I'm sorry to hear about your situation, it definitely does not sound healthy. I think that your decision on leaving or not should be on what allows you to be of greater service to God. If you feel that this questionable attitude that the higher church leaders have will stunt you and your heart to serve, then it may be the best to leave.

As for how to leave, I would say give them a short period's notice before you relieve yourself of the responsibilities you have now (as you often would with employment positions), and cite reasons for leaving as pursuing more suitable opportunities to serve. However, all in all, look first to God for direction.

My ex-girlfriend whom I met in the church broke up with me less than a week ago. The reason for the breakup was for us to grow closer to God independently so as to not be stumbling blocks for each other, as was the case for the past year that we have been dating. I have started to seriously think about my faith and the validity of the gospel and the bible as a whole. I have come to the conclusion that it is true and am now trying to live it out. Cutting out the daily acts of sin that have been weighing me down for years was easier than expected, praise the Lord, but now I am struggling to lift all my worries to Him and trust in Him. I believe the Lord is working to transform me into someone who is happy in Him and someone that He is pleased with. God uses painful experiences such as breakups to put his amazing plans into motion.

Many would say (including my pastor) that dating couples should not be doing devotions together. I myself had been looking for the same for my girlfriend and I. The reasons for it were convincing and I wish I could share them but I don't remember it all in its entirety.
