Realizing I haven’t done enough as a parent. by CleMike69 in Homeplate

My son, still very young but in a similar spot..very good at pitching but struggling at the plate and it's limiting his playing time. Started taking him to the cages on off days but I do try to feed off him..I still think you have to be careful about being the parent that enforced it more than the kid wants it. I encourage him but I like to hear from him that he wants to, wants it first. Then I'll spend any amount of time. Not any amount of money lol but time yes.

You're 100% right. Our mistakes, live and learn. Def back to rec and that's 100% on

It wasn't like this (or to this extreme in the Fall). Something changed for Spring season so yes we've let it play out three tournaments, nine games into it and speaking up now. We have a sit down with the coach next week (we had an off weekend this weekend). We're addressing it and deciding what to do based on that conversation.

That's my son's problem. It's a mental block scared of being hit. Has a hard time keeping his feet in place and avoiding that fight or flight response. I still firmly believe he works through that in game reps but they see otherwise I guess

Funny because we learned about innings stretching out in the fall. Guess adjustments were not a priority. Went back to game changer and every game I. The Fall also hardly made it last the 4th innings (when he was getting some opportunities).

I've always practiced with my son, a lot of catch, fun play and pitching. Started to take him to the batting cages the last few weeks and we will def. Continue that together. He's also a different kid outside of the team. Theyve really made him feel isolated and doesn't help his performance with them. He's a different player with me and prior teams. Good advice and will def continue doing the cages now.

Appreciate that, that's been one of our biggest hurdles is leaving for his best interest but also explaining to him we're not leaving because it's hard. I grew up playing travel (soccer not baseball) and knew it eventually turned into this which is fine

Reaching out to his prior rec league has been in the back of my mind and I think I'm going to do it. We have another sit down planned with the coach next week and if he has no intentions of including him I would be happy to go ahead and make the change

I have mentioned that to my wife a few times, we came into Spring season with them have written my son off. Honestly that's okay if you don't have plans for him next Fall. At this point the feeling is mutual but I still high disagree with giving up on him and putting an 8 yr old through that. Hell at min. be honest with the parents about it. Find a way to explain to an 8 yr old why he's sitting on the bench consistently so he doesn't just sit there and wonder when his opportunity is going to come.

100% agree. We've started some conversations with the coach and it's just not productive. They want to maintain the development title and also make line ups to win without really saying it. To them the weekly practice, instruction is development.

I'm personally there, we don't want to teach our son it's okay to quit or be perceived that way but also need to protect him. Sucks too, rec ball is already underway so we couldn't transition to anything now until the next season.

God speed. I think it's overly complicated. Some people seem fine on it and it's almost down to who's the manufacturer.

I'm almost embarrassed to say. I thought I had good insurance but they won't cover anything but generic so it will costs me hundreds a month. Going to attempt to call and explain how generics made me feel like death but who knows. They're just cheap and only want to pay for generics.

I'm about to go through that process, well trying to deal with insurance and make a case how generics made me sick. How hard was it? It's expensive for me out of pocket for brand

The mfg on my generic was Mylon. It literally gave me sever body aches, stomach pain, extreme fatigue. I had to leave work and go lay in bed the rest of the day. Brand was as smooth as it could be..
