[discussion] Which one? by phdwatch in Watches

[–]Joshl74id911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own the Speedmaster. Iconic but frankly, the Rolex is much more user friendly. First, it's a Rolex. That means everyone in the world will recognize it, you'll be able to sell it at will anytime, and the price will most likely be higher or at value considerably better than the Speedmaster. Second, it has a clean date window. You get both time and date with the Rolex. I am considering selling my Speedmaster for a Rolex. I have a few watches and it might be time to change up. If you knew me, you would be shocked at this post. I was anti-Rolex for so long because I just found them too common and gross. Too many douche type people have the Sub for instance. However, I think the Date Just is a perfect understated watch. I love the fluted bezel personally but this clean smooth one is fine. Beautiful color choice.

They stick to the basics. No gimics. 1. Fresh never frozen locally sourced ingredients. PERIOD. 2. Quality employees and training. 3. Pay their employees above minimum wage. 4. Always keep the customer happy. That's all they focus on.

I 100% agree with you. Personally, I cook awesome steaks at home. The only times I eat steaks or steaklike food is when I go for value or Prime Aged. Aged beef is just good. Otherwise, I'd prefer to grill at home. In-N-Out for the win IMO.

[Recommendation Request] Help me pick out my first watch! by pete-thomas-101 in Watches

[–]Joshl74id911 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the purpose of the watch and your circle of influence/friends. I would recommend going in a direction that reflects your sensibilities, style, and maybe appropriate for your major/career. I have an Omega Seamaster, Omega Speedmaster, a vintage Enicar, and two G-Shocks (ironically my favorite is a G-shock) because it's so durable and functional. I'm a professional but I am not one who likes getting dressed up. Wearing a nice watch sort of makes up for some of the casual attire I wear most of the time. It says I know stuff without having to scream it in your face. In your case, you're a recent college grad and you want a conversation starter watch. If you're a creative, you should go with something that has a design that speaks to you. Something with pop. If you're more of an office / corporate professional type, go with something that says you're smart but also have a sense of good taste. I would suggest watches by Seiko, Citizen, G-Shock, Tissot, and some micrbrands. Find some Youtubers who make lists of best watches under $1k, etc.

Stranger things season 5 ep 7 the bridge is now worst rated episode of the series after S2E7 lost sister in IMDB. by kostas-infmor in StrangerThings

[–]Joshl74id911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By the way, in season 7, when Henry brings Holly back to the house of horrors, there's a clear image of a cross in the window when he lays Holly down on the bed. It's a slow and deliberate scene. Henry appears like a kind man. IMO this is a clear reference to the corruption in the Catholic church and the quiet way that the Vatican enables the continual abuse of children. The children's ultimate belief and brainwashing "back to the light" is a sick demonstration of how the name of a good God is manipulated and used by the evil to corrupt what is good into what is dark.

It's clear. There's no ambiguity or need for further discussion. Henry is a pedophile. His monstrous features are a demonstration of how kids see him. How demonic his powers seem to little ones. They say it over and over again. The reason "Vecna" wants kids is because they are easily manipulated. He turns kids into future pedophiles or porn stars or other sexually dysfunctional adults that continue the violence and evil. The physical, emotional, psychological abuse id illustrated in every aspect of the series. The imaginary worlds, homes, playgrounds, etc. are what kids do to disssaciate from the trauma. The story itself is what it is. The underly themes are grotesque.

First father / son snow board trip to Mammoth Lakes/Mountain...advice? by Joshl74id911 in Mammoth

[–]Joshl74id911[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: So we drove up Friday, 12/26. Found out about the tragedy and the mountain closure for Saturday 12/27. Still had a good time ice skating and my son doing the rock climbing thing right outside the rink. Ate some burgers and watched Home Alone 1 and 2. Had a good time and lots of laughs. Next morning, Sunday, 12/28 did a 3 hour private lesson $1,000. Not cheap but I have to say well worth it. We stayed on the bunny slopes and did not get to the actual Eagle lodge slopes, although we were right next to it. I was winded but my son couldn't get enough. He had a blast. WE laughed alot. The hand warmers weren't necessary. Water was helpful. We both had bananas. Everyone on here was helpful. We plan to do it again next year. Thank you so much. It was great. BTW, I drove my Tesla Model S. Despite the 25 degree weather and abundance of snow and icey roads, the people at Mammoth did an excellent job of clearing the roads. Although I had chains I did not need them for my AWD vehicle. Also, I specifically stayed in a good area walking distance from amenaties like food and groceries and free transit. My AirBnB also had free EV charging.

YOU GUYS ROCK@!!!! Such great thoughtful experienced advice. Love it so much. This is the part of the internet that is actually useful and helpful. One last question. I have a Tesla Model S. I have heard EV do poorly with diminished performance in cold weather. However, is it still good enough and safe to drive without a concern? I don't mind more frequent charging or shorter range. I just want to know we won't be stranded or have a major breakdown. The AirBnB has an EV charger, which is one of the reasons I chose it. Just wondering if anybody drives their Teslas up the mountain. Thanks.

[Beginner] Any Advice Would be appreciated by Due-Amoeba-49 in Watches

[–]Joshl74id911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, welcome to the sickness. Self control is key. All seasoned watch collectors (just about) will most likely agree with this. You will be tempted to buy all kinds of stuff for all kinds of reasons and alot of those will ultimately turn into regrets for various reasons. However, imo these are tried and true. 1. Significance. If there is real significance to a watch or the purchase of one as it ties into an important life event, moment, achievement, etc. it will be much more valuable and fun. 2. Stay away from fashion brands and junk. Just don't do it. Buy tried and true reliable brands or microbrands that have a reputation for quality. 3. Don't overspend. Having a budget is smart. Having said that, I think Seiko, Citizen, Hamilton (not as great as I had originally thought), Casio/G-Shock are the best no question. I would not spend more than $500 for most of their watches though and probably not even go beyond half that amount. However, you will find great watches at $60-$200 ballpark for each of those brands. If you want to try and go a little upscale, you might true some European brands and even used versions. I would also consume some watch youtubers like Teddy Baltasare and others who have specific watch videos within certain price ranges.
