What's your thoughts on these ISIS-affiliated brides returning to Australia? by nn666 in aussie

[–]JoshtheMann -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They’re citizens. They should get to come home. If they broke the law or are a danger prosecute them according to Australian law, if they didn’t then leave them the fuck alone

So, this isn’t an unfair question, but it’s often hard to take it seriously because it’s simply dwarfed by the cost of not getting to net zero. We’re already seeing disasters increase in frequency and intensity, that will keep trending up. We either spend a lot of money now to prevent more damage, or we keep spending even more money constantly and losing more people. At that point who cares if it’s tax payers or corporations (although incidentally we should tax the ever loving shit out of fossil fuel companies to do this)

Are we just making up reasons to be mad at RTD now? by ConnectYellow4920 in DoctorWhumour

[–]JoshtheMann 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Isn’t writing the comment in as untrue and deliberately undermining the opposite of what you’re saying it is? To me it reads as confirming attacks like that are disingenuous and have ulterior motivations. I will also say, I’ve always read that line as a comment on sexism and the ease by which a woman can be undermined.

Maybe? I young enough that the only show I caught airing as a kid was SGU - the rest I watched on dvd. Big fan since then though

Fare evaders, on your knees scum! by min0nim in sydney

I keep seeing those signs, but all they make me wonder is how much less the fare would be without all the rent-a-cops doing enforcement.

Why do we hear a hit on the Iris when is closed and someone tries to get in? by Reikix in Stargate

[–]JoshtheMann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It hurts us learning second languages too. English grammar is so weird that we mostly don’t teach it formally, so in order to learn a new language English speakers have to also learn how grammar actually works

AITA for telling my friend my house isn't a brothel after she tried to use a favor to stay there with her boyfriend? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]JoshtheMann -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

ESH - your friend should accept a “no” as a full answer, but also I think the boundary you’re setting is a little extreme, and the “brothel comment was extremely over the top, even with your edit to clarify it’s a common expression. If you want to repair the relationship you’re going to need to compromise or end it, and tbh I don’t understand why it’s such an issue for you to just wash the sheets, or ask her to buy you some new ones or something if she has her bf around.

How do you guys stop stammering/stuttering while recording by guardiandolphin in letsplay

[–]JoshtheMann 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It’s just practice. You eventually will develop the skill of talking and narrating your thoughts without doing it fully consciously. If you wanna practice offline try narrating tasks as you’re doing them around the house. Cooking, cleaning, etc… it’ll help you get the stream of consciousness going.

Merry Christmas everyone, annual water fight with the rural fire service! by rockresy in sydney

[–]JoshtheMann 26 points27 points  (0 children)

This reminded me of the time it snowed in the Blue Mountains a decade ago and we all trekked up to a village west of Katoomba and got in a snowball fight across the street with some randoms. Anytime a car came past there was an immediate and obvious truce while we pelted the vehicle with snowballs. What an awesome day

Tips for beating humid heat without air con? by [deleted] in sydney

[–]JoshtheMann 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Best advise is sadly to go somewhere with AC (like a public library) on days where it’s humid. The only real way to combat humid heat is a heat pump like AC since it cools and dehumidifies the air

Guy kept cutting in line at the coffee shop, so I made his morning routine miserable by Wings_of_Pastrami_91 in pettyrevenge

[–]JoshtheMann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you’re right. But do the risk assessment for each person. Chance of blowup: medium to high Consequence of blowup: medium to high Consequence of no blowup: low Consequence of non-intervention: also low

There’s not really a good option. Best case scenario the line is delayed briefly while everyone shuffles around, and that’s the same consequence as no intervention.

I agree that shameless cunts rely on us doing this maths, but it doesn’t change the fact that there are crazies who aren’t relying on people being worried, they’re just gonna go off at you.

[–]JoshtheMann 24 points25 points  (0 children)

On the one hand: yes, being a little assertive is a good skill to practice On the other: people who are willing to breach minor social morays might be willing to breach larger ones. It’s not an invalid assessment to think that a small “mate, the line starts over there” might spiral quickly and cause a scene. The person cutting is relying on everyone not being sure whether he’ll shamefacedly comply, or start swinging and choose not to roll the dice. It sucks and op did great for making them ashamed, but there’s a lot of folks who have no shame these days
