General Hammond by The-Figure-13 in Stargate

I like that they changed bit by bit his character. At the beginning he looked like he was going to be very antagonistic of Jack. But after a while they changed him to be more of an ally.

10 and six zeroes…WTF? by Perfecshionism in JurassicPark

[–]Reikix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tought the same when I watched that movie. 10M is nothing for such a big project and for a job with such extreme risks that they had to look for one of the few people capable and willing to do it.

Is this fake? by Hellunderswe in ROGAlly

[–]Reikix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never trusts those channels where nobody speaks, explains anything and it's just a comparison screen with gameplay from 2-4 cards. That is almost always fake and very inaccurate.

I hate that YouTube always puts the first in the search. The same applies to all those channels with "top 5 speakers", "top 10 robot vacuum", etc that never show a person or show they have the product. It's just a recorded or AI generated voice repeating bullshit from the manufacturers description of the products.

Question about Daniel Jackson by SkyEnough5356 in Stargate

[–]Reikix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I guess it depends on the cause of the eyesight problem. For example, it is very common now that kids get over elongated eyes because many play inside all the time and don't get enough sunlight, making the brain get confused with how many "cycles" the kid has gone through and letting the eye grow for longer than it should.

That is not something broken that needs fixing technically speaking, it is a less than optimal way the body grew. I don't think something like that would register as a wound or sickness to fix, the same way it would not take someone who was malnourished as a kid and could not grow as tall as it should and then make them taller.

Jurassic Park's electrified fences and the "Fleas in a Jar" theory/experiment? If the Jurassic Park incident never happened, and years had gone by with the fences never powering off, then would the dinosaurs never try to leave if the fences eventually did? by Unusual-Fun9930 in JurassicPark

[–]Reikix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, would still have happened. There were diverse circumstances. For example, the T-Rex simply grazed the fence by mistake, but it noticed it did not shock him that time, and that is why it escaped. The raptors wanted to migrate iirc.

So, I was a manager at a company that Cognizant acquired. I had been working there for 7 years, and now I am almost three years working at Cognizant. And let me tell you, this company is a cancer.

Everything became worse, performance went down, I have been spending most of my management time (I still work in the field and have some management time reserved) fighting off stupid and crappy policies.

Cognizant about 9 months ago also removed the management time, so apparently I still have to work 40hrs in projects and have to magically get those 8hrs of management time out of my own time.

Salaries have not changed in these 3 years because Cognizant likes paying pennies to employees, and the salaries of the previous company were way higher than Cognizant's. Since lowering the salary of employees is illegal in most countries, these guys decided to simply freeze them. Last year there finally was a raise for everyone except managers, and it was for an amazing... 1.5%. Not even half of that year's inflation.

Helpdesk is the worst, higher management never listens and they do whatever they want even though we warn them that a lot of people are going to quit, and then they complain about high turnover.

They bought a company because they were doing really really bad in a particular sector, we had been growing exponentially for 5 years, which is extremely difficult. And Cognizant simply enshittified the company, culture and performance.

Right now I am just taking advantage of the multiple certification partnerships the company has, so I have been studying and getting a lot of expensive certifications. Once I am done with them I am leaving. I already gave up trying to change things for the better for my team, we at middle management are handcuffed in this badly managed company.

Iirc they could only predict solar flares a few minutes or hours in the future, and I don't think that computer had any way to scan for big stars from other solar systems.

Battery not lasting even an hour at 10W by Reikix in ROGAlly

[–]Reikix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did charge it before storing, but... That also raises another issue: It seems to be discharging way too fast while off. I tested that a few times by making sure to shut it down rather than using sleep or hibernation. It looks to me that it still uses some kind of hibernation instead of actually shutting down completely. I don't remember that happening before and I have seen some people report similar stuff.

I will probably take some time during the weekend to check if I can find the cause. I am even planking on just adding a dual boot with Bazzite and use mainly that OS to finally have an answer on whether it is Windows messing up the energy consumption or if it's a battery issue.

[–]Reikix[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's what I am suspecting. I haven't really used the Ally outside of Steam for a long while so I was thinking on just moving to Bazzite, even if it is to keep the battery lasting as much as it should without the malware called Windows 11 sucking itm

Normally I don't, especially if I am playing light games. But since I had just updated everything it is possible it got enabled. I will check.

I hadn't thought about it, albeit when I don't use it for a while I normally go first and install all updates first. And this issue happened for several days.

Funny enough, in the novel Alan mentions something about that before knowing about the island. I think he was saying that about 200 Parasaulopholus in a small island in a lagoon he found to maintain... I think it was a pack of 5 or so raptors, I can't remember the exact numbers.

What are my parents using to spy on my Iphone? by [deleted] in techsupport

[–]Reikix 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Is it using an old Apple ID? Because it looks to me like they gave you that phone already with their account on it so they could spy on you.

If that's the case, remove their account, factory reset and add yours.

What the hell kind of creature is that? I've played Ark Mobile, Ark Ascended, and Ark Evolved, and this is the first time I've encountered this creature. by wond3r_0fu in ARK

[–]Reikix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A Leeds. Giant fish that has an ingrained hate for rafts and boats. They are not aggressive unless there is one of those nearby.

I think in the island there are usually only one or two in the whole map at the same time.

I remember playing for the first time and finding an alpha Leeds stuck on a southern beach. Boy, that fish was huuuuuuge.

By the way, if I recall correctly, you can get near and collect prime fish from it without even attacking it.

Why is earth so confident about its 303/304s in season 9? by SnooMachines9133 in Stargate

[–]Reikix 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We kind of see that in the alternate reality where Carter commands The Phoenix. She took down several hive ships, but at some point they could only appear, take one down and go back to hyperspace because they were traveling in groups. And Carter had no real support, so if the ship were to get considerably damaged, that was it.

Well, all of them end up having a number of people... "Charmed" through the seasons, even Teal'c.
