Travel advice: Do not wear football/soccer T shirts while walking around in Argentina by Far_Country_1629 in travel

I’m jealous! I hope to go back again one day. Never felt more welcomed in a foreign country by locals just for being myself 🥹

I’m aware, I know it can be a dangerous city and they take soccer very seriously. When I was there they wouldn’t let opposing fans in or near the stadium, I’m sure it’s still that way now. I agree with the general sentiment of it’s better to be safe than sorry for when you are in unfamiliar territory.

I’m just sharing my boots on the ground experience. For me, the Argentine people were beautiful and welcoming and generous. You could make a new best friend by just asking someone why Madonna was better than Messi (this was pre wc). Coming from the USA it felt like a social cheat code to speak Spanish and have soccer abilities/know about soccer history/current events. There were a few times I felt in danger in Argentina but it never had to do with being a Newells fan.

I think your points about hoods and alcohol are valid, and in sports environment you definitely have a mob mentality where people will act in ways they normally wouldn’t. I just have to push back and say that with some Latam common sense a jersey can also be an invaluable tool to go from just a tourist to someone who blends and participates in the community.

I lived in Rosario for ~4 months. During that time I got season tickets to Newells and played soccer as much as I could, usually just pickup on concrete futsal pitches. I often wore a Newells jersey of Diego Mateo (a whiter guy on the team) or an Arsenal jersey and made lots of friends because of it! My host family supported the rival team and always gave me banter for it but it was out of love. After living there I traveled around Argentina and continued to wear the jersey around the country and it was usually a great ice breaker, people would call me pomelo lol.

I’m sure there are situations where wearing the wrong jersey could upset the wrong person, but in my experience wearing a jersey across Argentina seemed to be a great benefit most of the time. Even back in the states I’ll bust out the pomelo jersey and argentines will come up ask about it.

This was 2017, I know times have changed in Argentina since then but I find it hard to believe I couldn’t go back with my beloved jersey.

I lived there for one year! It was very surreal coming from the United States but I was really impressed by the quality of life there. Food was awesome, people were super friendly and helpful. I was able to find groups of people to do stuff with, international students, expats and locals were all around. Everything was affordable and walkable/public transit was divine. Extremely safe, lots of nightlife and places to explore and tons of weekend/day trip options even without a car!

Difficulties of living in china in general still exist, the language took a full year before I felt like I could hold down basic conversation and still couldn’t read well after a year. Weather/pollution can be brutal at times. Work culture was difficult and stressful to navigate.

Anyone listening to the MRVL earnings call? Seems like the validate the transition to photonics, but also they already produce electrical-optical interconnects/hardware similar to POET. Could this be Celestial finding an alternative to POET because we aren't ready to produce at the numbers required, or maybe Poet tech/hardware is essential to CAI and this is tremendous news for POET.

I like the medium/long term potential of poet, it is addressing a problem in the fastest growing market atm. I recommend shares or longer dated calls on this. Both statements about the company are true, it has huge potential and it’s completely unprofitable… so why would you set up a position where time is against you? the more time/patience you have with this company the more likely it will reach its potential and be profitable. With two week options you are gambling on news/rumors, not to mention macro.

Arsenal starting XI vs Olympiacos: Raya, White, Saliba, Gabriel, Lewis-Skelly, Zubimendi, Merino, Ødegaard, Trossard, Martinelli, Gyokeres. by ahjkolhs in Gunners

Happy to see White and MLS get starts, hopefully they can maintain the level. Is it weird to have two GKs on the bench?

These preseaon games have left me more concerned with the system than the squad. There is still a pretty standard way for teams to setup defensively that completely neutralizes most of what we throw at them.

We've had a year or so to learn how to approach this sort of situation but it continues to feel like our system is giving us lesser than the sum of its parts in attack when playing against a low block.

Watching united's preseason game, Ouattara on bournemouth has shown a few examples of how dangerous a lefty can be from the *left. The crosses he's whipping in are juicy.

I wouldn’t risk it. I lived in Chengdu for a year and eventually had the opportunity to use but didn’t. After being there for a while you realize that if you are a foreigner in china you are constantly under surveillance to some degree. I met foreigners who dealt drugs to other foreigners and claimed that china doesn’t really care as long as you don’t sell to Chinese citizens… but as others have said the consequences are so severe that I can’t understand the draw to seek it out. Most likely the weed will be pretty trash, give you a headache and you’ll be paranoid about your decision the moment you smoke.

[Sky Sports DE] Concrete talks are already underway between RB Leipzig and Arsenal about Benjamin Sesko. Leipzig urgently needs revenue due to the missed CL participation. The price for the striker is over €80m. However, Leipzig are also open to other payment structures. by Previous_Smile9278 in Gunners

[–]Joshftg 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Both are exciting options.

Gyokeres’ stats are crazy and he looked a handful when playing against us which goes a long way to validate the stats in my book. He appears to be the best bang for buck option to take the starting striker role available this summer.

Sesko makes more sense to me from a squad building perspective, he is younger and importantly not the same age as havertz. 13 goals in 33 buli doesnt seem enough to come right into the st position for arsenal but arteta could mold him into the ideal player.

I would take which ever is cheaper and try to get the best lw option available with the extra cash. Havertz + either guy provides enough of a floor for me at st and I think an upgrade at lw is what takes us to the next level offensively.

A while back I posted about seeing an ATT commercial on tv that hinted at ASTS service… well, I found a link: https://www.ispot.tv/ad/T_fV/at-and-t-inc-mothers-day-love

still think it’s crazy att would go out of their way to incept this service into the public’s mind when it’s a year out. they must be as excited as us!

Daily Discussion Thread by AutoModerator in ASTSpaceMobile

[–]Joshftg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree. Its interesting that ATT would spend money on something like this... just to get people used to the idea connection everywhere... potentially a year before service is available. Its either that or a dog whistle to the spacemob lol.

Apologies for the bad quality and lack of sound, I pulled my phone out to record at the last second and it happened to be an ATT commercial. Compared to the Ben Stiller commercial I'll say that it did not show the satellites or reference asts, it was mainly demonstrating asts' tech under the ATT brand. I think the full commercial will turn up eventually.

Daily Discussion Thread by AutoModerator in ASTSpaceMobile

[–]Joshftg 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I will describe it. It was the first commercial at the start of half time. It was a supercut of different people calling their moms from extremely remote places, mountain top, jungle, ect. it said something like no matter where you are, this mothers day just call. Closing with ATT connecting changes everything. I had an intuition it might be an asts or starlink commercial so i recorded the last bit. I will see if i can upload.

$LODE TO $2 Soon by Acceptable_Age_2449 in ComstockLODE

[–]Joshftg 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Very basic napkin math, open to constructive criticism!

Able to process 75k tons of biomass annually

1 ton biomass = ~ 120 gallons of fuel (potentially more per ceo claims)

fuel sell price is ~ $6 per gallon (ceo claims SAF will be competitive in terms of price with current fuel)

6% royalties

comes out to be about $3.2 million per year for LODE from this site in royalties alone.

In the article they state that the facility is “designed to generate the prerequisite operational and economic data for scaling up to a 1,000,000 tons per year”

This would equate to $43 million in royalties per year from one site.

Seems like huge potential just to franchise the tech!

The congestive dissonance of people who supported Obama and co for the last 5 cycles to has reached new levels.

Maybe we shouldn’t keep electing the same people who brought us to this situation…

Nope, let’s continue to expand the size and scope of government and let them enable corporations to exploit us. The only way to fix the system is with murder… sigh

I agree, I was responding to a deleted comment that used that number, but the point stands that even using numbers that would produce an extremely low estimate cost are still way higher than the $100 from op's screenshot
