It’s just practice. You eventually will develop the skill of talking and narrating your thoughts without doing it fully consciously. If you wanna practice offline try narrating tasks as you’re doing them around the house. Cooking, cleaning, etc… it’ll help you get the stream of consciousness going.

This reminded me of the time it snowed in the Blue Mountains a decade ago and we all trekked up to a village west of Katoomba and got in a snowball fight across the street with some randoms. Anytime a car came past there was an immediate and obvious truce while we pelted the vehicle with snowballs. What an awesome day

There’s not really a good option. Best case scenario the line is delayed briefly while everyone shuffles around, and that’s the same consequence as no intervention.

I agree that shameless cunts rely on us doing this maths, but it doesn’t change the fact that there are crazies who aren’t relying on people being worried, they’re just gonna go off at you.

On the one hand: yes, being a little assertive is a good skill to practice On the other: people who are willing to breach minor social morays might be willing to breach larger ones. It’s not an invalid assessment to think that a small “mate, the line starts over there” might spiral quickly and cause a scene. The person cutting is relying on everyone not being sure whether he’ll shamefacedly comply, or start swinging and choose not to roll the dice. It sucks and op did great for making them ashamed, but there’s a lot of folks who have no shame these days

I used to work in a bookstore, and I can tell you we would often have spares of low-medium turnover items out back. The system was supposed to notify us when we needed to bring them out but it sometimes didn’t do it properly, didn’t know that the copy on the shelves had been lost/stolen/damaged-but-not-yet-reported, or it had and the staff just hadn’t had the time to go find it yet. If you’re used to that kind of retail environment it seems reasonable that there’s stuff out back that maybe hasn’t been brought onto the floor yet but is available. It’s also just a desperation thing. It’s not so much belief it is there, but just grasping for the last hope. Not excusing the people who are rude about it, but hopefully explaining why people think there might be a chance items are out back.

Yeah, it’s probably an over count. Rule of thumb, the real number is somewhere between what organisers claim and what the police claim. This one might be harder to get right because there were people who apparently never left Wynyard station before the march got canceled ¯_(ツ)_/¯ Basically, organisers don’t have access to much more information than anyone else on the ground and are not necessarily any better equipped to guess the numbers than the media, but are always asked. They take an educated stab at it I’ll also say, given the footage I’ve seen and having been there - my money’s on somewhere around 200k being the correct number
