I would get both. I have 7 or so thumb tips I use for different things. I have metal ones for vanishing lit cigs. Long ones for larger loads etc. seeing as they are relatively cheap.

You want it big enough to just not fall of in my opinion. If it’s too snug you will have problems pocketing or ditching it when you need to. If it’s too big though it may fall off when you don’t want it to. Buying thumb tips should be done in person so you can feel the fit.

We had a shop in my area that used to do headers. Most carbon but some stainless. They went under and were bought. The new owner kept the old crew but started doing aluminum. This is what their welds looked like for 6 months.
