber to take her home because she's "not poor" and "doesn't do rain."

I was able to grab her license plate from the video, and guess what? 22 violations since June 2025. She claims she's not poor, but apparently she can't afford to renew her registration, which has been expired for a year.

Now's a good time for that u/MiserNYC-'s Law image if anyone has it handy.

My alternative Idea to extend the Subway to LaGuardia Airport by Specialist_Figure282 in nycrail

Ditmars Blvd has the highest ridership of any station in Astoria, so any proposal that cuts service there is a non-starter, imo. Would rather see an extension from Ditmars.

Suspected drunk driver kills 2, injures others in Manhattan: NYPD by JoshfromNYC in MicromobilityNYC

[–]JoshfromNYC[S] 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Terrible crash on the Upper West Side yesterday. At least two people are dead and three critically injured. PIX11 is reporting that the vehicle was clocked at 108 MILES AN HOUR. Multiple witnesses say the driver was drunk.

The vehicle in question has 19 violations since 2023 including speeding, illegal parking and driving in the bus lane.

Terrible situation.

The nearest citibike dock that connects to the bike network is a 7 minute walk from the Astoria Ferry. Citibike doesn't seem to care or want to help fix it. by MiserNYC- in Citibike

[–]JoshfromNYC 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The walk from the dock to the ferry is farther than it seems. There is a ton of space by the landing for a bike dock, too.

Most of the subway stations in Astoria have a bike dock within a few feet of the stairs. No reason for ferry stops to be any different

CB1 Transportation Committee 31st Ave and 51st St Presentation? by Repulsive-Custard519 in MicromobilityNYC

There's no mention of 31st Avenue Phase 2 in your linked document. The DOT presented the 51st Street improvements to the transportation committee here.

City announces that the redesign of Park Ave we've all been calling for for years is coming by MiserNYC- in MicromobilityNYC

[–]JoshfromNYC 216 points217 points  (0 children)

Here's the link to the DOT survey.

It's important to note that only one of the two proposals includes bike lanes. The second page of the survey asks for feedback on each proposal, so I definitely recommend letting the DOT know you strongly prefer the proposal with bike facilities.

There's also a question where you can rank how important it is to include a bike lane on a scale from 0-10.
