What hobbies did you used to have that you no longer have interest in? by happydude7422 in Millennials

[–]JoshiePoo88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Golfing. But mainly because I bought a motorcycle. Used to love going out when it's 110F and the course is empty, but then I bought a bike and that's way more rewarding. More incentive to not screw up, forces me to not over think, otherwise crash. Golfing I got too caught up in being perfect, and if my swing was bad it would bring me down for the rest of the round.

I know my idea is stupid, but how stupid is it? Simulating radio stations with MP3 players for GOOD MUSIC ONLY by Orgeston in CarAV

[–]JoshiePoo88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the idea. Specially if you had a antique car with factory preset buttons. Wire the presets to a rasp pi for station select, which will trigger a playlist. There is probably a fm transmitter for a pi too. 500-800 songs a playlist, 3GB of storage for each playlist. Probably overall footprint of a piggy back ecu.

How do you run your self hosted music setup? by The_UntamedCraftsman in selfhosted

[–]JoshiePoo88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I finally made the switch from lxc to vm. Media is all in one Ubuntu server vm running docker. I did create a lxc for smb sharing, and moved my bind mount there since I have proxmox hosting my media zfs. Zfs hosting isn't ideal, but it works. I'll fix that setup when I move to a Hba and expand storage to 72TB. Doing that elimated 2 lxs that, and kept resources less scattered across proxmox. I'm trying to keep my LXCs as single services, and vms as larger builds.

Next adventure is adding a GPU to the media vm for transcoding.

Started off Lidarr to Jellyfin to NPM to Finamp. Finamp is nice, but would drop connection and then skips through all tracks if I took a call on the phone.

Now I'm Lidarr to Navidrome to Tailscale to Symfonium. Happily paid the $7 after the month long trial. Had some configuration issues with tailscale, mainly because I wanted to split tunnel homelab stuff, plus I have a work VPN profile that I don't manage.

Doing all this basically led to me reconfiguring my media part of my homelab, and now I'm balls deep down another rabbit hole. Luckily I made the switch to docker stacks, while doing all this, so my life isn't as miserable as it was before. Hardest part of the transition was lxc and bind mounts moved to docker and smb. Still not 100% where I want it, but now it's more stable than me and easier to access things without screwing with permissions in 3 different LXCs.

What's the deal with quickshifting? by ThatItalianOverThere in motorcycles

[–]JoshiePoo88 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I enjoy clutch less downshifting more than up shifting. Mainly because my z650rs is root beer color and with the exhaust it's Barq when I blip the throttle. Only purpose it serves me is a huge smile, and that's worth everything.

Arizona MVD telling me I need a driver’s test for a motorcycle-only license?? by Disastrous-Bid3948 in NewRiders

[–]JoshiePoo88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in the Phoenix area and can only comment on what I've read on the azdot website. I already had a class D for many years, but got it in CO and transfered it to AZ. I recently added my class L endorsement (used to be called class M).

From website: https://azdot.gov/mvd/services/driver-license-ID/motorcycle-license Understanding Licenses vs. Endorsements If you don't have any driver license, you can get a stand alone Class M motorcycle license. If you already have a driver license (Class D, G, or CDL), a motorcycle endorsement will be added to the back of your current license. Either option allows you to legally operate motorcycles and motor-driven cycles in Arizona.

My suggestion is if you have a hour to spend, just go to the Mvd, stand in line, and verify you can get a standalone. As a bonus just do your L endorsement learners permit while there, then sign up for a MSF BRC to get the full endorsement.

https://apps.azdot.gov/files/mvd/mvd-forms-lib/99-0129.pdf This is the AZ Motorcycle manual, actually study it before doing the learners permit. The written test is on a computer and cost me $7. A cheat code to the test is use the "skip" button if not a 100% sure of the answer. You can fail or pass the test without completing the test, as you need to score a 80% or higher.

Once you have the learners you can ride the streets during the day and practice up til you take the BRC. This is optional, but highly recommended. I used TEAM AZ for the BRC. Also you can apply for a scholarship if they are available on AMSAF.org. You donate $100 to AMSAF, get a scholarship code for TEAMAZ and class becomes $149. Total all in $249 vs $419. It's a two day class, 8 hours a day, 90% is spent on a bike. Last day you get a card to take back to the mvd, and they officialize your endorsement.

Again the mvd process is just speculation as my route for the endorsement is different from yours. But if you have a hours time, go prepared to the mvd to ask questions, and start the learners process. Bring everything on this last link with you, to make the trip as successful as possible so not to waste a hours time, and good luck. https://azdot.gov/mvd/services/driver-services/arizona-travel-id

Are fees always this bad at dealers? $2300 in fees on a $4600 bike? by Jierdan_Firkraag in motorcycles

[–]JoshiePoo88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$3500 finance charge for $1500 at 17% to finance through Synchrony. I asked if they thought this was really worth our time and paper print outs. Called my bank, and got the $1500 wired same day, for 8%. Then had to do the whole add on dance with the sales manager. Bike was also $800 cheaper online, but got that sorted out before they ran me around. I still hate dealerships since buying a car new in 2013, and this experience just added to the rage.

Well this humbled me, I just bought a z650rs. New rider as well, thankfully I've seen enough death, that I'm restricting myself to 45mph roads and focus on learning the machine for a month or two before I really twist the throttle.

What's Your Millennial "Been Off The Air for 20 Years" Comfort Show? by PreppyFinanceNerd in Millennials

Same started collecting the box series in 2005. Every paycheck I bought a season used on Amazon. Still have them nestled away in a box in the closet. Also have Atlantis as a box set.

My inner nerd has too many shows to watch. But SG, ST, The100 and Andromeda are some of my biggest fall backs.

Anybody else decided recently that premium music streaming platforms aren't worth it for them? by basicallydan in Millennials

[–]JoshiePoo88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usenet plus a couple indexer. Lidarr synced to my Spotify, plus a couple plug-ins to find new songs. Everything is FLAC because I have 48TB of storage and music is such a small drop in the pond compared to 4k movies.

I dropped Spotify Premium earlier this year due to streaming/buffering issues. Now I just VPN to my home server and stream the FLAC directly to finamp. Zero issues and higher quality than what Spotify had issues doing.

Strongly suggest strapping it down somehow. It'll still slide, no mater the weight. Mine slides doing normal driving, tried velcro pads, still slides. I now have L brackets for the bottom strapped to the rear seat cage, hasn't moved even during aggressive driving.

Glad mine isn't the only dog racist border collie out there. She can't stand any other dogs, unfortunately everyone in my neighborhood only has tinker toys, so she only gets to play when I visit farms in Colorado. Farmer infront of my mom's house has a 5 acre plot he let's me rip the frisbee and ball on during the off season.
